Chapter 13 Jacob
I decided that rather than search for my target, like Evie wanted me to, I would go on the hunt for Archer. With Moleck's help. That was the part that I wasn't excited for. There was something about Moleck that made me not like him at all. Maybe it was the fact that he thought about things before doing them, well... most of the time.
"But first," Moleck said right as I was going to leap out of the train. I grabbed the door frame to keep myself from falling face first onto the cobblestone street and shot him an annoyed look. He just grinned. "I need a snack."
I sighed. "Are you kidding? I'm going." I prepared to jump again, but Moleck grabbed the back of my robes.
"I'm going with you. Really, it won't take that long."
I rolled my eyes and followed him to just inside the door. While he had his nose in the cupboards looking for food I crept to the door and leaped out. I turned in time to see the train speeding away with Moleck still inside. I smiled, silently congratulating myself on that small victory.
I heard the crunching of loose rocks under boots. I turned and saw Arno. His hood was up, like it always was when he went somewhere, and he smiled. "Did I miss the train?"
"You are about ten seconds late. If you had been here about a minute ago you would have been able to get on, it didn't stop," I said. "Do you know where Archer is?"
Arno smiled like he knew where Archer was, but wasn't going to tell me. "Don't you have more important things to do?" he asked innocently.
I shrugged. "Probably. Where's Archer?"
Arno laughed and waved a hand. "If you can keep up I'll take you to him."
Arno took off down the streets toward the Thames. Interesting, I thought as I chased Arno through the streets. That's the next borough I was going for. I don't suppose Archer did that for me? Arno bounded up the side of a building like a mountain goat. I did my best to be as mountain goat-like as possible, but I started to drop behind. Arno was good!
Arno seemed to notice my lack of skill and slowed down slightly. By slowing down, rather than doing it the normal way by simply not going as fast, he started climbing straight up. Are you kidding me?! I wasn't that great at straight up so from where I was I started up in an angle. Arno stopped when he reached the top and watched me climb up considerably slower than he had.
When I finally reached the top I noticed that Arno was panting almost as much as I was. "Good job Jacob. Looks like you need practice going up though."
I walked to the edge of the roof and looked down. There wasn't anyone below me, but it was an alley so I wasn't that surprised, four houses away I could see a bridge that spanned the Thames. "Is Archer in the Thames somewhere?" Something caught my eye off to the right on the river. A strange ship, with two masts and dark red sails that I'd never seen before, was anchored in the harbor.
Arno stood at my side and smiled. "I think you can guess where he is."
"I've never seen a boat like that before," I said. "Does it have an engine anywhere?"
Arno laughed like I'd just said something ridiculously funny. "Of course not! It's powered by the wind and, when necessary, the strength of the crew. That's the Jackdaw, Edward's ship."
"Evie's going to be thrilled," I muttered. "Edward Kenway docked in the Thames. I don't know why that seems so weird."
"Because the whole river is full of steam powered boats, and the wind isn't blowing hard enough to go anywhere! It's a nightmare!" I turned to see a man wearing denim colored assassin robes with two swords on his belt. His hood was down, showing his dirty blonde hair and crooked smile. His eyes were ice blue and they held a devilish kind of humor.
"Hello Edward," Arno said. "I didn't expect you to come already. Did you bring James?"
The man, I guessed he was Edward, snorted. "Of course I brought James. He wouldn't get off at Nassau. Insisted on being my new quartermaster." He sighed in annoyance. "He's with Archer at the moment. They both wandered off in search of trouble somewhere."
Arno smiled. "It's good to have you and your temper back Edward."
Edward glared at Arno before turning to me. "And who are you?"
"I was going to ask you that, but Arno answered that for me," I said. "I'm Jacob."
"Greetings and good fortune to you Jacob," Edward ran a hand through his hair. "I assume you've got places for me to be, but I ain't doing anything for you just now. I've got places to be and things to see."
Arno nodded. "There is a great deal of things to see frère. I'll leave you to it."
Edward smiled. "I knew you'd see it my way."
"Watch out for the people wearing red plaid shirts," I warned. "They'll try to kill you if they see you."
Edward turned and started walking away. "All the more fun for me. Kill the people who look like redcoats." He shot me a mischievous look. "I'll make sure there isn't a single one left in the immediate area by sunset." He pulled his off-white hood up over his head and ran off.
Arno smiled slightly. "Lets hope he doesn't change his mind and come after Archer and I instead."
"Why would he do that? You're his friends aren't you?"
"Because we followed him when he didn't want to be followed. He's got a temper shorter than your first finger and he's not afraid to use it."
That didn't make any sense, but I nodded anyway. I looked up at the sky. The sun was about three-quarters of the way across. I sighed. Jacob, you idiot, stop procrastinating and give your sister the chain that's still in your pocket. Then you can do what you meant to do before your wanderings.

There aren't any Q's that need A's so that's out for this chapter. There isn't much more I can say without giving stuff away, so I'll end it here. I do want to say, however, that apparently Pinewatch is a place in Skyrim. XD Oh well.
May the wind blow strong in your sails.
