Interview
This month, we are interviewing JaxonBlacc
ToD: For this month's aspire magazine, our tagline is 'to complete'. How long does it take you to complete a book on average?
JaxonBlacc: Oh, it depends on what's going on in life. For example, during NaNo 2020, I wrote 50K words in 18 days (I had time). But my other books have taken 6 months to 1 year to finish.
ToD: How did you feel when you completed your very first book?
JaxonBlacc: Honestly, sad. I always get sad when I finish writing a story, or finish reading someone else's story. It's as if this small part of me that I dedicated months to building and caring for is over. But then the editing process comes and I loathe the story loool xD
ToD: What does your writing process look like from the moment of crafting the idea to completion?
JaxonBlacc: It starts with me getting inspiration from movies/tv-shows or reading stories, and other times from seeing a picture while scrolling on the socials (does anybody use the words "socials" anymore? I swear, I'm not that old XP) which I'll spend hours trying to make a cover for. Then I'll make small chapter notes (what's something that should happen in each chapter) and write around it. After I mini-plot at least ten chaps, I write until the end.
ToD: Has there ever been a time where you left a book you were writing incomplete or almost left a book you were writing incomplete? If so, why?
JaxonBlacc: Most times from boredom, and I read somewhere that if you as a writer get bored with your story, then the reader will to (I don't know how true that is), so when that happens I stop. But recently, I left a story (the Nano 2020 project I mentioned above - callback!) because I felt my writing wasn't where it needed to be to do the story justice. I'm slowly getting there :D
ToD: What keeps you focused when you have doubts (if you ever have doubts at all)?
JaxonBlacc: I always tell myself, "There's no one that's going to tell this story but me. Even if there may be others with similar plot out there, no one will be able to tell it the way I do."
ToD: How do you process negative feedback?
JaxonBlacc: Everyone wants everyone to like their sh*t. So, when the hate comes, it sucks. But you just gotta keep writing. Though, sometimes, there's good criticism from the negs, which I usually take after a day or two of frowning xD
ToD: What do you hope to accomplish in your writing journey?
JaxonBlacc: As long as I have the strength to keep writing, then there's nothing more I need in life. Every day that I wake up and get to write is already an accomplishment.
ToD: Are there any authors (on or off Wattpad) that inspire you, and/or that you consider to be your favorites?
JaxonBlacc: I don't read a lot of books outside Wattpad or Wattpad clubs. My inspiration comes from movies and tv shows. Eg. my story Coyote is inspired by shows like Dark Matter, The Expanse, and Killjoys.
ToD: What is your favorite time to write, and why? Could be a season, a month, a specific time of day, etc.
JaxonBlacc: At night. It's quiet.
ToD: What's some advice you can give to new and older writer's?
JaxonBlacc: There's no one that's going to tell this story but you. So keep writing.
