Field medic, part three

Tw: Slight violence.

"Nope. Doesn't work," Nadia decided. "Not at all!"

"What doesn't work?" Tech tiredly asked.

Nadia held up the blaster she had somehow gotten. "I've been trying to shoot this thing for a while."

Tech snatched it from her hand. "I knew you'd been quiet for too long!"

"Do you not trust me with it?" Nadia hurtfully asked.

"Not currently," Tech dryly said. "You nearly decapitated me with a pair of scissors!"

"That wasn't my fault!" Nadia argued. "They flew out of my hand!"

"You were pretending they were throwing stars!" Tech exclaimed. "It is most definitely your fault!"

"No it isn't!" Nadia rolled her eyes. "It's your fault!"

"How is you nearly murdering me my fault?" Tech demanded.

"You were in the way!" Nadia explained. "So it's your fault, Cyra'ika!"

Tech sighed and turned back to the device he was fiddling with. Nadia watched him carefully, before stretching out her leg.

"My leg feels better!" Nadia cheerfully said.

"That is the pain meds taking effect," Tech told her. "But I would deter from putting weight on it."

"I know that!" Nadia stuck her tongue out at him. "I'm the medic here!"

"-ch come -n!" Hunter's voice fizzled in through the comms.

"Hunter, your signal is breaking up. Please repeat," Tech said, grabbing the comm.

"We —— backup!" Hunter spoke again. "General ne— assistance!

"Nadia, General Allie needs you," Tech grimly said. "Are you able to walk?"

"Yes!" Nadia nodded and struggled to her feet. "See? I'm fine!"

Tech watched her dubiously and grabbed her medical bag for her. He opened the door for her, letting the cold air blast through the ship.

"That's really cold," Nadia observed. "Colder than my dorm in medical school."

"Was that cold?" Tech asked, glancing at her.

"No," Nadia said and limped down the ramp.

The snow was up to their waists, and they could barely see the imprints of where the others had walked before. Nadia struggled to move through the densely packed powder, her leg nearly giving out beneath her several times.

"How are you faring?" Tech yelled over the winds.

Nadia shrugged, shuddering due to the cold. Tech seemed unaffected to the weather and walked ahead of her, keeping an eye out for the others.

"T-Tech? Are we almost there?" Nadia called out, putting her hands into her pockets.

"Negative," Tech said. "I managed to track the signal several klicks from here."

Nadia stayed silent, feeling the sting of the cold upon her cheeks. He glanced back at her in concern.

"Your lips are turning blue," Tech noted.

"Are t-they?" Nadia asked. "I-I can't feel them anymore."

"That is concerning. What cold weather gear are you wearing?" Tech slowed down to stand by her side.

"N-none," Nadia bit out. "I didn't b-bring any with me."

Tech took in her thin jacket with a shake of his head. "Hypothermia will most certainly kill you if you don't warm up. Frostbite may have already kicked in."

"I can't feel t-the pain!" Nadia hopefully said.

"Again, that's the painkillers," Tech reminded her. "Just because you do not feel frostbite, doesn't mean it has not taken hold of you."

"I'm fine!" Nadia protested as he shrugged off his jacket to give to her. "You need the jacket too!"

"My blacks will keep my body temperature at an ideal level," Tech said and handed her the thick jacket.

"Alright," Nadia gave in and put the jacket on, then started giggling.

"What's humorous about our situation?" Tech furrowed his brow in confusion.

Nadia continued gigging, but managed to say: "I can't see the sky!"

Tech turned his gaze upwards, before realizing that he in fact, could not see the sky with all the snow swirling in his face.

"And why is that amusing?" Tech questioned.

"Be-because I can't see the sky!" Nadia hysterically said, tripping into a snowbank.

Tech helped her out of the pile of snow onto her feet and sighed. "That heavy dosage is taking quite the toll on you."

"You know what else is heavy?" Nadia winked, a suggestive smile growing on her face.

Tech narrowed his eyes. "What?"

"This jacket!" Nadia complained. "Why is it so thick?"

"The jacket is supposed to keep you warm, and it being thick-" Tech began to explain, but stopped when her eyelids started to flutter shut. "Nadia, are you alright?"

"Mhm," Nadia sleepily said. "Just tired."

"How are you tired? We're trekking through the freezing snow!" Tech waved his arms around, gesturing to said snow.

"Pain meds make you sleepy sometimes because your body needs to rest to recover," Nadia murmured. "And a dosage that strong is... making me sleepy. Also, it's exhausting walking this far with an injury this bad."

"Well we can't just turn back now," Tech pursed his lips as he thought. "Would you be open to a ride?"

"You mean a piggyback ride?" Nadia excitedly asked.

"No... I was suggesting fashioning your thin jacket into a makeshift a sled," Tech stared at her. "What is a 'piggyback ride'?"

Nadia gasped. "Wrecker needs to give you one! I can't believe you missed out on them!"

"Well? May I borrow your thinner jacket to pull you along on it?" Tech asked, ignoring her odd statement involving a 'piggyback ride'.

"Sure," Nadia said and pulled her thin jacket out from underneath the thick one she was wearing. "Heeeeere ya go."

Tech motioned for her to sit on it, and grabbed the sleeves, tugging her along. Nadia laughed as she scooted along, and Tech gave her a tired look.

"Look!" Nadia finally pointed into the distance. "Blaster fire!"

Tech looked up to confirm her suspicions. "Nicely spotted, Mesh'la."

He began to pick up the speed, dragging her faster. They saw droids shooting at an icy boulder, to which provided cover to an injured Jedi and three clones who were heavily outnumbered.

"Hunter! Over here!" Tech shouted, waving an arm.

"Tech? Where's Nadia?" Hunter shouted, throwing a shock grenade into the enemy line.

Tech pointed down to Nadia, who was rummaging through her medical bag.

"What's she looking for?" Crosshair yelled.

"This!" Nadia held up a scalpel, and in her excitement, she buried it in Tech's leg.

"Motherkarker!" Tech cursed, while Nadia laughed hysterically.

"Just... get over here!" Hunter ordered, gesturing to General Allie, who was limp on Wrecker's back.

"Piggyback ride!" Nadia gushed, pointing at them.

Tech pinched the bridge of his nose and removed the scalpel from his leg before dragging Nadia over to the others.

"Are you okay to treat General Allie?" Hunter asked Nadia, eyeing the blood trickling from Tech's leg.

"Of course!" Nadia confidently said before stumbling to her feet.

She pulled out her mobile scanner, and used it on the unconscious Jedi.

"Just a concussion. I'd guess it was from the impact of her escape pod crashing," Nadia reported. "Bed rest for a while, but she's in stable condition until we get out of here."

"Are you better now? Did the meds wear off?" Crosshair asked Nadia before shooting the head off a droid.

"I dunno," Nadia shrugged. "I think so?"

"Well I don't think so," Tech sighed. "It would take quite a while for the dosage to wear off."

Nadia huffed and crossed her arms. "Well I say I'm fine."

"You are clearly not," Tech argued. "Your eyes aren't focused on anything, and you're slurring your words."

"How are we getting out of this?" Wrecker asked, ducking to avoid a shot.

"What if we blow up that thing so the thing crumbles, then the thing will do the thing?" Nadia suggested.

Crosshair's face screwed up in confusion. "The what does the what so the what whats?"

"Mesh'la, it's brilliant!" Tech beamed at her.

"See? I'm not... something," Nadia frowned as she tried to remember what had happened two seconds ago.

Tech shook his head and told Crosshair to aim for the snow bank next to the approaching droids, making the snow bank crumble and bury them beneath.

"Let's get back to the ship," Hunter said, his voice filled with relief.

"What is the name of the maker is wrong with her?" Crosshair asked, staring at Nadia who had fallen asleep with her head resting against Tech's leg.

"Long day," Tech said simply and began to drag her back to the ship.

I'd put the Mando'a translations here, but honestly I'm too tired to care right now.

Read the first part of this if you want to know what they mean.

Or just Google it.
