I just want to address this...
For those who say that Aro/ace people don't belong in the same community because they "don't experience the same hate"...
I don't understand?...
I'm a very patient person, at least I think so?
I'm not very quick to temper, but seeing stuff like this just makes me sad.
Trans and gay people don't experience the same problems.
And yet their in the same community together.
If they're talking about the severity of the problems, then I can sorta get where they're coming from.
I mean, we get hate, but not. Chase down the street and spat on hate.
It's more like the, sexually harassed and people saying "oh it's ok to touch them because I mean, I have to be the saving grace to save them from their disease." You know, not that bad.
Or getting laughed at and not taken seriously by your friends. Being told "you'll think differently when your older."
People not understanding and constantly making assumptions. The fear of being alone, or unwanted. The feeling that no one will ever want to be with you if you can't appease their "sexual desires." And being told that as well.
Whenever you finally get some representation, people are shooting it down in the comments like the plague.
Being told you aren't a "full functioning human being."
The media pressuring you to have sex, or be in a relationship.
Not to mention people who don't get it asking you very rude and downright bizarre questions about being ace/aro, when it really isn't much of their business...
You know... Not the same stuff as the rest of the community. Sure, sure. (Sarcasm....)
In the eyes of the church, we're alright, which sadly cannot be said the same for people of the lgbt+ community.
After all, being a virgin was considered very very good back a long time ago in the eyes of Christianity.
So I understand where they're coming from.
We have no right to say that we experience all the same problems in our lives as you.
We can marry, we won't be brutally persecuted for it. We can have a living. We don't have homophobes chasing us down the streets.
But really... Saying we don't belong in the community is rather harsh don't you think?...
We just wanna be loved and accepted by everyone else as well.
And whenever I see long posts about how we have no right to be in your community...
It makes me even more sad.
Because we do... Really.
That's what the A stands for in LGBTQIA+ stands for right? ^^
We're a loving community... But so many people love to hate...
Everyone in this community gets hatred because of one thing.
Love
Trans and non binary people just want to be able love themselves.
Gays and lesbians just want to be able to love another of the same gender.
Pan and Bi people just want to be able to love people regardless of gender.
Asexual and Aromantic people just want to love.... But in a different way that most.
Love for others, and ourselves is what makes this community strong.
But I'm afraid that hate might tear it apart...
Hate coming from the inside...
Be kind to one another? Alright...
Regardless of gender, sexuality, race, religion... We're all people.
And one thing that bothered me the most me was that one of the posts called out "cis straight asexual females" as most certainly not belonging in the community.
But once again, the A should prove enough that they do. And although they may not be as connected to the community as others. They still deserve love none the less.
