How to Write P.O.V.s of the Opposite Gender
@prisely551: How do you write p.o.v.'s of the opposite gender?
Creativity77: What a good question! Actually, it's very easy! I have done this many times before, especially with the Sam & Cat & the Haunted Thundermans Series. Here are some steps to help you write as if you were a character of the opposite gender:
1. If you are writing fan fiction, think about how this character would usually act. If it is an OC(own character), just think of how the opposite gender would behave. Keep in mind, girls and boys may be different when it comes to some things, but we are all human and have feelings. Others may act differently to something than someone else would or react more dramatically.
2. Think about what this character likes/dislikes. If it is an OC, then make it up! Think of some things that the opposite gender would like or not like. Remember, some people can be more masculine or more feminine than others, regardless of gender. It is quite alright to make a boy character like something "girly" or a girl like something "boyish".
3. Think about the physical appearance of the character. If it is an OC, imagine how you would want he/she to look like. Especially in non-fanfiction books, it is very important to describe to your readers how your characters look right away. Now, you don't have to go into full description. I would at least mention hair, skin, and eye color. Something else that you might want to add is whether their hair is long, short, or medium and whether they are tall, short, or average height. And it is very ok to make a boy character have long hair or a girl character have short hair. Do whatever you think would match their personality. And it is very ok to make a girl taller than a boy in a story because in real life, there are girls who tower over boys and boys who are just at the average height of a woman. (Side note: don't ever let your height make you feel bad about yourself because regardless, you are beautiful! :)) Also, please do not give us the character description halfway or towards the end of the story without giving it to us in the beginning. For example, one time, I was reading this book and I was imagining one of the characters having black hair, but then like more than halfway into the book, they revealed that she had blonde hair and I was like, "really? For reals? You couldn't of told me that in the beginning? Well, Imma just keep on imagining her that way since I've been doing it for like half of the book!"
4. Always keep in mind that although some boys and girls may have different interests, it is not rare for them to have many similar ones. Boys and girls may be a bit different, but in many aspects, they are alike. Boys and girls are both human beings with their own feelings and points of view on the world. It is not rare for someone of the opposite gender to be just like you personality wise. :)
Thank you so much for asking me that question, @prisely551! I really hope that my answer helped you! Have a nice day and don't forget to keep on asking away! :)
