Chapter 27
Hana wakes me up two days before I'm due back to ANBU at the a truly horrifying time in the morning, eight. She ignores my pitiful groans of protest as she yanks open my closet. "Mm, thought so," she mutters.
The Haimaru brothers yank my blanket off me as Hana yanks me out of bed. "You need more clothes, Yoru. Your shirts are starting to get too tight and your shorts aren't fitting right. We're going shopping."
I bolt upright. "If my clothes don't fit me well anymore, that means I've grown! Fuck yeah!"
Hana giggles. "Just wait, you'll be able to fit into your Chunin vest in no time." She eyes me consideringly and hums.
"Yeah, you've probably grown like an inch since the Chunin Exams."
I snort. "Thanks," I say drily.
I dig through the depths of my closet for the oversized Princess Fuin t-shirt Hana got me last year for my birthday and a pair of loose sweatpants. If I have to go shopping, might as well be comfortable doing it. I head to the bathroom to get ready for the day. My hair is around mid back, so I should probably get it cut soon, I notice as I pull it back into a scrunchy.
I walk out of the bathroom and Hana snorts. "Okay, we're also getting you off day clothes that don't look like pajamas."
I stick my tongue out at her, noticing that Hana is dressed in cute capris and a red crop top that matches the shade of her cheek markings perfectly. "Not everybody can be a fashion icon, Hana."
"Yeah," she replies, "but you can look less like you just got up."
"But I did," I whine. She laughs and pulls me out of my house.
We go to a Shinobi store first for my new mission gear. I get a few pairs of loose running shorts for in-village workouts before moving on to mission gear. "Hey, Hana, I think I'm going to get pants for missions now." I call to where she's looking at some nail enamel.
"Fair enough, black or red?" She calls back.
I think for a second. "Why not go with both? Red on your index, black on the rest."
Hana nods. "Good idea! I'm getting green too, so I can do your nails."
I snort. "You could do mine with red or black, you know."
"Nah," Hana says, "Green is your color. It looks best on you."
I sigh and grab a pair of pants to try on.
My mission gear ends up both practical and fashionable. Tight black shinobi pants paired with a mesh undershirt and a black tank top make up the main body of it. I grab fingerless gloves to put on underneath my arm guards. My Chunin vest will go on over the tank top, and then finally my coat with the Nara emblem on it.
We head to a civilian store next. Hana hands me a pair of mid thigh shorts and a sea green sweater. I snort. "This is bringing back all sorts of nostalgia for my green hoodie." I snark.
Hana sighs. "I hate to admit it, but it was a strangely good look for you," she pauses and I wince, waiting for the insult that's going to follow. "Better than the look you have going on now, at least." Ok, not as cutting as I was expecting.
I somehow end up with three new sweaters in pastel shades, five new pairs of non-running shorts, and six multicolored t-shirts. Hana drags me to a makeup store next.
"I want to get red lipstick, so it will look like I painted my lips in the blood of my enemies," she tells me. The sales lady shoots her a vaguely traumatized look.
I bare my elongated canines at Hana. "Do it. You'd look fabulous." Needless to say, Hana gets her distinctive red lipstick that day.
Itachi slips through my window that night as Hana paints my nails green. I raise an eyebrow. "Team bonding sleepover at my house?"
"No shit, Hana and I planned it already," Itachi deadpans.
"You two really ganged up on me like this?" I ask in mock offense.
They look at each other then at me. "Yes," they say simultaneously.
"Hey, Hana, can you paint mine next?" Itachi asks as he sits on my bed to pet Sawagi.
"Sure! Black, red, purple, green, or clear?" Hana replies.
Itachi hums. "Black," he says like the goth he is.
Aunt Yoshino knocks on my door. "Dinner is almost ready you three!" She calls.
"Aunt," I call back, "did you help them plan this?"
She opens my door to wink at me. "Of course, who do you think told Hana you needed new clothes?"
"Betrayal all around," I say drily as Sawagi crawls into Itachi's lap.
"Sooo," Hana drawls later that night from her spot on my bed, "are we going to be stereotypical teenage civilian girls and talk about crushes?" I sputter as Itachi looks up from where he was snooping through my notes on jutsus.
"You do realize you two aren't civilians, and I'm not a teenage girl right?" He asks in a tone as dry as Suna.
Hana rolls her eyes. "Duh, but it'll be fun," she reasons. "Besides I'm giving Yoruka a chance to come clean about her amorous feelings about a certain somebody before Obito spills the beans to Itachi too."
I blush furiously, "Those traitors," I growl. "Fine," I sigh dramatically. "I have a stupid crush on Shisui and Obito and Kakashi are together." If I'm going down, I'm spilling the beans too.
Itachi blinks, "Well, duh. I've known about your poor life choices in thinking Shisui was attractive probably before you did. And Kakashi is always at Obito's house, so I've had my suspicions."
Hana starts laughing hysterically as I stare dumbfoundedly at Itachi.
