CHAPTER-VI

The waiter showed us our seats and gave us the menu.

"Sir, your order," he asked with a smile.

"Anna"- I glanced up at her and our gazes locked-"order for me too." I smiled at her. "I will try whatever you suggest."

Her eyes widened, "But-"

"Please. I insisted," I uttered whilst she blushed nevertheless gave our orders.

She glanced at me and I gave her a soft smile. She blushed and to hide it she began looking around.

"Dang it!" She uttered furiously through gritted teeth, her hands balled into fists.

"What's wrong?" I inquired and followed her eyes. She was looking at the group of men who are following us from before.

I placed my hand on her to calm her whilst she snapped her head in my direction and gazed at my hand which is laying on her with utter surprise.

"Sorry." I removed my hand from hers and a feeling of despair appeared on her face.

"It's okay." She put on a smile.

"Now tell me what's wrong?"

She gestured me to come closer and I leaned forward, "Those guys on our right. They are chasing us for quite some time," she whispered and I can't help but stare at her lips. Shaking my head internally, I leaned away from her as her chocolate and rose smell was playing with my senses.

Wow. She noticed them too. That's extraordinary.

"I noticed them too." I glanced at them from the corner of my eyes. One of the guys stood up and asked for the washroom.

"Give me your number." Her eyes widened while I chuckled at her cuteness.

"I am not asking for your bank PIN." Her cheeks became red in embarrassment as she lowered her gaze.

"Here." She forwarded her cell phone. I saved my number in hers and called myself to have her.

"I think he is here for me. I am going after that person to confirm it. There's nothing to worry about but in case...keep an eye on the others in the meantime." I gestured at the other two from my eyes.

"Call me immediately if you think something's wrong and I will come for you," I told her calmly.

"Don't worry about me. I know how to defend myself," she said with a smile.

"Be careful and call me. Okay!" She nodded. These are vampires we are dealing with. She doesn't even know what kind of danger they pose! They won't hesitate to kill anyone to get what they desire.

I opened the door and caught the scent of a human and him. I need to wait. As he came out, he glanced at me. There was a feeling of panic on his face for a microsecond before he masked it and started washing his hands. The man passed by me and washed his hand. I waited calmly as I pretended to wash my hands.

"Hello, can you please pass me some tissues?" He didn't look at me and pass me tissues.

"Have we met before?"

"No," he said instantly without even glancing at me.

"Oh!"

"I must have mistaken you for someone else." I smiled and he gave me a brief nod, wiping his hands. He glanced at me from the mirror but hastily averted his gaze when I look at him. The human man's phone buzzed and he strolled outside.

"You new here?" I asked him as I dialled on my phone. He shook his head and stepped to walk away.

"Hello, Leo. How are you doing?" His shoulders tensed and his foot came to a halt for a millisecond in mid-air before he resumed.

"Excuse me, you forget to pick your wallet, Mr. Valerius." His shoulders slumped and he slowly turned back.

Meanwhile, Leo chuckled on the other side. "It's not even a full day."

"My lord." He kneeled before me and bowed with his right hand at his heart while the left side was behind his back.

"No need for all this." I made him stand up and smiled at him.

"But how did you find out?" he asked bewildered. Leo chuckled again as I heard him opening a door.

"You haven't seen me before, then how?"

"I just do." I shrugged.

"My son," Leo spoke up and I put the phone on speaker.

"This is our giovane signore you are talking about. We don't call young lord for no reason," he exclaimed cheerfully.

"Yup," Victor joined in.

"You all are embarrassing me now." I gazed down as I shifted from one foot to another.

"I am just a normal being and nothing else."

"First of all, you got uneasy about seeing me, even if it was for a split second and when I asked you, 'Have we met before?' You instantly denied it, without even glancing at me which gave it all away." His brows knitted like he is recalling it.

"It is only natural to look at that person before answering. You never looked at me for once and your body tensed on hearing Leo's name which confirmed everything." He looked at me with wide eyes, realizing his mistake. I clapped his back smiling.

"Let's head outside. Someone is coming." He nodded and we both strolled outside.

"You have me terrified for a moment. You did great, keeping your distance but my radar range is a little bit far." I chuckled at my own words.

"Now you know where you fall. Come back home," Leo said sternly.

"It's alright, Leo. Don't be so harsh on him!"

"Pardon us, giovane signore. It was his test and it was decided they would come back immediately if you found out about them within a week."

"Okay. I need to go now."

"Bye and take care," Leo said and ended the call.

"Forgive me, Val, if I make things hard for you."

"Please, my lord. Don't embarrass me. I am grateful to you. Because of you, I got to know where I am wrong and where I need to improve." He gleamed at me as he bowed.

"I am pleased, I was of any help to you. Observe humans keenly, try to understand them, and above all think of yourself as one. It's the key to act like one," I told him as I smiled. He nodded delightedly as he gave me one last bow.

"For now, take care, Val." I headed to my table.

"Is everything alright?" She asked me as I settled down.

"Everything is okay," I assured her.

"Why were they following us?" She asked as she sneakily glanced at him from the corner of her eyes as he passed by us.

Val told them what happened and they glanced in my direction. They paid their bill and with one last smile and a brief nod, they left.

"What happened? Why are they leaving?" she asked curiously.

"Nothing much. He is an old friend. They were here for a test. Now that it's finished, they are going back."

"What!" she yelled knitting her brows in confusion.

"I don't understand a thing." She raised her shoulders pouting.

I smiled, "My dad sent them to look for me, without mine noticing them. They are going back as they failed to do so," I told her as I eyed the dishes before me.

"Oh!" Her eyes softened as she evaluated the information.

"What's that?" I asked her as I serve some of it on my plate.

"Your father sure loves you a lot. What about your mom?" she asked as I had just eaten.

"It's yupdduk. It's spicy," she told me as she licked her lips, recalling its taste while I choked on it.

"W-Water," I managed to say.

"Here." She handed me a glass of water and I gulped it down.

"More," I gushed as I gulped another glass of water. My eyes are burning and my vision becomes blurry as moisture gathered up in my eyes. I can feel my temperature rising.

"Sorry I didn't know you don't like spicy food." She apologized whilst slowly stroking my back. I took some deep breaths to calm myself.

"It's alright. It's not your fault. I didn't tell you before ordering." I smiled at her.

"My mom is not with us. She died whilst giving birth to me," I told her as I tried another dish.

"I'm sorry. I didn't know that."

"It's okay. It was her decision," I paused. I don't know why but I feel like the need to tell her.

"Doctors warned her if she gave birth to me she will die and she chose me over her. It's much about me, tell me about yourself." I gave her a soft smile. She stared at me like she was searching for something.

"Anna." I clicked my fingers as she didn't reply.

"Huh?" she asked as she came out of her daze.

"Where had you gone?" I inquired frowning. Her cheeks turned red before she gazed down whilst I smiled at her cute face.

"I don't know anything about my parents. I have some blurry memories of my mother but nothing about my father. Aunt Stefanie took care of me," she said gloomily as she played with her food.

"Don't worry. Everything will be fine." I assured her. She gazed up and smiled at me which I returned and resumed eating our food.

I know how you feel.

She ate that killing dish like it's nothing and her eyes are gleaming with pleasure.

Humans are intriguing creatures. Some can find happiness even in the worst circumstances while others having it before them try to look for it elsewhere.
