Q7: How I Got Inspired To Write Sam & Cat & the Haunted Thundermans
RyanSmith020 : How did you get inspired to write Sam & Cat & the Haunted Thundermans?
Creativity77: That's a really good question! I was really hoping that somebody would ask me that! Actually, a month or two before I actually started to write Sam & Cat & the Haunted Thundermans, I started to think how cool it would be if Nickelodeon were to make a crossover with Sam & Cat, The Haunted Hathaways, and The Thundermans. They were my three favorite shows at the time, plus Nickelodeon aired them together for the longest time ever. At that time, the only other sitcom that was on Nickeloedon was Every Witch Way and it wouldn't air on Saturdays, like pretty much every other show on Nick. To be honest, I'm not really too crazy about that show. Anyways, I started to think about how they could all come together. I thought that the characters from The Thundermans and The Haunted Hathaways could go to Los Angeles and all of the characters could go to the park the same day as each other and Phoebe, Max, Nora, Billy, Frankie, Miles, Taylor, and Louie could get into some mischief and get punished. Also, I thought that I could make them not like to be babysat and their parents tell them that they are going to hire a babysitter. And then, Sam and Cat would over hear their convo and offer to babysit. But then I realized that that plot had a lot of flaws because why would Phoebe, Miles, and Taylor want to get into mischief and Phoebe, Max, Taylor, and Miles are too old for babysitters! Plus, Miles, Louie, and Ray are ghosts and I had no idea how they were going to be able to interact with the rest of the characters, so I began to think that it would be much easier if the crossover would only consist of two shows.
Then, one night, I was texting somebody about that one episode of Sam and Cat where they got the word "lumpatious" into the Oxford English Dictionary and when I typed in Oxford, there wasn't a red line underneath it, which meant that my device recognized it. So, I was like, "Omg! I wonder if Oxford is a real place!" So, I looked it up and found out that its a real city in California. I also looked up nard berries and the Oxford English Dictionary and found out that they were real too. "Wow, I wonder what else on Nickelodeon is real!" So, I tried looking up Hiddenville and found out that it only exist on The Thundermans(sadly). However, I found this story called, Hiddenville Falls, on this site called, Fanfiction.net. The story was a crossover between The Thundermans and Gravity Falls, a cartoon on Disney that I like. The book was so good that I almost cried. However, the author only posted seven chapters and hasn't updated since December of 2013! That's when I started to think, "You know what!?!? I'm going to write my own crossover book too! And I'm going to post it online!"
So, that's when I actually started to consider on writing on Sam & Cat & the Haunted Thundermans. At first, I didn't know how to get them together. But then I remembered that one episode of Sam & Cat where Nora escapes from jail, ends up kidnapping Cat and Dice, Sam ends up defeating her, and Nora ends up going to maximum security at the end. So I started to think, "What if Nora broke out of the police car, ended up escaping, and ended up calling some of her friends to help her get revenge on Sam and Cat?" So, that's when I started to think of how I could make the characters from The Thundermans and The Haunted Hathaways want to go to Los Angeles and meet up with the characters from Sam & Cat. "What if Phoebe, Taylor, Cat, and Cam decide to enter this contest where they have to pull a state out of a hat and have to go to said state and write about a person from there? Phoebe and Taylor could both have to write about a Californian, Cat could have to write about a Louisianan, and Sam could have to write about a person from whatever state The Thundermans are from! Also, they could all end up winning and end up winning a vacation to Mexico!" I thought. So, that's when I started to think about where they would go together. "What if they met up at Bots and then later decided to hang out with each other at several other places to get to know each other more?" I thought to myself. Once I had a plot that satisfied me, I started to write(And it was around 11:40 at night!). Basically after that, more and more ideas for Book I started to blossom.
About a little less than a month later, I was looking up Thundermans fanfiction and I found this one story on Wattpad, so I decided to make an account. Once I got used to it, I remembered how my friend told me about this site where you could write stories and people could comment on them while you are still writing them. They told me what the site was called too, but I couldn't remember what it was called. However, Wattpad did sound familiar to me. So was like, "Omg! This was the site that my friend told me about!" Also, I remember I brought Wattpad up to them and I was describing it and they were like, "Oh, Wattpad!" "Yeah! I think that was the site that you told me about awhile ago!" I replied. I don't know if they have an account or not. I keep on forgetting to ask them. Anyways, before I get really off track, several days after I made an account, I posted Sam & Cat & the Haunted Thundermans up on there.
By the time that I had posted the last chapter, I had roughly around five-to-seven good readers and seventy votes. Also, as I was writing the last few chapters of Book I, I started to think about writing a second book. "You know what?" I asked myself, "Why don't I write a second book? I have a big enough audience!" So, I started to brainstorm up some ideas for a second book. Also, some of my readers voluntarily gave me some ideas for a second book without me even asking for any! After I was done writing the second book, you guys just kept on asking if I was going to write another. Same thing with books III and IV. And because of that, I am now in the progress of making Book V. But don't feel like you guys are pressuring me because you aren't! I write because it excites me, I enjoy it, it entertains me, and because I am amused by how I can come up with good ideas so quickly. Like, I'll be writing one chapter and while I'm writing it, my brain will be like, "Let's make ______ happen in the next chapter!"
I really hope that you don't mind the really long response that I gave you, RyanSmith020 ! Feel free to ask me anymore questions that you might have!
