Chapter 5 - Identity
The warm, light sun rays, kiss my skin as they peek through the curtain. Is it morning already? how long have I been asleep for exactly? Using little force, I push myself up spreading my hands into the light. It feels good; I feel good; I am now hungry.
Onwards mighty captain! To the kitchen. Wait does this place even have one? Where am I? oh god, has someone kidnapped me!
"See? told you she would be awake by now."
Taron was stood by the door, along with Destiny. They both smile at me and walk in the room, towards the bed. Jumping on it with ease before starting a conversation.
"You've been sleeping for some time, had a good dream did you?"
The dream, the girl, I remember all of it. How she could talk to me. I really must sound insane. I look over to the two of them and smile. I stop smiling when I notice Taron's now concerned face.
"Tar- "
"What dream?"
I sheepishly look away then back to him. Did he really just read my mind? Hold up! The blood!
"Y-You f-fed me b-blood?"
He sighs and looks my way and nods.
"You made me feel better?"
"Yes."
"Because of your blood?"
"Mhm."
"But why or how-"
"Because I am not human."
I stare at him in shock. Is he pulling a prank here, right? Where's Scotty? Here, boy! I'm here and not about to be pranked!
"Really? you compared yourself to a kids' show?"
"You bet you're an ass I would, what do you mean you're not a fucking human!?"
Destiny was full laughing by now, hands on knees type. Great, another embarrassing thing ready to add to the list of others. A good job Sir!
"How do I put this-"
"Uh, like a normal human being, oh wait, never mind, since you're not one, apparently!"
I was beyond confused and angry. If I was a mythical creature, my hair would be a fiery red by now.
"Right. You need to stop interrupting me."
I glare at him but wave my hand for him to continue as I childishly roll my eyes at this man.
"I, my lovable person who won't stop interrupting me, a vampire."
He's joking, right? I spun to face him.
"Right?"
He shrugs his shoulders while letting out a frustrated sigh in annoyance.
"Nope."
"Prove it."
I regretted my words as soon as I saw his red orbs stare into my blue ones. Red, gosh it's so beautiful.
He gazes at me but changes his expression into surprise.
He tilts his head at me and laughs.
"You think these eyes are beautiful? Don't make me laugh, these are the eyes of a killer Ava."
Suddenly, he wore a dark expression, concealing his once relaxed face and morphed it into a deadly stare. It sent chills to the core of my body. I felt trapped, as I gazed into his red, swirling through the green. Beautiful.
"I do."
He looked at me with wonder and smiled a little, causing me to smile back. At that moment I felt a connection, a pull to him. A rushing feeling evolved within me, covered my body with warmth.
"Find me."
I snapped out of it and looked at him.
"Tell me you heard a voice just now."
He looked at me weirdly before turning around to look at his surroundings, then looking back.
"No."
"Why?"
"I keep hearing the little girl that was in my dreams."
"Are you serious?"
"You think telling me you're a vampire wouldn't be as serious as this!?"
"You're right, sorry."
"Anyway, yeah, I keep dreaming about a house in the woods and a mother and child."
He seemed to grow curious and leaned his hand against his chin while resting his elbow on his leg.
"The girl called me Ashlyn."
He suddenly stood up and looked at me with shock.
"What did she look like?"
I think of what she looked like and zoned out, tapping my fingers on my leg. Minutes pass by.
"Well?"
"Hold on, I'm contemplating, be a patient young man."
He sighs and crosses his arms in question. Truth is, I've known what she looks like from the start, I wanted to annoy him. Serves him right.
"Heard that."
Damn mind reader.
"She's a little girl with black hair, her eyes glowed red too."
"Is she-"
"A vampire? Yes."
"What about anyone else?"
"I think it's her mother, sometime during the dream she was found by the child on the floor dead."
It makes me sad, replaying those images through my head. I feel like I've lost something so important.
"Do you know her name?"
I shook my head for a no.
He looked lost and afraid as I say those words.
"You seem to know her?"
"I've met her before yeah, she was a cute kid."
He smiled at the memory, a heartwarming one.
"Was?"
"Yeah, she died a long time ago."
Poor girl, what on earth happened to her?
Reading my thoughts he replied again.
"No one knows how she died, we just... know that... it wasn't an accident."
Anger crossed his features as he clenched his strong jaw. He must have had a connection with the girl.
"Yeah, you're right, I did."
I turned my attention to him in shock. Wow, now I feel bad.
"I was friends with the family, I would always visit them."
"Oh."
"Mm."
"Find me."
"Taron, why do I keep hearing her if she's dead?"
He springs his focus on me, widening his eyes.
"You can hear her still?"
"She keeps saying, find me. As in her body?"
"No one knows where her body is though."
A realisation hit me hard, smacked right in the face.
"The dreams."
"You don't think she's contacting you through them right?"
"I think she is, her spirit maybe?"
"Possibly, but how can that happen when you're human Ava?"
I laughed at him and raise my not filled in eyebrows.
"I thought the vampire would have an answer to that, hm, guess not?"
"Don't be cheeky, cupcake."
"Don't. Call. Me. Cupcake.!"
"Tomato, sounds good doesn't it?"
"I hate them though."
"Ah but I love them."
We both stopped short of our next words. A silence that longer than necessary appeared out of nowhere. Well then.
He throws out a cough then straightens his posture.
"Let's get breakfast shall we?"
A give him a small nod and a smile to match with it.
"Why kind sir, that sounds absolutely refreshing, I'd love to."
He chuckles and grabs a dress from the wardrobe and chucks it at my face. However, me being the idiot I am, I laughed at his silly behaviour and jumped out of the bed to shoo him away so I could change into his choice of clothing.
Hm, an interesting decision Mr Holt. A dark blue laid perfectly in my eyes as I ran my soft fingers along the dark material. My favourite colour. It reminds of the times I would visit the ocean to write my songs. It was my secret getaway back then. How I miss it.
Shrugging my thoughts to the bottom, I slip out of the dress I had already been wearing and changed into the blue one. It fit me perfectly; I was basically a foot when you put on that nice, comfy sock for when it's cold. Weird way of describing but we'll go with it. I'm now a happy, comfy sock.
I walk to the mirror in the room's corner and saw my reflection. Good god, I look like I have done nothing about my attire at all. Remind my self to look for a brush because this is just nasty. I slide my fingers through my hair and flip my head upside down, tying it into a messy bun. It stares back in the reflection of this mirror. Eh, it will do.
Heading out the door I spot another room across from this one. I walk to it but I was stopped when Taron held my arm to pull me to the kitchen.
"So as I was saying, let's get breakfast."
"Alright then."
I tap his shoulder as he grabs his keys from the bench.
"Lead the way."
We're now sitting in a small cafe in the middle of town. It's cute and cozy, the chair so soft that I feel like I'm sitting right smack on a babies bum.
Taron chuckled at my thoughts making my face go red again.
"To-"
"Don't you dare."
I shut him up by stabbing aggressively in the lasagna, creating a smoosh sound. Yuck. I mentally cringed at my own actions.
I laugh as I see Taron do the same. He eyes me in annoyance but still laughs and finishes his own bowl of delicious pasta. Yes, having pasta for breakfast, who doesn't?
I looked around absentmindedly In a search for entertainment. I see a group of guys, sitting jock information at a table. They smirk and wave, trying to give that sort of signal. I wave back not wanting to be rude. A growl is heard from in front of me.
"Bad boy, don't eat them please, they're just playing around."
"You're not the one that can read their minds, come on let's go."
He tugs at my arm and follows through to the counter of the cafe, paying his fee for the food and coffee. A much-needed one at that, I would have been loping around all day with a headache. I'm pretty sure I'm addicted to the stuff. It's probably the only thing I love. Except for his blo-
I'm cut off short when one of the guys stood next to me smirking. I raise an eyebrow, internally wanting Taron to hurry his paying so we could go.
"Hey beautiful, you look oddly familiar, do I know you?"
I became cold to the bone, latching on Taron's arm for defence against them. It was them, the men that attacked me. Everything was coming back. I felt the sudden need for protection. Something to secure and hold me tight. Stay strong Ava.
"Kill them, it's in your blood."
No, go away! I'm not killing them. Get. Out. Of. My. Head!"
"Ah, no sorry, wrong person?"
"Well okay then, you like a girl I saw in the street some time ago."
I tug once more and he finally turns his dangerous gaze to the guy next to me.
"Is there a reason you're here exactly?"
The man smirks and nods his head in a boyish way. Idiot. Now you've done it.
"Just checking out something that interests me. What about you man?"
Snap. I could literally hear his teeth grazing against each other. I place my hand on his and hold it down. Calm down.
He looks at me and breaths out through his nose in frustration but nods his head while doing so.
He takes a slow, dangerous step towards the guy. The man seemed to understand what he got himself into as I look of regret flashed through his eyes as he stared into Tarons now narrowed, angered ones.
"No one touches, what belongs to me."
The guy clearly got the hint and backed away, straight to the table of his group and sat down in shame.
"Pathetic humans."
"Come on, let's get out of here."
He takes ahold of my hand which sends electricity through my body, shocking me in my pulsing heart. I firmly strengthened the hold and walked along with him.
There it is again the connection. Like a flowing red string, connecting its rivers to its final destination of faith. I felt safe in his hold as if he is my protection against the bad in this world.
We sat quietly in his car, as he started the engine, roaring the car back to life.
A connection that won't last as the way you are, stupid girl.
You'll break and enter a dark world you cannot escape. Trapped in the spider's web as it circles around you to feast on.
You're not me, I am me. Leave this world you call faith and fall in a never-ending nightmare.
