100th Chapter
((So someone said do both meme dump and pride icons, while someone was wondering what happened after the fight, so here it is. Meme dump, pride icons, and a short oneshot. Also the maximum pictures per chapter is 20 so I'll try living like that. These pride icons aren't the highest quality because Wattpad loves erasing the quality the smaller it is so if you want a higher-quality icon, feel free to dm me and I'll try to send you one. Most memes are alingment charts since I like alignment charts. Also usually made at 3:00 a.m. so be warned))
Family
A Short Self-Indulgent Oneshot
K.C. sighed, closing the Fly Pad. She had just finished the recent question on their Ask or Dare book. The chapter was rough, she knew that.
She looked out of the wide nursery windows, the clear blue sky outside. It felt calm. Especially compared to what had happened.
She would be lying if she said that the little chat earlier didn't make her feel a little heavy-hearted inside. She was obviously bothered. She didn't expect to get attacked for something she couldn't control, but she supposed that it happened to a lot of animals. That's just how life went.
K.C. hated being brought into arguments. Sure, there were some animals who loved joining arguments to provide their own inputs and viewpoints. However, if it didn't have to directly involve her, then she didn't want any part of the potential drama.
Sadly that was not the case most of the time, which included a while ago. She knew she should be happy to have a fully functioning family, and she definitely was. It made her sad that some animals didn't get to experience that though, even her two best friends. She bit her lip.
It had been a while since Freddy and Pip had last argued. So long that she didn't even remember how it had turned out. All she knew that there were a lot of hurtful words that one would immediately regret thrown about. She wondered how long it would take for those two to make out— wait, no, she meant,—make up.
K.C. stood up, looking at the babies who were playing around. She was supposed to bathe them soon, but maybe she could leave them alone for half an hour or so. She took out her Fly Pad and sent a quick email to Captain Beakman telling her to send another stork to watch the babies. She could explain later.
She kept her Fly Pad in her jacket's pocket which was just large enough to contain it. Then K.C. walked out of the nursery.
She supposed she could check on Freddy first. That flamingo was much easier to find. She turned left towards the blue hallway where the rooms of the fliers were, with her red sneakers squeaking on the shiny beige floor. She spotted the door with fairy lights hung outside and tentatively opened it.
There was Freddy as she suspected, huddled up in blankets on his bed. His shared Fly Pad with Pip was with him and he was playing games on it. There was a bag of chips next to him that he was eating, and some soda.
"Hey, Freddy," K.C. said, entering the room and sitting on the floor, which was clean as far as she knew.
"Hey, K.C.," Freddy replied, turning his head in her direction for a brief moment. Then he focused on his video game again. K.C. sighed, unsatisfied with it. Though she knew that the young flamingo may need a little push in the right direction.
"So I'm sorry for your situation," K.C. said. She tried to prevent sarcasm seeping into her voice, and for the most part it had worked.
"Huh? Uh, yeah... I'm sorry, too," Freddy said, placing his Fly Pad down. They stared at each other for a few more seconds before the flaimgo broke contact. His eyes started flitting around the room, and his wings started fidgeting with his blanket. K.C. sighed.
"Do you want to talk about it?" K.C. asked, raising her eyebrows. Freddy slowly turned to look at her.
"Maybe..." he said in a small voice. It was fragile. It sounded more like a squeak, if anything. It was also innocent and youthful. If only he had stayed that way as he grew up.
K.C. couldn't help but think about the number of children who had lost their innocence due to shitty parents exposing them to fucked up issues. She supposed that maybe that's how growing up worked for some animals.
She stayed silent, waiting for the flamingo to start.
"It's... It's just not fair. It's not fair how I have a homophobic mother and other animals have a perfect happy family..." Freddy said, frowning as he continued to fidget with his blanket. K.C. bit her lip, feeling a need to explain that others don't have it so easy neither, but decided to save it for another time.
"I'm sure you'll be able to be free of them eventually. It's only a matter of time. Then you'll find a home where you're fully accepted as yourself. Heck, most of us here accept you," K.C. said with an encouraging smile, though feeling awkward inside.
She always felt awkward whenever she's supposed to give reassuring words, or help someone feel better. She would usually end up going for a selective truth anyway. Sure, sometimes she'd be really good at these things, but it still didn't erase that awkward feeling.
"I guess so..." Freddy said. It was meant to come off as indifferent, but K.C. could hear a specific note in his voice. He wanted to hope for it as well.
"You're also going to have to talk to Pip as well eventually. That definitely struck a chord with that penguin," K.C. said, feeling like the next hard thing was coming up. Getting them back together.
"Later..." Freddy said in such a small voice that the wide-eared koala almost didn't hear it. K.C. sighed.
"Alright, I'll give you time to cool off. Maybe you two can try talking later, either in the cafeteria or the nursery. Is that alright with you?" K.C. asked, raising her eyebrows as she stood up. Freddy nodded as he grabbed his Fly Pad once again. The sisterly koala sighed, though she had a feeling that Freddy would be there. And so she left the room in search for a specific penguin.

Pip enjoyed helping out Mr. Woodbird, especially when he's upset. If only there weren't three of his workshops in the building complex. Sure, one was reserved for Pip. However, there were quite a lot of times K.C. checked in that workshop and found no one, so she had to check the other workshops.
All she could hope for while walking down the hallway was that they were in the usual one. The doors slid open. She released a sigh of relief as she saw that the woodpecker and penguin were there, working on a program for something.
Pip was there handing over a sandwich to the hungry engineer and staring intently at the screen in front of him. He watched the numbers and letters as he continued to go typing away and reaching an error every few minutes. K.C. sighed. Of course he'd just subject himself to more work.
"Hey, Pip, and — uh— hey, Mr. Woodbird," K.C. said, crossing her arms, waiting for the penguin to look up. She exchanged a look with the other woodpecker in the room, recognising that this business didn't really concern him and he could continue to work in peace.
"Hey, K.C.," Pip said without missing a beat, and without looking up. They all stood there for a few more minutes, an awkward feeling settling in the air. It was a different kind of awkward for each of them. For K.C., she felt awkward being present while they're coding.
"Is there anything you want to talk about?" K.C. spoke up again, hoping for something to finally happen.
"You can leave now if you want to," Pip said, who was now typing alone on a computer. Mr. Woodbird had moved to a separate area to compile his programs, and to not meddle in their business.
"I'm sure you're not okay. Please stop blocking out your feelings," K.C. said with a sigh. She really hated it whenever an animal would do that. At least babies were always so raw when expressing their emotions, and she'd usually know what they wanted or needed.
"I'm completely okay," Pip said, still not looking up. His tone was a little too casual to be unsuspicious.
"Don't you want to talk about it?" K.C. asked, raising her eyebrows. She felt frustrated by both of them, but she was not giving up. She'll eventually crack them both, though things would be so much easier if animals would just be fully honest.
"No. I already told you many times that it's happened a long time ago already. It doesn't matter anymore," Pip said, still staring at the computer in front of him.
"Oh I'm sure it does matter to you. If it didn't, you wouldn't have been so upset," K.C. replied, giving up on a more sensitive approach and just trying to fight him with logic. Or at least, her logic and how it worked for her.
"Look just drop it," Pip said. He was trying to act calm, but his voice had become shaky and a bit of anger was surfacing. The koala knew he had given up on giving his reason. Now he was just trying to block her out. K.C. bit her lip. At least she cracked him a bit now. They were finally going to get somewhere.
"Why are you so eager to drop it?" K.C. asked, going for a casual tone. She hoped the casual tone would, in some way, crack him even more. She knew quite a few animals who would get angry if the animal they were arguing with was being really calm.
"Just... I don't really want to talk about it, okay? It's... It's already happened a long time ago, and I already feel sad thinking about it, and bringing it up more is just going to make me feel worss," Pip answered, finally looking up from the coding and closed the computer.
K.C. couldn't help but let a satisfied but sad smile tug at her lips. She knew it had happened a long time ago. That still didn't prevent her from suspecting that it was still affecting him, one way or another. At least he was finally being more open now.
"Alright, fine. I'll respect that," K.C. said with a sigh, despite wanting to continue on.
"But you should be patching things up with Freddy," K.C. added, remembering the flamingo who was still cooling off in his room.
"Yes, okay! Let's do that!" Pip said, his eyes widening. He immediately bolted towards the door. K.C. called out after him.
"Wait! Freddy still needs some time alone!" K.C. shouted after him. Pip seemed a little too eager to patch things up with his best friend, and the koala probably knew why. She smirked, but kept those thoughts to herself.
"Oh..." Pip said, stopping in his tracks in the middle of the hallway. He sighed and was quite disappointed as the realisation hit him.
"Yeah, y'know him. Recharge time," K.C. said with a fond smile, knowing that she herself sometimes needed to spend some time gaming on her Fly Pad to cool down.
"Maybe you two can make out later," K.C. said. She turned, only to find out that Pip was staring at her with a shocked expression with his face. The confused koala raised her eyebrows.
"What did I say?" K.C. asked. Pip didn't answwer. He just kept staring at her, as if he had just seen a ghost. The koala was still confused and it took a few more seconds for it to finally hit her.
"Oh I mean make up. Yep! That's definitely what I meant." The koala fixed her mistake, and for once she understood why mistakes were happy accidents. She tried not to smile.
"Okay..." Pip answered, suspicious.
"Well, now that that's done with, Freddy'll be seeing you later! Maybe in the cafeteria or the nursery. I dunno," K.C. replied, waving bye as she proceeded to walk back towards the nursery, leaving the young penguin to process what she had just said to him.

K.C. had spent the next hour or so crying over Ordinary Days and Amélie while taking care of babies because she believed that being emotionally raw would help in tackling with emotions, and what better way to do it than through crying while one dealt with tiny balls of rage and more crying?
K.C. at least managed to finally finish with her work and set all the babies either to sleep or to their deliveries though, so there's that. She had to admit that the storks who covered for her did do well.
She had wiped all her tears by the time the sun finally set and the moon was just appearing, with stars faintly dotting the night sky, arranged in random arrangements that nobody expects. She supposed it was time to gather the two little children, unless they were already there together.
K.C. knew they weren't in the nursery. She was already in the nursery after all. There was no sign of the penguin nor the flamingo. She assumed they were already making out in the dining hall. Or at least she hoped they were already doing it. She didn't wanna be the one to push them. However, if it came to that, she might as well.
She walked out of the nursery and took the elevator which descended down to the dining hall. It wasn't that packed full of storks yet. That was good. At least they would be getting some privacy while they make up. She scanned the many tables for any sign that Pip or Freddy were there.
K.C. finally spotted the table with the bright pink feathers pf the flamingo. She walked over to it. She had a smile on her face. She had a feeling that they had finally made up. As she got closer, her smile dropped. They were sitting at the same table. But Freddy was still playing games on his Fly Pad while Pip was sleeping. She sighed. Maybe they hadn't made up yet.
"Hello?" K.C. asked. The flamingo was still playing on the Fly Pad, as if he hadn't heard. The penguin was still asleep. She bit her lip. She wouldn't normally resort to this, but she was tired.
They were also being very incompetent. There's only so much stubborness she could deal with before getting exhausted. She softly slapped Freddy's Fly Pad and slapped Pip awake.
"Jesus Faist—!" Freddy exclaimed the same time as Pip woke up and shouted, "Holy crap!"
"K.C., what did you do that for? I was just about to finally beat this stupid level!" Freddy said pouting as he looked at his Fly Pad.
"I'm sorry but I just spent time crying which actually makes me more tired, so I guess I'm one of those people, and I don't have time to deal with too much crap at the moment," K.C. said with an apologetic smile as she sat down. Pip and Freddy exchanged a look with one another.
At least the two birds communicated.
Whenever Pip and Freddy exchanged a look, it was a small intimate exchange. As just an audience, K.C. felt like she was intruding on some secret possibly satanic ritual that only Pip and Freddy could be doing, if y'know what she meant.
"Well... anyway..." K.C. said, taking a deep breath. She was starting to regret her decisions that day. To late for turning back bow. She had better calm down first.
"So... Is there anything anyone would want to say?" K.C. asked, getting down to business. Though she wondered if she really did. As a few more minutes of silence passed, she realised that maybe she should have been a little more specific.
"Guys? Hello? A few hours—" K.C. stopped herself as she noticed the two of them were just staring at her. She took another deep breath and tried again.
"I'm sure some of us had said some hurtful things a while ago," K.C. began. Her eyes flitted between the two young birds, waiting for some type of reaction.
"Yeah... I'm sorry... I shouldn't have done that... It's just... I hate my parents... I hate how they managed to be that way... I know that's not a worthy explanation though," Freddy said, frowning as he looked down at the table. He didn't quite meet anyone's eye yet.
"I mean... I hate what happened to my parents, too. Or at least what happened to one of them..." Pip said, looking down at the table.
"I shouldn't have complained... I'm sorry..." Freddy said. He felt awkward apologising. He was feeling guilty, and he did feel bad. That doesn't erase the fact that personal apologies were always so awkward.
"Yeah, no... I kinda get it... I am lucky..." Pip said, looking up.
"Besides, you still got a family here," Freddy said with a smile, moving over to sit beside the penguin. He hugged his best friend.
"You, as well," Pip replied, sinking into the hug.
"Why does this sound like a marriage proposal?" K.C. asked with a smirk. Pip's eyes widened.
"We're underage!" Pip said. K.C. had to admit that was true, and underage marriage was something she would not allow. Still. It was hard not to poke fun at the duo.
"Alright... alright... Sorry..." K.C. replied between snorts, barely sounding sorry at all. Pip and Freddy stared at her, getting concerned for their friend's sanity.
"Do you ever get the feeing you go too far with this teasing?" Pip asked, raising his eyebrow. That had caught K.C. off-guard. She didn't know that they had noticed or even knew what she meant whenever she was tossing around comments like those to them.
"Well— Trust me, gays... You haven't seen the worst..." K.C. said, flashing back to too many moments.
"You haven't started making fanart of us, have you?" Freddy asked, eyes widening, "Though if you did, I wouldn't mind all that much. I wanna see how you draw me"
"You guys know I can't draw to save myself," K.C. scoffed lightly. Her art skills could use quite a lot of work. Her music skills, on the other paw... "What I did do is compose some songs that made me think of you're" — K.C. faked a cough — "'friendship." She drew quotation marks in the air with her paws.
"Can I get the sheet music or something?" Pip asked, his eyes immediately lighting up. K.C. raised her eyebrows. She was about to send another teasing retort but decided against it. She should calm down with all the teasing anyway.
"Why'd you wanna know? Wanna play it or sing it some day?" K.C. asked. She vaguely gestured to the flamingo with her head. She saw the penguin tense up a little bit. She smiled. So he was planning to sing it to Freddy...
"It would be very interesting to hear a song K.C. composed about our friendship! Especially if you sang it, Pip!" Freddy said with a smile. He softly nudged the other bird's wing with his own. The koala saw the penguin's cheek redden a little.
"Look... Just... don't think too much on it..." Pip said, and the koala could tell it was mostly directed towards her. She chuckled, and then stopped.
K.C. took a deep breath, prepping herself to take the coversation to a serious tone one last time so that they could finally settle the matter. It was quite annoying when they'd get side-tracked talking about something personal. Though she supposed that it was partly her fault.
"So... now that we got that out of the way, are you finally going to start being friends again?" K.C. asked.
"What do you mean? We didn't stop being friends, especially not because of one argument. Why would you assume that?" Pip asked, raising his eyebrows. K.C.'s eyes widened. So maybe not everyone was like that. She didn't answer, and just tried to occupy herself with thinking of other things.
"Now look who's not saying something," Freddy said. She could feel both their eyes on her. It was kind of overwhelming.
"Let's save this for another time, alright?" K.C. asked, raising her eyebrows. She braced herself for endless questions. She did prod on them quite a lot anyway. To her surprise, not a single question was thrown at her.
"Yeah, alright, you can explain it next time," Freddy said, exchanging a look of agreement with Pip. K.C. sighed, feeling relieved.
Now that the apology had been done, the duo was interacting way more now. The koala knew that the problem wasn't fully resolved though. Things like these would most probably pop up from time to time. It wasn't like one could erase the past or anything.
The least they could hope for was to not blow up as much when the next argument comes around, or to not throw around words that could probably hurt and cause a lot of regret later in life.
((All memes aside, thank you all for being here for 100 chapters already, especially for sticking around. You all probably hate me already and want me dead. Same, if it makes you feel any better. Thank you for still putting up for some shit like me.
I am still continuing this Ask or Dare book, so this is not the end))
