Bad Days (Story)

[3rd Person POV]

Green Steve opened the door to the house, glad that he had been given his own key. One of the other four wouldn't have to get up in their current state and let him in.

As he shut the door behind him, carefully switching the hand his bag was in, Green heard a familiar voice in the living room.

"Hey Green." Dark called out. "Thanks for being here on short notice."

"It's no problem, Dark." Green replies, walking to the living room. "The other three are in their rooms, I'm guessing?"

"Yep."

Green entered the living room and saw Dark sitting on one of the armchairs. He was wrapped in a blanket from his room, and despite his warm smile, he still looked miserable. To Green, it was very clear what was wrong.

"Usual issues?" Green asks, already reaching into his leather bag after putting it down on the nearby coffee table.

"It feels like all of my bones are angry at me and taking revenge." Dark says, laughing a little. "Tried to go on as normal and head downstairs, but I gave up once I got to the living room and have just sat here since. It feels worse than usual."

Green, now very much concerned since the living room was not that far from the stairs, thinks for a moment. He then starts looking for something else in his bag.

"If it's that bad, I have something that'll help. Fair warning though, there's a high chance it'll make you drowsy." Green explains, then starts mumbling to himself. "I just have to mix it in some water... once I find it."

"Being unconscious is better than this." Dark sighs. "Speaking of, Time's already out cold and Sabre and Rainbow are trying to sleep off whatever they caught."

"Oh, they have an illness this time?"

"Yeah, they went out to that night market anyway."

Green sighs as he takes a small fabric pouch from inside his bag.

"I keep telling them to be more careful during flu season..."

"It's Sabre and Rainbow we're talking about. Did you really expect them to listen?"

"It was more of a hope."

Dark laughs, but quickly stops.

"Ow... spine..." He groans.

Green starts walking to the kitchen.

"I'll be right back Dark, just hang in there, okay?" He gives a soft smile. "This medicine just needs some prep before I can give it to you."

"Alright."

Once he gets to the kitchen, Green grabs a cup and gets some water from the sink faucet. Then, taking a spoon and the small bag, he scoops out a very small amount of crushed herbs that are pretty much a powder and mixes it into the water.

Taking the cup of medicine back to Dark, Green carefully hands it to him while being mindful of his slower, more cautious movements. He knows it's hard for him to do things when even the slightest movement causes him pain.

"Thanks." Dark smiles.

"You're welcome." Green smiles back. "Now, while you drink that, I'm going to see how the others are doing. Hopefully after I've checked on them a few times, they-"

"Green, you don't need to stay with us all day."

"Dark, I know you just don't want to bother me, but none of you are in any condition to be able to take care of yourselves." Green says with a bit of an authoritative tone. "You, for one, can barely walk. I promise, it's no issue for me to come over and help you guys when you have your bad days."

"Okay..." Dark says. "I just feel bad that I'm taking up your day-"

"Once again, it's no issue. You just rest."

Green then headed upstairs. First, he stopped at Time's room. Carefully opening the door, he saw his clock-faced friend lying in bed, dead asleep. It was strange to see Time, normally so well-kept and tidy, so disorderly. However, given the circumstances, it was understandable. Whenever Time was going through a day where his power fluctuations left him feeling so lethargic, he almost never had the energy to even get up, let alone tidy up a bit like he did every normal morning.

Seeing that nothing was really wrong at the moment, Green decided to just let Time rest for now. It was better to leave him be than try waking him up.

Then, he went to Sabre and Rainbow's room. Usually, Green would only have to check on the fusion if they had one of their episodes, which were fairly rare. Although with the information Dark had given him, he knew that the weaker immune system they're victim of was the culprit of their condition.

He had warned them not to go out at night for too long during flu season due to how cold it could get, however the two had been looking forward to a night market that was happening at a neighboring village. Knowing them, Sabre and Rainbow were likely having too much fun to notice the temperature dropping, leading to them getting chilled by the night air and wind.

Green knocked on the door, moments later hearing both of them reply.

"Come in."

Opening the door, he saw the fusion sitting up on their bed, looking disheveled, Gerald sitting next to them on Rainbow's side. The pig oinked a greeting while Sabre and Rainbow waved.

"Hello, you two." Green smiled at them, walking in.

"Hey Green." Sabre replied.

"You were right." Rainbow added.

"I keep telling both of you that you have an even higher risk of getting sick around this time of year." Green sighed, taking a small bottle out of his bag. "You're lucky I keep the right medicine for you guys in here."

He handed them the small bottle, which was filled with a purple-colored liquid medicine that Green had made for them specifically. His normal medicines for illness didn't entirely work because of Sabre's part of the fusion, because he was a different species, but with the help of Sabre explaining the few things he knew about his world's medicine he was able to figure out something that worked.

The fusion took the medicine, Rainbow immediately making a sound of disgust once they finished.

"Why do the medicines that work on you always have to taste like dirt?" Rainbow asked his other half.

"It's not that bad." Sabre replied. "Besides, how do you know what dirt tastes like?"

"Shut up."

"Neither of you would have to do this if you just listened." Green said, chuckling at their sibling-like antics.

The fusion then stuck their tongue out at him, which just made him laugh since the medicine had turned it purple. After telling them to rest (and scolding Gerald for not letting Rainbow sleep because he wanted to play), Green headed back downstairs.

When he returned to the living room, Dark had fallen asleep in the armchair. Green was happy that the medicine was working, he hated seeing his friend have to deal with so much pain. Now just left to wait, Green took a book out of his bag and started to read.

He never minded caring for his friends on their bad days. If anything, it was a thank you for all the good they had done for the world.
