I tried making fluff, but it turned into ansgt.
At least there's some fluff in it too?
Tw: Violence(no actual gore, just fighting battle droids), vision troubles
"What are you doing? You're putting us all at risk!" Hunter yelled, making me flinch.
I took another shot, missing by a lot I guessed, based on how everyone started shouting at me. Crosshair elbowed me aside, shooting my target. I looked around, squinting, then aimed again, hitting... nothing.
"What happened? You take a break for a year, and you come back like this?" Crosshair scolded me. "You got rusty! You can't hit anything!"
I flinched away from his words. "Sorry. I needed the break though, my father was dying and I needed to take care of him."
"Once again, you have our condolences!" Tech popped up behind a rock, shooting a B1 down before ducking again. "He was taken too soon!"
"He was old though," Wrecked pointed out, barrelling into a pair of battle droids.
"That's what you say when someone's father dies!" Tech snapped.
"Thanks, Tech," I glumly said, ducking when Crosshair almost accidentally hit me with his blaster as he whipped around.
Crosshair ducked to avoid a well-aimed blaster bolt, and he shot one in return. I tried to shoot a droid, but missed, due to how blurry everything was.
"What the kark is wrong with you?" Crosshair demanded, pushing me behind a boulder for cover.
I stared up at his blurry form, and gave a short shrug. I lowered my gaze so he didn't see the tears forming in the corner of my eyes.
"Here's the data we retrieved. You need to process and translate it to Basic." Hunter held out a datastick. "We need it done fast."
I nodded and took it from him, inserting it into the side of my datapad. The text scrolled down the screen, and I read over it, letting out a little huff. "I should be able to handle this."
"We need it in two rotations," Hunter said. "It's important for the next mission."
My heart sunk. This was a lot of data to process, translate, then upload onto a new datastick.
Nevertheless, I gave Hunter a tight lipped smile. "Yes, sir."
He walked away and I buried myself in my work, reading paragraph after paragraph of words, my eyes growing strained and my brain growing foggy.
"Here," Crosshair interrupted me, "I got you this."
He tossed me a ration bar, and I ate it, working as I did so.
"What was up with you in battle?" Crosshair questioned, chewing his own ration bar. "Did you just panic?"
"Guess so," I mumbled.
"You'll get back into the swing of things," Crosshair said and patted my shoulder before leaving me alone again.
And so I buried myself in my work again, barely noticing when the others went to sleep.
I didn't have time for it, Hunter said I needed to complete this as soon as possible.
"Wake up early?" Hunter asked me as he stretched in the morning.
I murmured something and didn't look up, engrossed in the task he had given me.
"How's it going?" Hunter asked, trying to strike up a conversation with me.
"Fine. It's harder than I thought it would be."
"But you can do it, right?"
"Yeah," I answered. "I'll manage. It'll just take a little longer than I expected."
"We need it done soon," Hunter reminded me.
I nodded. "I understand."
Tech joined Hunter's side. "Do you need my assistance? You've had difficulties with this language in the past."
"I'm fine!" I sighed. "I can do this!"
Wrecker yelled something, and Hunter groaned and went off to figure out what he was going off about. Tech inched closer, staring over my shoulder.
"Are you sure you're doing this right? That's not a complete sentence. I doubt an important piece of data like this would have been left in a state like this," Tech said.
"I haven't translated the rest of it, okay?" I glared at him. "Let me do my work!"
Tech shrugged and took a few steps back before he said my name, drawing my attention. "I forgot to show you something!"
"What is it?" I impatiently asked, looking up at his blurry form.
He held something up, and I squinted as I tried to make it out.
Tech hummed. "It is as I suspected. You've been having troubles with your vision."
"What? No I'm not!" I argued. "My vision's fine!"
"Then what am I holding up?"
I hesitated, considering what it might be. "A flower you found somewhere?"
"Wrong. You need glasses."
"I can't afford them! I spent all my credits on medicine for my father!" I then added, "and you know how that went."
"What do you plan to do about it? Wander around without sight?" Tech asked.
"Yes. What else am I supposed to do?" I cried out. "Working for the Republic doesn't give you a health plan!"
Tech raised his voice. "Ask for help! You can't just put your life as risk by going to a mission, unable to see!"
"Leave me alone! I have to finish this by tomorrow, and my eyes are already so strained!" I yelled, not angry at him, but angry at the situation.
"Very well," Tech coldly said. "I was going to offer you help finishing, but I can tell you clearly don't want it."
He began to walk away, but I put my pride aside and called after him, "Wait!"
"Yes?" Tech asked.
"Can you help me please?" I softly asked. "I haven't slept in thirty hours, and all I want to do is shut my eyes and fall asleep."
Tech nodded and sat next to me, taking the datapad from my grip. "You get some sleep while I finish this."
"That's not what I meant! I just wanted some help, not for you to do it all! I can help!" I protested.
"Cyra'ika, you've already done most of the work." Tech laughed. "Let me finish it."
"I really didn't mean for you to have to do it," I guiltily said, the nickname flying over my head in my exhausted state. "Sorry, Tech."
"It's quite alright. Sleep," Tech said and pressed a kiss to my forehead.
I stood, blushing and wondering why he did that. I glanced back, but he coughed and wouldn't meet my gaze.
After I fell asleep, Tech searched for cheap glasses online.
