Curtis movie night.(Oh glory) - chapter 3
Everyone was doing something. Sodapop and Steve were arm wrestling and Two-bit was watching.(he put his money on Soda) Pony and Johnny were watching TV and drinking Pepsi.(Pony's forth bottle) Darry had went upstairs to put my luggage away. I could have done it myself, but Darry always liked to treat me like a little kid.(Even though I beat him in an arm wrestling match when I turned 14, proving that I can handle life) And Dally was leaning against the 5 foot speaker that was blaring(what I believe was) Steve's favorite song. It was as peaceful as it ever would be.(or so I thought) I don't like peaceful.
"Hey," I screamed, making everyone in the room go completely silent. Dally even turned down the speaker. The only noise was the TV and their breathing. "Who wants to go to the movies?"
"Wow!" Two-bit said in surprise, "You do act a lot like Ponyboy."
"And you look like Sodapop." Steve announced, "Don't tell me you can fight like Darry." he said in disbelief, "Can ya?" He point his thumb toward the staircase.(since Darry was upstairs) I grabbed his arm and flipped him over, causing him to land on the couch, on top of Pony and Johnny.
"Well, I think I'm just a tad better than ol' Superman." I said acting tuff while looking at my nails.
"Well, alright." Ponyboy said as Two-bit pulled Steve off of them. "I could go for a movie. Who else?"
Johnny raised his hand, "Um, I could go for a movie."
Dallas sat next to me and said, "Well if she's goin', I'm goin'. Sure, I'll be there."
Sodapop stood up as well and with a smirk, he squeezed in between Dally and I. "Me 2." He put one arm around me and one around Dallas. "Gotta protect my kid sister somehow."
Dallas pushed away Sodapop's arm away as Darry scrambled down the stairs. "And if you think I'm leaving a bunch of kids at the ol' drive in alone, you haven't met me. Oh, and by the way, I taught Ash that trick." He ran up to Steve and flipped him over on the couch again, this time landing on Dally and Soda. Soda helped him up and Two-bit raised his hand, as if we were in the classroom. "Um, Ms. Curtis? I have a question."
"Yes, Two-bit?" I asked in the snootiest voice that I could come up with. "Tell us your question."
He put his finger on his lip as if he were a little kid trying to think about something. "Well, will this movie field trip have snacks?" He asked in a high pitched kindergartener voice.
"Well," I said, "it just so happens that they do have snacks."
"Then I'm in." he said in his normal voice.
We tried to got into the old red car in the drive way. There wasn't enough room for all of us, so Dallas offered to drive me and him in Buck's old T-Bird. Darry was about to slap him across the face for offering, when Soda stopped him. "Sure!" he said with a smirk, "Just so long as you don't mind Pony and Johnny tagging along, too."
Dallas mumbled something that I couldn't hear (and I didn't want to find out) and then said, "Whatever." pulling the three of us into the car.
He drove like a maniac all the way to the movies. Our faces turned green and I didn't feel like having snacks at the movie, anymore. Then, we all got out of the two cars.
"So," Dally said, "we sneakin' in or what?"
Soda looked at him. "As long as you don't introduce my sister to the fuzz. Let's sneak in."
When we got there, we sat down in front of four Soc girls. Dallas winked at Johnny and Johnny rolled his eyes. Dallas went up to the four girls. Uh oh.
"Hey, girl." Dally said to the first girl, leaning towards her. The girl leaned back. "Ya look might fine, don't ya?"
"Buzz off, Greaser!" she screamed. "I don't like people who get thrown in jail every two hours." She turned away from him and he put his arm around her. "Get off of me!" she screeched.
Then, two Soc boys got up and walked over to us. Bad news.
"Lay off our girls!" the tall one said.
"Or face our wrath." the stronger one said.
"Or what? I ain't scared of you!" Dally said. They both looked at Johnny. The stronger one crabbed Johnny by the collar and lifted him up out of his chair. "Looks like your kid brother is." he said. Johnny was quivering. His hands were shaking and he looked on the verge of tears. He struggled to get away from the Socs. Everyone except for Johnny, Dally and the Socs were frozen.
"Johnny!" Dallas yelled in a sort of high pitched scream. Dallas had the same expression as Johnny.
He looked into the Socs eyes. He said in a deep voice, "Put him down." He didn't even comment on the fact that Johnny wasn't his kid brother.
"Or what?" the tall one said.
"Or this!" Dally screamed as he jumped on top of the Socs. They punched and kicked and swung. The rest of us went in to help, but Dally told us to stand back and all of them, even Darry, listened. I didn't want to listen to his direction so I ran in anyway. I got kicked and punched a few times but I was fine. After about 10 minutes, it was over, all six of the Socs were retreating to their Corvettes. Darry grabbed my shoulder as I went to help Johnny up.
"What were you thinking?!" he screamed. "You could have gotten hurt. Or worse!" I took his hand off my shoulder.
"Don't worry, Superman. I'm fine."
Dally looked at me, angrily. "Alright, Supergirl. But next time I say no-"
"-I'll do it anyway and save your life. Correct?" I said with a smirk. I helped Johnny up.
Now that I think about it, it was kinda nice of Dallas to do that for Johnny. Without hesitation, he fought to keep Johnny safe. He didn't want any help, he wanted to do it on his own.
Dally socked Johnny in the arm, playfully. "Oh, Johnnycake. Don't you scared me like that again. Okay?" He messed up Johnny's hair. They were both smiling. I'd never seen Dally smile like that. He wasn't giving him a nasty smirk and not that disgusting flirty smile he gave me earlier. It was... Sincere.
"Alright," Dally said, terminating the smile as he turned toward the rest of us. "I don't know about y'all, but I'm out of it. Who wants to hit the road?"
Everyone raised their hand, including me. I had a long day and all I wanted to do was sleep.
