Chapter Ten
Chapter Ten
"Tell your Council that the first fleets are ready with countless more on the way." Lama Su's assistant told the two jedi as they stood before the door. The two put their hoods up, knowing that the rain outside wasn't going to stop any time soon.
"We will, thank you." Denali said. And with that, the doors slid open and they stepped outside. The rain came down hard, immediately soaking through their cloaks. Once they had reached their ships, they turned around to make sure they weren't being watched. Once they were certain that the coast was clear, Obi-Wan turned to his droid.
"R4, contact the Council on Coruscant." Obi-Wan told the droid. Denali suddenly sensed something and immediately put her hand on the hilt of her lightsaber as Obi-Wan spoke to Master Yoda and Master Windu. Something was happening, something that wasn't good. Just as Obi-Wan was finishing his chat with the two other masters, Denali spoke.
"They know. They're getting ready to escape." Denali said, then ran back to the door that lead inside the facilities of Kamino. Her boots thumped against the ground, the water splashing where her feet made contact with the metal, as lightning flashed a few miles away.
"Denali! Wait!" Obi-Wan shouted through the rain as he raced after her. Her heart was beating as she ran. She couldn't let this guy escape. Especially with Boba. She wasn't going to let an innocent child, even a clone, be raised by a bounty hunter. She knew what it was like. She spent her childhood training to be one.
She entered the hallway, making her way up to Jango's apartment. She had made sure to remember where it was located, even though it was nearly impossible within the huge facility. After a moment with Obi-Wan trying to keep up with her, she made it to Jango's apartment. Using the Force to unlock the door, she stepped into the room.
Empty.
Completely empty.
"The docking platform." she said, knowing that that was where their ship to escape the planet would be located. Turning on her heal to run out, Obi-Wan sighed in frustration. He knew that she was faster than him by a long shot, she would tell him millions of times as well. He just really hated it when they were on missions, and she could actually prove that she was better than him.
They ran down the hall once again, this time in a different direction. Denali made sure to slow down every once in a while so that Obi-Wan would have a little bit of his pride left. Seconds later, they finally reached the docking platform. The doors to the outside slid open and the two Jedi sprinted into the rain once again.
Denali examined her surroundings. Sitting before her was a large ship. It had two blaster cannons on each side of it's wings and a green color tinted to it. It was obviously something that would belong to a sort of bounty hunter. There were no marks that represented the Republic on it's surface, no labels that said it was Separatist property. No loyalty what-so-ever.
"Dad! Look!" Denali heard Boba shout. She finally noticed that the little boy was standing on the loading ramp of the ship, wearing what looked like his father's blue rain poncho. A man in a blue armored uniform stood up. A Mandalorian helmet hid his face.
"Boba, get on board!" the man in the suit, which was most likely Jango, shouted to his son. Denali and Obi-Wan ignited their lightsabers as the bounty hunter pulled out his blasters. Deflecting each shot, the two Jedi watched as Jango powered his jet-pack and began to hover in the air. Denali made sure to notice the huge rocket launcher on the back of the device. As Denali was ducking, rolling, and back-flipping out of the line of fire, Obi-Wan was impressed with her gymnastic abilities.
"Denali, stay close to me." Obi-Wan said quietly as Jango disappeared from clear view. Denali did as she was told and stood back-to-back with her husband. It was dangerously quiet, only the sound of rainfall and the hum of their lightsabers surrounding them.
'Don't leave my side.'
'You say that as if this is our final battle together.'
Suddenly the two were pulled from their thoughts. Denali saw it coming before Obi-Wan did. Using the Force, she pushed Obi-Wan to the side and out of harm's way. Back-flipping the other direction, Denali knew that Jango had been planning to use his rocket launcher the whole time. The rocket exploded between the two Jedi, causing them to fall to the ground. Denali fell back, her head slamming against the metal ground, the world around her spinning. Obi-Wan wasn't in any better shape.
But he stood up on wobbly feet and quickly regained his composure. His lightsaber up for defense, he saw Denali's limp body on the ground. Anger raged inside of him, but he knew better than to use it to his advantage. Jango attacked, kicking the lightsaber from Obi-Wan's hands. Dodging and sending attacks of his own, Obi-Wan was aware of the young boy that had walked out of the ship.
Denali couldn't hear anything happening around her, but she could see. She could see her husband and Jango Fett fighting a few yards away from her, she could sense Boba approaching her. Tilting her head slightly, she saw the the young seven-year-old kneeling beside her. He extended his hand to her, and she took it, thinking that he was there to help her.
But she thought wrong.
Once her hand was in his, he jabbed a syringe into her arm with his other hand. She shouted in pain, causing Obi-Wan to notice what was going on. He looked over at his wife and saw that she had been poisoned by the little boy she had grown to like within the small amount of time they had spent together.
"Denali!" he shouted, wanting to run over and help her. But Jango wasn't going to let that happen. He had to keep Obi-Wan occupied if his plan was going to work out. And especially if he wanted to get paid. Kicking the back of Obi-Wan's knees, Jango tackled the man to the ground.
Guilt began to flood into Boba's mind. He knew he had done the wrong thing, but his father had asked him to do it. He had to do what his father wished, he was the man who had raised him for the past seven years after all. Dragging the now-unconscious Jedi to his dad's ship, he was surprised with how light the woman was. In only a few minutes, he had gotten Denali into the prisoner cell of the ship and was powering the engines.
"Good work, Boba." he heard his father say as he sat in the pilot's seat. Boba smiled at his father as he took his helmet off and set it on the floor below him. Grabbing the controls, Jango steered the ship away from the cloning facility and into the atmosphere. Jango smiled slightly, knowing that his plan had gone perfectly.
Obi-Wan stood on the platform, breathing heavily as he turned off his lightsaber. The tracking beacon he had thrown at Jango's ship was blinking brightly as it disappeared from view. Turning to his side, expecting Denali to be laying there on the ground, he gasped. His heart shattered into a million pieces.
Denali was gone.
