CHAPTER-II
The plane finally landed after seven and a half hours. Stretching my stiffened muscles, I walked towards the exit.
"Hey," Rich yelled whilst Evy waved at me as I made my way towards them. They had shifted here two years ago.
Richard Walker and Evelyn Walker are my only cousins. Evy is three years younger than Rich and is pursuing a degree in biotechnology from New York University whilst Rich works in his dad's company.
Dad's only sibling Aunt Emma fell in love with William Walker and shifted to NYC to live with his husband leaving dad all alone in London. After some years, dad came to meet his beloved sister in NY where he found his sunshine too; my mother, Ashley Smith.
I don't know much about my mother. I have heard a little from grandma, aunt, and Alberto.
"Hey, Ash. How was your journey?" Evy asked jovially whilst Rich put my luggage into the car.
I opened my mouth to speak but Rich beat me to it. "It's fun. He enjoyed it a lot. Right, Ash!" Rich looked up and locked his gaze with us.
"What do you expect from a long journey, Evy? Isn't it obvious? He's bored out of his mind," Rich uttered with a bored expression before rolling his eyes.
"Come on, dude. Let's go." We all took our seats in the car with me at back and Evy at the passenger seat. Rich started the ignition and the car roared to life.
"So dude, tell me-" he was interrupted by my phone ringing. I pulled it out and answered it without looking at the caller's ID as I knew who it is.
"It's that joven señor guy, isn't it?" Rich asked gazing at me from the rearview mirror. I nodded and he grinned, flashing his pearl-white fangs before putting his attention on the road.
"Has aterrizado Joven señor?Estás bien? Alguien ha venido recogarte todavía o sigues esperando ahí? Necesitas algo?" Albert flushed me with questions as he speaks in Spanish not waiting for me to answer. He only speaks in Spanish whenever he is worried or angry.
{"Have you landed young lord? Are you alright? Has anyone come to pick you up yet or are you still waiting there? Do you need anything?" } Above translation.
"Calm down, Albert," I muttered glancing outside the window.
"Pardon me, Joven señor," Alberto and Rich said in unison. I gazed up at Rich amazed and our gaze locked from the rearview mirror.
"From your expression, I can tell he said exactly what I anticipated." He grinned again before looking forward. I heaved a sigh before speaking, "Yes, I have landed and I am alright." I paused for a second and spared a glance at them before proceeding, "Rich and Evy came to pick me up and we are on our way there." I explained to him calmly.
"Give them my greetings and take care."
"I will." I hung up the call.
"Who are you talking with?" Evy asked and I looked up. She has turned slightly and is gazing at me with her big baby blue eyes. She has one earphone in and one out which explains why she was quiet.
"It's Albert. He said Hello to both of you," I told them.
"Why didn't you tell me before? I wanted to talk to Alberto," she said his name in a Spanish accent as she whined like a five years old child.
"Just ignore her," Rich said nonchalantly and the rest of the journey went in silent.
I gazed outside at the tall buildings as the sun descends glittering with lights. The buildings are alive with people coming out and going in. I closed my eyes and concentrated.
I heard two girls giggling as a lad said something; a child is crying nearby; people are talking about their works, some cursing their bosses and other stuff. The overwhelming smell of coffee filled me with pleasure as I inhaled and a smile appeared on my lips.
I love Coffee, coffee is my life. I will marry the girl who can make a good cup of coffee. It's okay even if she doesn't. I have Albert.
Our car came to a halt. I stared outside and found out the signal is red. The road is filled with different cars. I looked sideways and saw a couple kissing in the car. I averted my gaze and put my attention on a distant cafe. It looks good. Teenagers are hanging out there, laughing, gossiping, and eating.
My eyes caught a guy who was checking out a girl there. I huffed and closed my eyes. I waited for the signal to become green and every car roared to life.
After a while, the car again came to a halt in front of the two-storey house. They both leaped out of the car.
"Come on." Rich gestured me to come out and I did so. My eyes roamed around. It's a beautiful place. Most of the houses in the neighborhood are two storeys with a beautiful garden in front. Rich drew my luggage and strode inside with Evy tailing him.
I glanced in the direction where we came from before following them. The walls are icy white with different paintings hanging on them. Three big sofas lie between the room in a U-shape with a glass table at the center.
"I know it's not like where you used to live but I hope you will adjust," Aunt Emma said softly as Uncle Will joined her.
"Hello, Aunt and Uncle." I bowed at them.
"It's lovely. I like this place. Thank you so much for having me," I said smiling whilst Aunt Emma chuckled.
"You haven't changed a bit. You are the same sweet little boy." She pinched my cheek sweetly like she always does.
"Not a little boy anymore. He has grown up a lot since we had last visited him, hasn't he?" she asked Uncle as she smiled, her eyes sparkling with joy.
"Sure thing," uncle uttered and gave my back a clap. The unexpected impact pushed me forward but I balance myself.
"And strong too. Although he needs some more muscles," he added as he chuckled.
"Not to forget the hot and sexy part," Evy joined in and everyone snickered.
"Yeah, that too."
"Firstly freshen up and have something to eat, then we'll talk," aunt exclaimed gleefully whilst I nodded.
"Evy show Ash his room." Evy nodded and I followed her upstairs. After having a bath, I ambled downstairs and have dinner.
The dinner was nothing like I used to have back at home. They all were talking, laughing, and joking around whilst I was eating. It was so lively and cheerful.
Back home, I used to eat in silence with only Albert present.
"Good night Ash. You must be tired. Have a good sleep!" I nodded and exchanged my goodnights with them before heading to my room.
I tried to sleep but failed terribly so I decided to have a look around my room. It was a beautiful room with a bed against the wall. It wasn't like the one I used to sleep in, but it was comfortable with a wardrobe in its left and a window right in front of it.
Removing the curtains, I gazed at the night sky and was met with a smiling moon. It peeked inside before forwarding his hands to me. I accepted it and all the darkness from my room vanished away and was replaced by moonlight.
I smiled and was mesmerized by the beautiful sight in front of me. The dark sky was glittering with twinkling stars and it seemed like the sky has reborn and everyone is celebrating this auspicious event by dancing, twinkling. Everyone seemed cheerful.
One of the stars was shining brighter than others. It's Sirius which means glowing. A smile appeared on my face as I reminisced one incident of my childhood. I was so obsessed with this star when I saw it for the first time that I tried to catch it in my hand for several nights.
I was merely two and I had never seen something so sparkling that I thought it's a magical thing as whenever I tried to grab it, it slipped away from my hand.
Every night, I excitedly walked to my balcony in hope that I might grab it tonight but every night I got disappointed and halfheartedly returned to my room with the hope that tomorrow will be different.
On one cloudy night, I walked to my balcony tiptoed, and sneakily attacked on it with the belief that it hasn't seen me tonight. Balling my hand tightly, I gazed up to find whether it's there or not. To my misfortune, the wind blew the clouds and it got hid beneath them. I thought I had ultimately caught it and gleefully raced to my room but when I opened my hand, it was empty. There was nothing that made my heart sulk and I sobbed a lot after that and didn't even have breakfast.
When grandma asked me what's wrong. I told her about it with teary eyes. She keenly attended to me and giggled as I finished. I gazed at her amazed before bursting into more tears. Wiping my tears, she told me about stars and that my mother liked this star the most so God has made her a star and she looks after me from above.
Stretching my arms over my head, I smiled at my mother before going to bed.
I miss you so much, mom.
