07 || wakandan battle

"LET'S GO KICK SOME ALIEN ASS."

- Wakanda, April 2018-

The battlefield was set.

Alison was amongst the ranks of the Dora Milaje, standing beside Nat in a transport cargo, weighing all of her options as they glided towards the Wakandan barrier. She had her weapons- magic lightning bracelet and knife hidden in her suit, but was she fully prepared to step into battle? To be ready to sacrifice it all and put her life on the line?

Absolutely not.

But did she have a choice?

Not when the balance of the universe weighed on her decision and on protecting the mind stone. She had to do this, no questions asked.

Alison knew that there was absolutely no time to waste. Skipping over all of the pleasantries earlier when they had arrived in Wakanda, she had immediately gone all business on the Wakandans, completely ignoring the fact that Peter and Charles would have probably flipped out if they had known she had shook hands and exchanged some small science talk with Shuri.

That didn't matter though. Not when there was so much to do, and Shuri needed to get to work removing that stone out of Vision's head as quickly as she could. Alison was lucky that Strange had been the one waiting for her in her little space between time, because she had a feeling it wasn't going to be all sunshine and rainbows the next time she did so. At least, if what Strange said rang true in any way.

Shaking herself out of the nervous cloud of thoughts that were consuming her mind, Alison nervously went to straighten her ponytail out of habit, her usual mask not on her face. There was really no use here– not when a majority of everyone here knew her face. She just had the new nanobot suit Tony had created for her, glittering in deep maroons, navies, and hints of gold.

God, she really wished she had the time to break this thing in.

"I've got two heat signatures breaking through the tree line." Rhodey warned, breaking

Alison out of her thoughts, bringing her back to where the transports were slowly gliding to a stop. And out of the corner of Alison's eyes, she could see those two figures head towards the barrier, and her face fell immediately when she saw who they were.

Two goddamn children of Thanos.

She knew they would be here, what with the small glimpses of things she had heard over the comms after she had awoken from Skylar knocking her out (that did not happen this time around, instead the young adopted Stark getting dragged with Alison to Wakanda and into the mess).

But those bastards couldn't stay dead, now could they?

Ungracefully hopping out of the transport, landing onto the solid Wakandan ground with a stumble, Alison looked around her, running rather painfully to her position among the ranks. She knew her job- and that was to kick as many of whatever was coming at them's asses until she dropped. While also being as safe as she could.

Standing side by side with Natasha and one Bucky Barnes, Alison tried to remain as comfortable as she could standing among people who could whoop her ass onto the floor any day of the week. The only solace that the girl had was that Skylar was on a separate comm channel just for her, so she would be able to communicate with her friend while the skirmish would occur.

The loud chanting of a Wakandan tribe blurred out every other conversation in Alison's mind, the hyperfocus that she would get before a huge test or a journalism project washing over her. She was ready- whether she liked it or not- because she had to be. Taking in a deep breath, she could hear her heartbeat in her ears as Alison took in her surroundings.

"Thank you for standing with us." T'Challa muttered to the head chanting Wakandan man, shaking his hand with a grim expression. The man muttered something in Wakandan back at T'Challa, something that made the both of them grimly smile.

Seconds later, Alison saw Nat brush past her, walking with Steve and T'Challa towards the border, approaching the Children of Thanos. "Talk to me, Ali." Skylar's voice chimed through the comms, back in the Wakandan lab running point for the speedster.

"It looks like they're going for some- negotiation? I want to say negotiations with the aliens, but those bastards will do anything to get Vision's stone." Alison pressed her right hand to her comm, earning an impressed look of shock from Bucky Barnes.

"Language." The ex-Winter Soldier muttered in her ear, causing Skylar to laugh hysterically over the comm on the other end.

"But this means that there's only one outcome for this whole situation, huh?" Skylar asked, her tone so painfully grim over the small communication device that the two girls were using. Alison not giving a response, Skylar knew exactly what that meant. "Shit."

"Yeah." Alison muttered, letting out a hefty sigh as she took too deep of a breath, her midsection screaming in protest as she exhaled. The wound still burned, but after Bruce had heard about her idiot shenanigans of time travel, he at least had the sense to check on her stitches and fix the ones that had torn. He had also put some sort of numbing agent over it, but Alison had a feeling it wouldn't last long– especially if her side already twinged with pain. Ignoring the pain with a small hiss of discomfort, her eyes trained on the three heroes talking to the Children of Thanos. Suddenly, one of the aliens thrust their sword up in the air, the spaceships behind them sliding up.

Everyone braced for impact on the front lines, a serious yet fearful look hardened into the grooves of Alison's face. As the ground thundered, she could only worry about what the hell Natasha, Steve, and T'Challa could have done to cause such a serious reaction.

The three heroes joined the ranks of the front lines again, Alison hearing Bucky mutter words of worry to Steve. "Did they surrender?" He asked, Alison having the same exact question running through her mind. She, however, knew that the answer wasn't a good one.

"Not exactly." Steve grimly answered, everyone around the superheroes bracing for whatever would come through the treeline around the border. Turning around to stand by his best friend, his face resembled the poor news that he had just delivered.

Around them, T'Challa was calling a chant to the Wakandan troops, a very loud and clear chant that sounded along the lines of a "Yibambe!" Alison had no idea what it meant, but it definitely made her have a surge of fearlessness for just one second.

And, suddenly, the stampede hit them.

One drop of the Child of Thanos' sword, and herds of horrifying looking aliens started to savagely run towards the ranks of soldiers and heroes. "Looks like we pissed her off." Nat commented, her eyes flitting between the three other non-Wakandans in front of her.

"You think?" Alison scoffed, trying to keep her composure as she stared at the thousands of goddamn aliens that were trampling towards them. "God, this is going to be such a shit show." She muttered under her breath, unsure of how to brace for the attack.

But the attack never came.

Alien after alien ran into the Wakandan barrier, killing themselves in an attempt to try and enter the technologically advanced country. They were clawing their way through the barrier, their limbs falling off as they did so.

It was horrifying, Alison had to admit. Watching Outriders claw their way through the protective barrier to be chopped in half and killed before they even had the chance to hit the ground running. And horror was plastered upon everyone's faces as they realized what was going on.

"They're killing themselves." The general of the Dora Milaje, Alison faintly remembering Shuri call Okoye, muttered in horror, her eyes trained upon the enemy before her.

The heroes stood in shock for a moment before the Wakandan army promptly struck into action, using their intricate outerwear to create a protective shield around the front lines, all of them calling out commands and repeating them back to each other. Outrider aliens were finally beginning to break through the barrier, running with a wild and rampant rage towards the heroes.

Charging up their weapons, the Wakandan soldiers fired into the midst of battle, shooting down a few of the aliens as they came closer and closer. Bruce and Bucky joined in, one with the repulsors of the Hulkbuster suit and the other with a machine gun. Sam and Rhodey helped out with air support overhead, decimating some of the Outriders as soon as they broke through.

Explosions billowed up at the border as Rhodey dropped some bombs on the aliens in an attempt to destroy as many of them as humanely possible. However successful that attempt might have been, the heroes had another problem on their hands.

"Cap!" Bruce's voice echoed through the main Avenger comms, his tone rather concerning. "If these things circle the perimeter and get in behind us there's nothing between them and Vision." His huge Hulkbuster suit helmet looked at the Captain in front of him, worry obvious in his voice.

"Then we better keep 'em in front of us." The Captain sternly replied back, his voice stoic as he stared directly out at the aliens. They were, in fact, doing exactly what Bruce said that they were, slowly encircling the front lines of the group, trying to find a way into the protected Wakandan land.

"How do we do that?" Okoye asked, looking to T'Challa for guidance on what to do in the situation that had befallen them.

Contemplating his decision for a moment, T'Challa bit his lip in concentration. "We open the barrier." Pressing his own hand to his comm, T'Challa contacted his sister inside of the lab. "On my signal, open North-West Section Seventeen."

"Requesting confirmation, My King." Shuri replied, perplexment obvious in her voice as she repeated what her older brother had just requested her to do over the comm. "You said open the barrier?"

"On my signal." T'Challa confirmed, everyone looking around at each other in hesitation as T'Challa spoke. The tribe leader next to him looked anxious, and worried, exchanging uncertain words with Okoye, both of their eyes trained on the barrier.

"We sure about this?" Alison asked Nat, her eyes falling upon the blonde. Finding a stoic look of worry on Natasha's face when Ali asked her question, the girl sighed. She found her answer as Nat shoved a pistol into her hand, making the butterfly knife be resolved back into the nanobots that it had been created from. "Well that's just great."

Steve preparing his arm shields and Natasha pulling out her batons, Alison saw it a good time to charge up her weaponized bracelet, keeping the gun steady in her open hand. T'Challa yelled out another command to his troops, dropping the rank's shields as he advanced to the front of the group.

"Wakanda Forever!"

With the scream of a battle cry, everyone launched into battle, running towards the edge of the African country, the flyers right above them as weapons were raised and screams of battle cries echoed throughout the field.

Running just behind T'Challa and the first wave of soldiers, just in front of Bruce, the teenager made it her goal to run with the group and not streak on ahead with her powers. And thank god she did, because when the Wakandan King opened the barrier, the alien stampede was almost overwhelming.

But as she finally fell upon the alien enemy, lightning charged and ready to go, Alison found herself working with the Wakandan soldiers, sprinting around and helping deliver the last blow to the aliens with a lightning zap or a gunshot to the head (although Alison really had no clue how the hell she was aiming so well, Nerf guns her only real practice besides failing to shoot her Uncle's bow).

The rest of the heroes seemed to be doing just fine, Steve taking down aliens with his hand shields left and right, Natasha tasering them down with her batons. Even Bruce was doing alright, his huge size no contest for the Outrider species.

After another lighting zap that finished off another Outrider, Alison let out a heavy huff, hearing T'Challa's voice over the comm. "How much longer, Shuri?" He asked, his voice obviously strained as he found a short pause between fighting aliens.

"I've barely begun, brother. Even with Skylar's help, it will take quite a while." Shuri responded, notifying the team that the two teenagers were working together on this particular mission.

"You might want to pick up the pace!" The Wakandan King sternly replied, urgency obvious in his voice as he clawed another alien in the face into the muddy river ground in front of him. Letting out a fierce cry, he jumped back into battle, hoping that his sister could complete the job in time.

Alison, now in the middle of the battle scene in front of her, was almost overtaken by an Outrider, let out a cry of shock. "Shit!" She yelped, quickly firing a shot at the alien, finding the attempt futile. Realizing that she was out of options, the last shots of the gun gone, she threw the weapon aside. There was one option left and Alison held out her hands until-

Her fists phased through the alien, killing it within seconds.

"Yes!" Alison screamed with joy, happy that her plan had worked. Pulling her hands out of the alien's chest, she saw her fists covered in alien goop. "Gross!" She exclaimed, never more grateful for the fact that she wore full length gloves with the Breakout suit for this particular escapade.

Her victory was short-lived, however, as more and more of the Outriders swarmed the place. While her speeding around the field and quickly striking down the alien hordes was rather useful with her phasing ability and lightning strike bracelet, the aliens were coming from all angles. And even worse- the Children of Thanos had entered the battlefield, meaning nothing good for Ali.

"There's too many of them!" Bruce exclaimed, his Hulkbuster armor getting overtaken by a whole pack of Outriders, Alison turning around behind her to see one of the Children of Thanos directly in front of her.

"Oh, you've gotta be shitti-"

Suddenly, a huge rainbow beam blasted down onto the battlefield, knocking away many of the Outriders, causing the Children of Thanos to turn away and let Alison speed away from the situation, her eyes trained upon the beam. Who exactly could be inside of that?

Her answer came in slow motion as she was running, the rainbow beam giving way to an axe laced with lightning, coming out and killing multiple aliens that were in its path. And suddenly, the axe's owner emerged from the beam, revealing one very familiar God of Thunder, donned with- was that a walking tree and a raccoon?

The teenager skidding to a stop, the whole battle around them seemed to come to a halt as everyone recognized who had come from the rainbow laser beam. "Holy shit!" She exclaimed, her shock mixing with Bruce's gleeful laughter.

It was Thor, the God of Thunder.

"You guys are so screwed now!" Bruce laughed, his Iron Man helmet revealing a rather joyous smile plastered on his face as he gloated. Alison had to admit, it felt great seeing another one of the original Avengers join in the battle, maybe turning the tide on the whole day.

"Bring me Thanos!" The Asgardian god screamed as his whole body coursed with lightning, blasting him off of the ground, the whole sky becoming dark and cloudy as his eyes charged up with pure blue lightning. Thor raised his axe in anger, falling back to the ground with a thunderous effect, killing hundreds of aliens around him.

While the battle on the ground was going quite well, Alison was worried about what was going on upstairs in the lab. Tapping her comm twice to switch to the encrypted channel she had with Skylar, Alison let out a yell as she blasted back another Outrider. "Hey Sky, how are we looking?"

"Not good!" Skylar answered back, sounding rather antsy. "We're making progress, but it's not enough and not as fast as we hoped." She spoke softly, as to not stress Wanda, Vision, or Shuri out even more than they already were. "You're lucky Thor's down there with the assist, because we need even more time than you can give."

"Great." Alison groaned, speeding over to another spot where she saw... Bucky Barnes holding up a talking raccoon? They both were taking out the aliens around them, granted, but it was an odd sight to see, considering she was only used to aliens and superheroes.

Running past the strange interaction, Alison made her way over to where she saw Steve, zapping one of the aliens in front of him, nodding her head hello in acknowledgement of him. "Just touched base with Skylar. She said even with lighting Barbie doll Ken's help, they're going to need a lot more time."

"Barbie doll Ken?" Another voice boomed, Alison turning around to see Thor standing directly in front of her. Holy freaking crap, that was Thor, God of Thunder, looking directly at her. "And who would you be?"

"Alison Marnell." The speedster mock saluted Thor, seeing another alien in front of her, letting her arms phase through the Outrider. There was a sense of nonchalance as Alison watched the alien drop to the floor. "Resident super-speedster, and niece of Clint Barton at your service. Now if you'll excuse me-" She looked around her, seeing more aliens ahead. "I have some alien asses to kick." She sped away from the two blonde-haired Avengers, leaving Thor in a state of confusion.

"Is she always like that?" Thor asked Cap, who just gave him a shrug back. Noticing the different facial hair on Steve, the Asgardian gestured to the facial hair. "I see you've copied my beard." He laughed lightly.

"Nice haircut." Steve replied before turning behind him, seeing a talking tree in front of him, sticking his rooted arms through aliens like Alison had been doing seconds before.

"Oh yes! This is a friend of mine, Tree." Thor interrupted Steve's awe, confused on how there was a freaking talking tree in the middle of the battlefield. Thor gestured over to the small-ish stick with a smile.

"I am Groot!"

"I am Steve Rogers." The super soldier replied, gesturing to himself in confusion, wondering why a talking tree would only tell him his name. Brushing off the confusion, he ran off to find some more aliens overwhelming Wakandan soldiers.

Suddenly, there was a rumbling in the ground, the earth on the battlefield shaking as trees fell down in a fiery flame outside of the border. It wasn't long until the thing behind the shaking revealed itself, barrelling out of the ground with a fury unlike anyone had ever seen. They were gigantic Threshers, plowing through the crowd at such a rapid state that it startled everyone on the field.

"Fall back!" T'Challa's voice screamed over the comms, concerned for everyone's well being as the drills barrelled through the battlefield. "Fall back, now!" He yelled again, barely ducking in time to avoid the wrath of one of the Threshers.

"Focus the fire on the left flank, Sam!" Alison could hear Rhodey yelling at Sam over the comms, the two of them focusing on one of the drills coming straight down the center of the Wakandan field.

"I'm doing it!" The other flying man exclaimed, the familiar rat-a-tat of gunfire echoing through the communication device as they tried to take down one of the massive Threshers. They worked in tandem to try and take it down, but to no avail.

Back on the ground, Alison had found herself close to Natasha and Okoye, the three women fighting some of the aliens that were coming closer to the lab. Finishing up from decimating yet another alien, Alison looked up to see a huge set of Threshers headed straight for them, and she was about to scream in shock and brace for cover until-

Wanda appeared in front of the three women, her crimson powers forcing the drills into the air, the twenty year old looking behind her for a safe place to throw them. Finding the perfect spot within the aliens, she let out a grunt as the Threshers cane thundering down, killing all the Outriders.

"Why was she up there all this time?" Was the first thing that Alison heard after she recovered from the near death experience, seeing the Wakanda Dora Milaje general twirl her spear over in Wanda's general direction, earning a laugh out of Alison.

Turning around to fight more aliens, Ali thought that everything would be just fine- they had Wanda and Thor on the field now, after all. Maybe, just maybe, they could pull this through and actually fend off Thanos' army.

That was, until Alison heard Skylar screaming at her through her comm.

"Alison!" Her best friend yelled, horror and fright obvious in her voice. "We have a problem! There's another Child of Thanos up here and he's coming for Vision's- Oh shit-" Skylar spoke before cutting out, making Alison stop.

"Skylar?" Ali pressed her com, trying to contact her friend. "Sky!" Finding no answer, she looked up at the lab, hoping to find her friend looking down upon. But, unfortunately for her, that was not the situation she saw.

What Alison saw was Vision crashing through the glass windows of the lab, falling onto the battlefield below.

"Oh fuck it's that time."

"What time?"

Wanting to help her friend, Alison had to stop herself, knowing that none of this mattered anymore. Looking at Natasha for a moment, seeing the confusion in the Black Widow's eyes, Alison just gave her a shit-eating signature Breakout smirk. Offering her no explanation, Alison just grinned even wider as Nat's eyes widened in realization. "See you in a flash, Nat."

And she took off running.

 <~*~>

honestly did not expect to update this fast again, literally the only reason why is because i need to get these revised chapters out & then we can get to the fun stuff (mwahahaha endgame)  this chapter is shorter than the last so i apologize i just also absolutely despise fight scenes where i just have to insert a character in and go welp! that's that.

if you follow me on instagram i've definitely spoiled some stuff already about what the future looks like but hey! if you don't! that's your funeral when you read what happens eventually.

that's about it I just have a lot more time on my hands and have decided to release a bunch of stuff that I've been able to edit/write because now I'm writing for the third book and oh boy, is that a whole bunch of different bananas and barrel of monkeys

not much changed in this chapter so if it sounds familiar (sorry) but hopefully you get to have some fun soon xxx
