We got to know each other quickly living together. He certainly was peculiar, but I suppose he was what I needed at the time, and after our first case we became close. I suppose the bodies didn't seem altogether too strange after a while, and when he came across as rude I knew it was not intentional. As for faking his death, I understand he didn't really have a choice (though a line might have been nice), and by that time we had been friends for a long while already.
