Trial of the forest: part 3
3rd person POV:
With several spirits chasing after them, the class ran through the forest as fast as they could.
Paya: I thought spirits were usually peaceful, why are they chasing us?
Yn: They think we're invaders that kidnapped their king, I think...
Kora: Where did you get that from?
Yn: They said it!
Gerald: You understood them?
Yn:?
Hana: Now's not the time for a conversation!
Turning around, Hana spun her glaive in the air before hitting a spirit that had pounced towards her. Knocking it away, she took the lead.
Hana: I believe I've memorized our path back to the village. Follow me!
Gerald: I'd prefer something more concrete than "I believe" but fine, lead the way. The rest of us will cover you.
Doing their best to travel through the forest, Yn and Gerald used their range abilities to keep the spirits at a distance, Kora and Paya fought mid-range, while Vina protected Hana from anything that got in close-range.
It worked at first, but with how slowly they were moving through the forest, more spirits were coming than the students could knock away.
Vina: Can someone talk (hic) to them?
Kora: Yn, your up!
Yn: R-right...!
Yn: We come in peace!
Spirits: Lies!
Paya: What did they say?
Yn: They don't believe me.
Hana:!?
Vina:!?
Kora/Paya:!?
Gerald/Yn:!?
After Hana stopped on a cliff where she saw the village, one by one her fellow students ran into her back, leading to all of them to fall and roll down the cliff into the Yurei village where the spirits did not follow.
Everyone:(groans in pain)
(Opening theme)
The class of the chicken was left in the room they were given to stay in and told not to leave until they figure out why the spirits attacked them.
One by one, the students were questioned by Era herself.
They all shared similar stories. All except for Yn, who told her about the panda girl but left out the part of him spying on her conversation on the satellite phone.
He didn't mean to leave it out, it just happened. By the time he realized that he didn't say that, Yn was already up to the dorm room provided to his class.
Not feeling like Era should know that, he moved on.
Arriving inside the bedroom space, the eyes of his classmates were all on him.
Yn: Hey...
Kora: Spill the beans. What's going on?
Yn:?
Gerald: It's obvious that you have information that we are not privy to. So inform us.
Yn: What's there to tell?
Paya: Why not start when you woke up in the forest?
Yn: Okay... So I woke up in the forest.
Yn: After I wandered around a bit, I found myself in the middle of some kind of spirit meeting where they talked about their king being gone and growing fruit because of it.
Vina: Growing fruit...?
Yn: Yeah. This was all back in the place where Era left us to meditate. "The king's opening", I think it was called?
Paya:?
Yn: After being chased away, I met the panda girl. After that, I met up with you all.
Yn: Then during our meditation, a panda led me up a tree where I saw Era talk on a phone about needing more time to do something.
Yn: Panda girl then warned me to get you all before those spirits came, I guess?
Yn: That's it.
Kora: King's opening... Isn't that the place the locals talked about?
Paya: Yeah... They mentioned it was a place that spirits considered to be sacred.
Yn: So you believe me?
Hana: Hold on, not just yet... Can you explain the fruit?
Yn: I don't really know much about it.
Gerald: Perhaps I can help.
Hana:?
Gerald: I've researched the forest of spirits before, which led me to find stories about a fruit of great power.
Gerald: If the spirit king is truly missing and they want to grow fruit because of it, we can conclude that the two are connected.
Gerald: Perhaps the fruit is the equivalent to a crown. Whoever posses it is the new king.
Yn: That sounds about right.
Gerald: There are still a few things that are bothering me. The chief for example.
Gerald: She of all people should have known about the king's opening. And that phone Yn mentioned.
Gerald: Who would she possibly talk to about getting more time?
Yn: Her boss?
Hana: She's a chief, she shouldn't have a boss. And that's why this is all just too suspicious.
Hana: There is obviously something going on here. Zeiro is there anything more you can tell us?
Yn: No, but maybe Aneku the panda girl can? She was supposed to meet me at sundown.
Kora: Hate to break it to you, but the sun's long gone.
Yn: Oh... That can't be good.
Running up to a window, he opens it and sticks his head out to look out for Aneku. With no sign of her, he was pulled back into the room by Hana.
Hana: Stop that.
Yn: We know somethings up with Era. Let's go investigate her with our stealth skills.
Paya: Spying on a village chief could get us a lot of trouble and even ruin the relationship the village has with our school.
Gerald: She's right. The evidence we have isn't enough to prove she's involved.
Gerald: Even if it was, it's your word against hers.
Yn: What are we supposed to do? Nothing?
Hana: Yes. Assassin's do not interfere with others' business unless otherwise paid to.
Pand:(whimpering)
Everyone:?
Turning towards the window Yn left open, they find a panda shivering on the window sill with something in its mouth. It fell to the floor then began crawling up to the students.
It then dropped a letter it held in its mouth. The letter simply had "help" written on it.
The panda did this because of Aneku, but when the panda began gagging, before throwing up a gold coin, it was clear that the little baby panda did that out of desperation.
Yn:.....
Grabbing the gold coin covered in panda barf, he holds it up to the rest of his class.
Yn: You wanted to get paid. Here you go.
