"What's that?" I asked, staring at the shadows and shards of light in the distance.

"Raynor," Mother said. She stopped the car and ran out, leaving us stranded in the heavy traffic.

"Mom!" I yelled, getting out.

Suddenly the ground beneath us trembled, causing the highway bridge were on to crack. Everyone jumped out of their cars and ran for dear life. Those with magic like us flew out, but those without magic fell to their untimely demise.

"No," I said, watching as thousands of screams pierced the air. 

"What's going on over there?" a woman asked, pointing the the shadows. Suddenly the city further beyond roared into flames as the ground below continued to tremble as if the world were coming to an end.

"This magic," Jason said, staring at the shadows. "Father."

"Stay here," Mother said. "Jason, take good care of Olivia and the others. I'm going to go see what's going on."

"Mom!" I yelled. "That light, it's dad's, isn't it?"

She nodded solemnly. Suddenly the air itself shook, sending all of us flying away from the epicenter. A pillar of light and darkness pierced the clouds and beyond.

"This is insane!" Elliot screamed as his brother formed a barrier around us.

"These shadows. Is this the darkness foretold by our ancestors?" Xun asked as he strengthened the barrier.
