"I want you to find an inn to stay at tonight. We don't want you having a run in with the demon."
My mother said as she passed me my saddle bag. I nodded as I slipped my foot in the stirrup and mounted my horse.
"Of course mother."
I tell her as I strap the saddle bag to the saddle. The demon is said to be a blue eyed beast that roams the woods. He has killed off many of King Washington's warriors.
"Have a nice trip."
Mom says as I ride down the street. I make my way towards the south gates. The guards nod at me as I rise out of the gates. I'm dressed in brown trousers, brown blouse, and a raccoon fur vest. My black belt has a dagger, pistol, and extra ammo attached to it. My hair is tied back into a pony tail as I ride.
After about four hours I choose to let my horse get a drink from a stream. He leans his head down to drink and I look around. The forest is really beautiful at this time.
The sound of a snapping twig steals my attention. My head snaps to the right as I look closely. Nothing moves as I look over but I can't help but feel that someone is watching me.
I pull on the reigns and ride my horse away from the stream. That was weird and I can't shake the feeling of someone's eyes on me.
For the rest of the day I ride. When the blue sky turns to black I sigh as I'm no where near a village. I tie my horse to a tree branch as I set up camp. I start a fire out of some dry woof I found. From there I clear out the area and lay my blanket down on the ground. My saddle bag works as a decent pillow.
As I watch the fire my horse begins to stir. I look over at him to see nothing near him.
"It's okay boy."
I tell my horse as I walk over to him. I stroke his snout as he calms down. Another twig snap steals my attention and before I know it I'm pushed up against the tree. A hand covers my mouth as I look into the eyes of the thing that pushed me against the tree.
He has the most amazing blue eyes. His figure is taller than me and is clearly muscular. He is shirtless with some tattoo markings on his arms and chest. A wolf hood covers his hair and is supposed to cover his eyes. But with how close he is standing I can't help but see his eyes.
"I'm going to remove my hand. You will not scream."
He says as I nod. He slowly removed his hand from my mouth.
"Who are you?"
I softly ask him as we never loose eye contact. He sighs and walks away from me. He moves towards the fire and sits down near my saddle bag.
His skin is beautifully tanned. His trousers are made of wolf hide and he has leather boots with bear fur hanging around them from his waist. On his shoulder he has a patch of moose fur. I follow after him and sit next to him on my blanket.
"I am called many different things. At one point I was called Connor, at another I was called a killer. The name that my mother gave me is Ratonhnhaké:ton. But you know me as the Demon, the beast, or maybe even the Hybrid."
He says and I gasp. I looks over at me with his blue eyes. Fear must be clear in my eyes.
"D-dont kill me. P-please."
I beg him as I notice all the Wepons he has on him. A tomahawk, bow and arrow, sword, knife. All these could be used to bring me to my last breath.
"I won't ever hurt you. Please don't be scared."
He says softly as be grips my hand in his softly. I flinch at first but slowly relax into his hold.
"All those rumors-"
"Are fake. I don't kill people for the fun of it, I only kill when attacked or in battle. I'm not some despicable man that eats children for a snack. No, I'm simply a native man looking for a bride. My body must scare many people away."
He says as he gazes into my eyes. Part of me can't help but trust him, another part feels sorry for him.
"What village are you from?"
I ask him and he smiles. He scoots closer to me and I don't flinch away.
"The Kanien'kehá:ka village. But to help you understand, the Mohawk village."
He says and I nod.
"What's your name?"
Ratonhnhaké:ton asks me as the fire crackles and burns. The flames dance around and around.
"Christine."
I tell him and he smiles.
"That's a beautiful name."
He says as the sounds of people yelling fill our ears.
"I must go. I will find you again."
He says as he presses a kiss to my cheek. I blush as he dashes through the bushes. I look up at the sky to see that it's already morning. I smile and gather up all my stuff. I saddle up my horse and we ride on to Boston.
[Two weeks later]
"Excuse me, may I speak with you three?"
Our pastor asked us as the church service ended. My father, my mother, and I all nodded and sat back down.
"What is it?"
Mother asks the pastor as he sits in front of us. He pulls a letter out of his pocket with a frown on his face.
"This letter was dropped off at my door step by a tribe leader. She was old and walked off right after I took the letter. This letter reads;
'Pastor,
My adoptive son and best warrior has taken a great interest in a lady we assume goes to your church. She is called Christine. My warrior would like to be allowed into your house. He would like to be able to court this girl and be wed to her one day.
There is only one thing that we are concerned about. His reputation among your people. I will say no more about it but please do consider this.
Tribal leader of the Mohawk tribe.'."
He reads off and I imeaditly knew this warrior is Ratonhnhaké:ton. He did say he would come for me.
"I wanted to bring this up with the family. Seeing as this could be great news for our little town of concord. A marriage between the two could lead to amazing things."
The pastor said and my dad sighed. Mom held his hand as she looked at me with tears in her eyes.
"Why her?"
Father asks and my pastor shrugs his shoulders.
"I don't know. He must have saw her one day and followed her here. Do you want me to allow this warrior to court her?"
Our pastor asked my father. My father sighed and looked to me.
"Do you want him to?"
Everyone's eyes looked to me as a smile made its way apon my lips.
"Gladly."
"It's settled then. I shall write a reply back and have it sent out."
Our pastor says as he stands. We all go our separate ways. I can't stop thinking about him, about Ratonhnhaké:ton.
[Three days later]
I'm standing in the middle of town. The letter said they should be arriving around noon today. Everyone in town has heard of this and everyone is here to see it.
"THERE HERE!!"
A guard yells and all eyes flash to the path. An old woman with long grey hair is on a tall brown horse while three men walk along side her. Two men are walking along side the horse and the man in front has a wolf hood.
Ratonhnhaké:ton has the wolf hood.
His head is down and his broad chest and shoulders is on show for everyone. The group walks up towards the pastor, my parents, and myself.
The two men help the lady off the horse and pass her a stick. She is short but can move.
"Nice to meet you preacher. I'm the tribal leader."
The lady says as she and pastor shake hands. She is clothed in deer pelt and leather.
"This is my best warrior, Ratonhnhaké:ton."
The lady says as Ratonhnhaké:ton steps forward. I really need a nick name for this hunk of a man. Ratonhnhaké:ton keeps his head down as he steps forward.
"Greetings, I am the pastor of this lovely town. This is Christine and her family."
Pastor says as he points to me. I smile at them and the lady smiles back.
"Why does he keep his head down?"
My father asks the tribal leader. She looks at him and back to Ratonhnhaké:ton.
"Because is he shows his eyes you all will run in fear."
She says and my father scoffs.
"You don't believe me. Ratonhnhaké:ton lift up your head."
The lady says and my man does as told. The pastor, my family, and everyone else in the town screams and runs away.
"We disown you Christine! This monster loves you and you agreed to this! We hate you!!"
My mother yells and it hits my heart. I'm disowned by my family. It hurts. I fall to the ground crying and soon I'm wrapped up inside Ratonhnhaké:ton's arms.
"Hush now child."
The tribal leader says as she kneels down to my level. My head is laying on Ratonhnhaké:ton's shoulder.
"I guess you will be coming with us. You can experience our ways and if Ratonhnhaké:ton doesn't fit your liking we can take you to other tribes in search of a husband."
She says softly and Ratonhnhaké:ton growls. He flipping growled!
"Mine."
He says as he tightens his hold on me.
"Ratonhnhaké:ton my friend. Your wolf power is taking over again. Breath."
Another man says and Ratonhnhaké:ton closes his eyes. He takes a few deep breaths and opens his eyes again.
"I'll go with you guys. Everyone here probably hates me."
I tell them and they all smile. Ratonhnhaké:ton picks me up bridal style while the other men help the tribal leader onto her horse. A few men run out of their houses with torches and guns.
"Be gone demon!"
"We will kill your chosen you ugly beast!"
"Die you filthy hybrid!"
We're just a few of the things the men yelled. We all bolted out of their as fast as we could.
[Six months later]
I've chosen to call Ratonhnhaké:ton Connor. It was like a second name to him. These last six months have been full of Connor courting me. I became used to their culture. I'm clothed in wold pelt shirt and deer leather pants.
Yes, I was scared of him at times and yes he has killed for me. But I still love him.
As of now he has been gone for three days. He went into the city of Boston for a reason he wouldn't tell me about.
"Christine! Can I braid your hair?"
A little girl asked me and I smiled. I knelt down on my knees so the little girl could touch my hair.
"Thank you."
She says as she begins to twirl my hair around. She finishes and pulls me over to the lake. I look at myself in the water.
"It's beautiful!"
I tell her as she smiles. Her mother calla her back and she runs off. I feel two strong arms wrap around my waist. I gasp but soon after two soft lips press against my ear.
"I missed you."
Connor whisperer as he kissed my ear. I smiled as I relaxed into him.
"I missed you to Connor."
I tell him and he takes my hand. I turn around to see him with a small smirk on his face.
"Christine, I can't tell you how much I love you. You are the best thing that has ever happened to me. You were there for me when my mom was killed, when I was fatality wounded from Washington, and you're still with me now.
I don't know what I did to deserve you. Your everything I ever wanted in a bride. I love you more than words can ever express. I can never do enough for you to show my undying love for you.
But I can do this. Will you marry me?"
He asks as he gets down on one knee. He holds a diamond ring in his hand as he holds mine with his other hand. I gasp as tears brim my eyes.
"Ratonhnhaké:ton yes. Oh yes I will become your bride."
I tell him and he smiles. He slides the ring on my finger and stands up. I kiss him on the lips and cheering is heard from behind us.
"Is this what you went to Boston for?"
I asked him and he nodded. I smile and kiss his soft lips once more. Later that night I was cuddling with my lover. My head was on his chest with his arms around me.
"If we have a wedding based on my culture we can do a wedding night based on your culture."
I tell him as I look up at him. He smiles and looks down at me.
"I would love that. But your town hates you."
He tells me and I shrug.
"I don't care. We can always make the pastor do our wedding."
I tell him and he nods. I press my lips to his and we both soon fall asleep after.
The next day we take a horse and ride towards Concord. I am dressed in a wolf pelt shirt and bear pelt pants. My boots are bear fat with a layer of deer stomach acid. It holds everything together. Connor is always shirtless but he has on bear pelt pants with wolf pelts hanging down from his waist. We both have wolf hoods to cover our heads from the wind and snow.
"The demon is here!"
"Run for your life!"
"They are going to kill us all!"
Many people yelled as we trotted into Concord. Everyone ran and hid in bushes and houses.
"What do you want Demon? Have I not told you to never return!?"
Pastor yells as he walks out of the church. He glares at Connor and I as we dismount the horse.
"I want my wedding to be held here. As soon as the ceremony is finished by bride and I will be on our way."
Connor spoke out with confidence in his voice. I held his hand with mine and I hugged his arm.
"And why would I do such a thing? Why would I marry two savages and make a demons bride?"
He asked us as he stood atop the steps of the church.
"Because if you don't we have men in the trees with arrows ready to shoot. If I give my signal you will be dead and we move on until someone agrees to a our wedding."
I speak out and pastor's eyes shoot to me. He scoffs and I whistle. An arrow is shot right next to his foot. He gasps and looks back at us.
"I'll do it. When do you want it?"
He asks us and connor and I smirk.
"We want a wedding done by her culture but wearing my cultures cloths. My people will be there and so will this whole town. The food will be both my people's dishes and your people's food. The party will have both types of music and dancing. My bride wants it all to go smoothly."
Connor states as he looks up. The preacher only shakes more in fear. I keep my head down enough so my eyes are covered.
"I'll do that. May I see your bride?"
Pastor asks in fear and Connor turns his head to me. I look up and the pastor gasps.
"You."
He snarls and Connor growls. One thing I learned about Connor is that he drinks red willow tea and in turn he has some animal powers. Wolf being his strongest. He wants me to drink this tea during our wedding.
"Fine! I'll do it! I'll have our half ready in three days."
The pastor says and he shakes more.
"Two days."
Connor says as we walk back to the horse. He lifts me up and climbs in front of me. Connor takes the reigns and rides off.
Two days later and it was my wedding day. A knock was sounded at the door to our little house that pastor loaned us.
"Don't open either of your eyes. Our ceremony says the groom can't see his bride before the wedding."
A females voice says and I close my eyes. Her shoes click against the floor and I feel a blindfold placed over my eyes. Connor growls as I stand up.
"I'll be fine babe."
I tell him as I'm lead out of our room. The blindfold is removed and I see my mother, my ex best friend, and my other ex best friend all standing there.
"We need to get her ready. I hope she knows how to put on the savages wedding cloths."
My mother says as she glares at me. I glare back and my ex friends shove me down the hall. I am forced into a room where I see the cloths laid out on a table.
I am wearing a grey wolf pelt dress. The dress has long sleeves and white silk gloves. I had a grey wolf pelt under shirt with wolf pelt trousers as well. A wolf and mountain lion pelt jacket also went with the dress. The shoes I was go wear are bear fur boots.
I quickly strip down and get dressed in the wonderful dress. It was custom that the groom make the dress. He is the one who hunts down the animals, skins them, and sews the pelts together. The meat is food for the honeymoon.
I walked out of the room to see my mother and ex friends looking disgusted at the cloths they were given.
"I hate this! It's so itchy!!"
My mother whined and I rolled my eyes. Their eyes snapped to me as I walked out. The forced me to sit down and into as chair as they did my hair. My hair was braided off to the side with some winter flowers braided in.
"Now we're off to this repulsive wedding."
Someone mumbled as we walked out. The wedding began and my ex friends were disgusted that Connor's groomsmen were people from his tribe. Finally it was my turn to walk down the Isle.
The doors opened and the piano began to play. I walked down the Isle as my eyes met Connor's blue ones. He was dressed in a wolf pelt shirt and bear belt pants. My wolf hood was up and so was his.
Connor took my hand in his as he lead me before the pastor. Everyone sat down and I gazed into Connor's eyes. I bit my lip and Connor took a deep breath so he wouldn't growl.
"We have gathered here today to witness the joining of the Demon- I mean Ratonhnhaké:ton and Christine."
The preacher said. He didn't even pronounce Connor's name right! The ceremony went on until the end.
"You may now kiss your bride."
The pastor said and connor pulled me into him. He pulled my wolf hood back and he let out a growl. I blushed as some people in the crowd screamed. I pushed his wolf hood back and many girls gasped at his looks. Connor pressed his lips to mine as we sealed our wedding as husband and wife.
The reception was just as amazing. We had both cultures foods. Connor's side brought deer, bear, wolf, cougar, and my favorite, rabbit. The concord people brought turkey, ham, chicken, cooked corn, and stuff like that.
"Time for the first dance!"
Connor shouted as 6 men went into the middle of the room. The began hitting the drum and singing songs. Connor and I, along with everyone else from our village dance along with us. The people of Concord looked so confused at our dancing.
When the song ended all the people from our village left the floor. The people or Concord made their way to the floor as the piano began to play.
I took Connor's hand in my own as I taught him how to dance the Concord way. After that song was over everyone cleared the floor. A man from our village walked out into the middle of the room.
"It is time for the Groom to give the bride the red willow tea!"
He shouts and the people of concord grow confused. Connor takes my hand and takes me outside. He passes me a glass of clear liquid.
"Drink this."
He says as he holds the glass to my lips. I take a drink and the world around me goes dark.
After a while I woke up and looked into the eyes of my husband. The room I'm in is a hut back at the Kanien'kehá:ka village. I look around the room and I see two packs of wolves sleeping together.
"Your my luna and I'm your alpha. You got the power of the wolves."
Connor says and I smile.
"Now to seal our bond I must mate you. Many, many times over. It's the wedding night custom of my people."
Connor says and I smile. My dress is gone and I'm left in my shirt and pants. I blush as I feel his lips on my neck.
Here we go then.
