The creation of Mary Ortencia
In the Mary Ortencia Chapter, I said that she had the power to shapeshift and see into the future, as well as going through the ink.
An anon asked if Mary was ever planned to be a Mary Sue because of this, to which I am responding no, Mary and all my other Ocs are not ment to be Mary Sues; I may give them special powers, but with limitations.
Me and a friend had actually talked about this when I was creating Mary. We talked about how we could make Mary powerful, but not too powerful, or too weak; as well as make her interesting.
Here are the things that create Mary Ortencia:
Origin
I like to create Ocs for as many fandoms I'm in as I can. I've seen other Batim Ocs, and I noticed a bunch of them are cartoons; so I wanted to try something diffrent and make my Batim Oc an Inkman (like Sammy and Projectionist).
Abilites.
Shapeshifting:
When I said that I was planning on giving her the ability to shapeshift, my friend said that it could make her a bit overpowered due to her being ink, which is a liquid. We thought that she could only alter her form to a specific distance and way, which seemed good.
We also thought she can only shift into living things (Bendy for example) that she has personally seen. If she hasn't seen that being, she can't become them. She doesn't gain their abilites (Example: Can't make Projectionist's light), so it's more of a disguise to get around safely.
We then came up with the idea that whenever she shifts her form, she gets tierd and weakened. If it's as small as making her arm a bit longer, it'll take little energy; if it's as big as turning into someone like Bendy or Projectionist, it'll take a great amount of energy. The more she shifts, the weaker she'll get. If she uses too much energy, she'll pass out, but not die. She'll be vulnerable when passed out, if Henry ('cause he's someone who'd fight her) hits her with something, she'll retreat into the ink.
Future Vision
We at first thought we'd let her visions last at least one minute, but we cut it shorter to 2-4 seconds because it didn't fit well. As well with the seconds, the visions don't show exactly what's happening, but can show a small picture. These visions come to reality 5-12 minuets later.
When she's having a vision, Mary's eyes have static in them and she'll stop what she was doing, also making her vulnerable to attacks.
Ink jumping
Seachers do this, Bendy does this, possibly Sammy and other do this, so why not Mary?
Personality and behavior
Originally, before Rise and Fall, Mary was going to be a follower of Bendy. Now she's with Alice, but doesn't really worship her like Sammy does with Bendy, she'll respect her and few times call her "My Angel" (refuses to say "My Lord").
She was always going to be playful and energetic.
I originally planned for her to be a musician, which would've explained why she stayed with Sammy before I changed her to the Angels; but we then thought of a backstory that could be even more unique.
We looked at all the roles showed and mentioned in Joey Drew Studios, and noticed a lack of security. We came up with Mary being the only security gaurd (unless you count Norman (read his recording to understand)) and during working hours, she would stay in one room hidden from others, watching through cameras. At night when nobody was around she'd wander the studio, guarding the place. We also made it so only Joey knew of her existence, not even Grant knew about her (Joey obviously had to pay her so he would come up with stories whenever she needed her paycheck).
It was when she was alone in the Security Room that she found out Joey's intentions and tried to escape as ink was filling up her room, but drowned in the ink because the door was stuck. She has no voice recorder so if Henry ever encountered her it'd be completely unexpected.
Back then, before the events of Batim, Mary was a stubborn, gloomy girl. Who never really likef Joey in the first place. Now, when she's passive, she's playful and energetic, often seen playing with Searchers or the Butcher Gang or by herself. When hostile, she's dangerous and brutal, grabbing and flinging Henry into the wall or a pile of stuff.
She's sensitive to loud noises, such as loud, shouting arguments and machines falling apart (*cough*Bertumbeingdefeated*cough*).
Designs
Mary went through a few design changes.
The first being when she was going to serve Bendy. She wore a mask like Sammy, and her hair was longer.
The second was without a mask and her hair a bit shorter.
The third design had Mary's outfit more torn.
My friend came up with this design, which shows Mary looking more like an ink monster.
The final design is Mary now.
Few extra facts
°Mary was origionally called Samantha, but that later changed.
°When Mary came back to life, she had amnesia and could only remember her name. It was when she found Joey's voice record did she remember.
°Henry and Mary don't have the best relationship, this is because of Alice
°Though being 30 years old, Mary likes to act like a kid, being seen playing with toys from the Heavenly Toys area
°She has eyes like the Lost Ones, but that was coincidence, because Mary was created long before Colossal Wonders was even announced.
°We actually have an explanation for why Mary is so thin. She's allergic to pork, so she can't eat Bacon Soup (bacon is pork). She eats a few plants that grow in the dark found in a few areas deep in the studio.
°If there's no actual food to eat, she'll be found chewing a peice of wood.
I hope this chapter can answer your question Anon, and for y'all to better understand Mary.
See y'all in the next chapter.
Ask/Dare the Inky Dorks!
By the way...
While I was writing this, an anon asked me this:
Anonymous asked: I bet my Batim Oc can beat yours. This is V. from your job btw.
Game on.
