The best thing anyone can do to improve their writing ability, as with anything in life, is through practice. As you continue to write you will eventually look back on your earlier works and cringe. I personally consider my earlier stories on Wattpad to be absolute garbage. Awful story telling, poor character development, and more grammatical and mechanical issues than I can count. I think this is a good thing though. I take it as a sign of growth. If I didn't find my early works terrible it means that I haven't improved, which is not something I want.

I have a book titled, Master Class: How to Write Creative Fiction, that goes into more depth about certain things you can do to improve your writing.

I think also that "bombastic words" can make a difference. Using enraged instead of angry will change the dynamic of the story. Carefully picking and choosing the correct words to use at the proper time will help convey the exact message you're trying to convey.

Grammar patterns will also dictate your personal style, and often times I find myself in awe of some other authors and their use of imagery or their diction. I would love to write like them, but I also know that it wouldn't be me. It wouldn't be my voice. And I think that if it's not my voice it won't sound as good, because I'm trying to mimic someone else, and that would come across in my writing.
