Round 3: On Marvel, Wattpad, and the concept of time

Q1 from VioletInk101: Who is your favourite Marvel villain?

I can't tell you how many people think they know my favorite Marvel villain.

"Obviously it's Loki," you're thinking right now as you read this. "Who else could it be?"

Well, folks, buckle your seatbelts. It's not Loki or Killmonger, although both are wonderful. It's not Thanos, Hela, or Ultron. In fact, my favorite Marvel villain did not appear in a Marvel film. He is, however, part of the MCU.

So, who is he?

He is Zebediah Killgrave. Truly the best and most terrifying villain in the MCU, he's the "big bad" in Season 1 of Marvel's Jessica Jones.

What do I love about Killgrave? Nothing. In fact, I'm absolutely batshit terrified of him, which is why he's my favorite Marvel villain. I seriously couldn't sleep after watching episodes of Jessica Jones, and he was unnervingly evil. There's nothing redeemable about his character — he's truly insane, incredibly well-acted (hats off to David Tennant), and the scariest character I've ever encountered in the MCU.

That's why he holds the #1 spot.

Q2 from RSynel: What is your favorite book on Wattpad? How did you get the idea on making the Loki Trilogy?

Honestly, I don't know if I could pick one favorite book on Wattpad. I can list a few! Keep in mind, this is a very short sample of a very long list. :)

- No Capes by joecool123
- Silence by natashapreston
- I Know Lucy by melissapearl

How did I get the idea for the Loki books? Welp, I wanted to write about Loki, and I had the idea for a character who was Natasha's sister years ago. (Pre-Loki). I already knew that this character would be British, adopted, and have no memory of her past in Russia. I used my own time in Istanbul as inspiration for the beginning of the story, as well as my own experience as a journalist + social media, to give Anna a realistic start that was engaging and exciting from the very beginning.

I also knew that I didn't want the story to progress as quickly as other fanfictions, which is why you don't even meet Loki until several chapters into the story. I wanted people to love this trilogy for my characters, not just for Loki, and I wanted readers to fall in love with Anna. I also wanted it to be unclear what was happening at the beginning (a lot of people comment about confusion) because I wanted it to unravel as the story progressed. You'll even notice upon re-reading that there's some very subtle foreshadowing woven throughout the beginning of the book.

More importantly, I wanted to do Loki justice. I didn't want to make him soft and lovable. I wanted him to be a jerk, to be broken, to be a little bit dark, and to still have a spot of goodness in him. I think that's why people love him (and he's attractive, obviously), but so many fanfics have him turning super nice and wonderful. Um, no. That's not Loki.

Q3 from Geeky_Freak3: What's your patronus on Pottermore?

It's a white mare! My wand is an Elder wand with a Phoenix core, 13 inches, with unyielding flexibility. Totally not scary or intense at all.

Q4 from ryanhartman: Is time truly an illusion? Is time even real?

I do think time is perception-based. It's interesting how it passes because it's absolutely relative in many ways. When I think back to my childhood, I think about how *long* a school year was. It felt like an eternity. Then, as I got older, things spend up. It makes sense, really, since the percentage of your life gradually decreases. When I was four, a year of my life was 25% of my entire existence. Now it's more like 3.5%. It's crazy to watch that number go down.

Some of the constructs of time are interesting to think about as well. Think about days, for example. What is a day? 24 hours? One rotation on Earth's axis? That's such an arbitrary definition. What's a day on Mars? On Venus? On the Moon? One "day" on Pluto is equivalent to 6 days 9 hours and 36 minutes on Earth.

I do like the Doctor Who theory of time, and I like to imagine it's more wibbly wobbly, timey wimey. I like the idea of time not being linear, and I'm very interested in the different multiverse theories. Do I think they're true? Not sure. It'd be pretty damn cool though.

One of my favorite "deep thoughts" about time, however, comes from Tumblr:

I have more answers coming for you guys soon, but I'm putting together some videos to answer a few previous questions.

Don't forget, I'm still open to questions! Got something you want to ask? Fire away!
