Status Quo by chrltt-t
Title: 5/5 I like the simplicity of the title and how it ties into the story. I think it also does a very good job at hinting what kind of challenges the story will revolve around.
Cover: 3.5/5 I have a soft spot for simplistic covers with pretty fonts so this definitely falls into that lovely little category for me. Though, I can't see the tiny don't beneath the title. And I can hardly see the author's name. But the fonts are still nice overall. Very appealing to the eyes.
Blurb: 3.5/5 I like that the blurb immediately gives us insight into what to expect, what kind of stakes are at risk, etc. And that we already know it'll be a friends-to-lovers romance. It's short, sweet, and straight to the point. Though, I do wish it would have kept me on my toes more. There are some details that could have been sewn into the story itself, rather than laid out in the blurb. Because the information is very basic, not as interesting, from the perspective of a reader. However, that just might be my personal taste. So, please take this with a grain of salt.
Plot: 4/5 What I loved about this plot was, it was the perfect amount of fluff and angst. Most of the conflict between the love interests was very natural, not over the top. There were a few conflicts that were very serious that carried on throughout the story, but I felt they didn't drag on too much. I honestly adored the resolve most of these conflicts came to. Because they never dragged on for a long time between Rachelle and Leon (the love interests), due to their communication with each other.
Pacing: 5/5 One of the many things I loved about this book was the pacing. It was the perfect speed for a proper build up from a platonic relationship, to a romantic one. And though, the characters didn't take too long to get together, the remainder of the book explored their bond. That was probably my favorite thing about Status Quo. There were so many awe moments.
Character Development: 4/5 I love how we're introduced to this lovely pair of best friends, Rachelle and Leon. In the beginning, Rachelle's crush on Leon is already established. And she makes it really obvious. However, she is insecure and lacks courage to go forth with confessing to him. We start to notice a change in this later on though, after something happens between her and Leon. By the end of the book, her character development is clear, whereas she was an insecure girl in the beginning and has grown into a confident girl by the end. Of course, her confidence isn't perfect. But it helps her evolve. I love that her character traits adapt to this change too. As for Leon, the only development I can really point out for him is . . . he just gets sweeter. Like sweet enough to kill, haha! Overall, I loved, loved, loved, them both.
Overall Comments: If you're looking for a very sweet, best friends-to-lovers romance I highly recommend checking this out! It's cute, funny, fluffy, heart-breaking, but most importantly loving.
