A, what Basil had heard referred to as a jet but it actually looked like pictures he had seen of fish but made of metal and flying, met them on top of the roof of their apartment building. He and Steve waited as it dropped down and the landing ramp opened up. A man in his forties, with a high hairline and dressed in a sharp blue suit walked down to meet them. He straightened his blazer and held out a hand. "Agent Phil Coulson", he greeted.
"Steve Rogers", Steve replied as he shook hands. "Nice to meet you". Steve was wearing his usual beige trousers, Basil doubted he had any other in a different colour, and a checkered shirt with a brown leather jacket. Boring and judging from they had seen of the way people had dressed on the street, old. Basil had decided that he liked modern fashion. The clothes were so colourful and breathable. Phillip had introduced him to online shopping and it was the craziest thing. So Basil was dressed in black skinny jeans, he had been pleasantly surprised to find that they were actually very easy to move about in despite their clinging form. (Clothes stretched now!!) He had on a white shirt with rainbow suspenders (He loved suspenders) and a black leather jacket on top. The doc martens, which where apparently what the boots were called, gave him about half an inch on height that he was very grateful for.
"Jahi Basilton Parrish", Basil grinned. "But I prefer Basil or Baz to my friends". He tried to shake Phil's hand but his hand went entirely through it. Basil sighed. "Sorry. Give me a moment". He concentrated and felt something change. With a triumphant grin, he shook Phil's hand.
"Greetings. If you would come with me. There's a packet for you to read on the jet". Phil turned and the two of them followed him up into the jet. It was a small aircraft. With about ten seats lined up in the back and the two pilot's seats up front. Steve sat down and Basil perched next to him as they were handed one of those holographic screens. As soon as they touched it dozens of files began flashing across the glass. Basil whistled as he began scrolling through it.
They read for ten minutes, eyes scrolling through the list. There was Tony Stark, who apparently had a metal suit and would fly around calling himself iron man. The red haired agent who had accompanied Basil to go and visit Phillip in London, Natasha, was apparently a kickass spy and assassin. Then they got to Clint Barton and Dr Banner. "We're about 40 minutes out from home base sir", one of the pilots called. Coulson removed his head phones and turned off the radio. When Basil looked out of the window, all he could see was the deep blue expanse of ocean beneath them.
"So this Dr Banner was trying to replicate the serum that was used on me?" Steve asked.
Coulson raised his hand to grab onto the handle bar in the ceiling as he answered. "A lot of people were. You were the world's first superhero. We didn't know about Basil being a product of the hydra serum attempts until we found you guys in the ice. It involved a lot of digging through old files until we came across a note written by Peggy Carter about you perhaps showing the symptoms of abilities".
"I didn't really tell anyone about what I was able to do", Basil voiced. "Peggy and Steve were the only people. And Bucky I guess but I didn't really start showing powers until after he died. At that point I didn't care about living much longer or being used as a government monkey, no offence Steve". Steve shrugged, not offended at all.
"Well Banner thought that gamma radiation might hold the key to unlocking Erskine's original formula".
Steve and Basil glanced at the video footage of the hulk on a rampage. (Video had colour now. That was very cool). "It didn't really go his way did it?" Steve muttered.
"Not so much", Coulson agreed. "When he's not that hing though, the guy's like a Stephen hawking". Basil and Steve gave him confused looks. "He's like a smart person", Coulson corrected. There was a pause as the man took a breath. "I've got to say. It's an honour to meet you officially". Basil grinned as he looked back down at the pad. He was used to Steve's hero effect ever since he had first joined the howling commandos. Steve offered Coulson a unsure smile.
"I sort of me you I mean", Coulson said. "Before. I saw you when you were sleeping. I mean, I was present while you were unconscious from the ice". Steve nodded as he got up and wandered round the plane to peer through the front window. "It's really just a huge honour to have you on board".
"Well I hope we're the men for the job", Steve muttered.
"Here here", Basil commented from the back.
"Oh you are. Absolutely. We made a few modifications to the uniform. I had a little design input", Coulson smiled. "We have one for Basil as well".
"The uniform?" Steve blinked. "Aren't the Stars and Stripes a little", he paused. "Old fashioned?"
"I'm not wearing and American flag", Basil exclaimed, getting up to join the conversation. "You guys are cool and all but I'm definitely not American. Oh and no stars. Definitely no stars. Did you put the English flag on my chest? Oh god I'll look like a sports fan. No no no". He shook his head quickly.
"With everything that's happening, with everything that's about to come to light", Coulson sighed. "People might just need a little old fashioned. And relax Basil. There is no flag on your uniform". Basil breathed out a large sigh of relief and Steve cracked a grin.

The jet flew them to some sort of battle ship in the sea. Coulson called it a helicarrier but to Basil it looked like a grey monstrosity. The jet landed smoothly on the flight deck and as the ramp opened up, a red haired woman walked out to meet them. Basil grinned as he stepped out into the light. "Natasha. Nice to see you again".
"Basil", Natasha smiled.
"Agent Romanov", Coulson introduced. "Captain Rogers and Corporal Parrish".
"Hi", Natasha nodded at Steve. "They need you on the bridge. They're starting to face trace".
"See you there", Coulson nodded as he left. Basil and Steve exchanged looks as they were left with the redhead. She began walking across the flight deck. Both men following her.
"It was quite the buzz around here finding you in the ice", she said. "At first they fought that they had only found captain America. But then they did a sweep the plane and found you", she nodded at Basil. "Apparently the crash had thrown you quite some distance back. They almost missed you. But then you were found alive and that just surprised everyone. I thought Coulson was going to swoon. Did he ask you two to sign his trading cards yet?"
"There's trading cards?" Basil asked.
"A card for each of the howling commandos, complete with little facts about you", Natasha nodded. "They're vintage. He's very proud".
"What are our little facts?" Basil couldn't help but ask. "Steve's said that his favourite dessert is apple pie. And yours said that you liked to sing show tunes". Basil chuckled, amused by that.
"Dr banner", Steve called. A man in his thirties was standing awkwardly next to a jet. He had dark curly hair and was dressed in mismatched clothes. He walked over as Steve held out a hand.
"Yeah hi", he had a different American accent to Steve and his voice was deep. He shook Steve's hand then Basil's. "They told me you two would be coming".
"Word is you can find the cube", Basil greeted.
Banner glanced around, hands clasping together nervously. "Is that the only word on me?"
"The only one we care about", Steves smiled.
"It must be strange for you, all of this".
Basil and Steve glanced around at the military site. There were men in uniform jogging in-line round the flight deck. The military hadn't really changed, despite the new tech and uniforms. "Actually this is all rather familiar", Steve smiled. There was a loud metal clanking.
"Gentlemen you might want to get inside in a minute", Natasha spoke up. "It's going to get a little hard to breathe". More metallic clanking sounded and Basil spotted the agents all beginning to head inside as messages called over the pda. Below them a motor began to hum.
"Is this a submarine?" He asked.
"Really", Bruce snorted. "They want me in a submerged pressurised metal container". They began to wander over to the edge of the flight deck to peer over the side into the sea, curious about what was happening. They watched with awe as a giant spinning propellor began to rise from the water. Around them, flight attendants were strapping the jets to the floor.
Basil let out a gasp as the whole helicarrier rose from the water. He watched as the sea surface slowly lowered beneath them. "Let's not crash this one into the artic", he muttered to Steve as they followed Natasha inside. Steve hid his laughter into his sleeve.
"That sounds like a good plan Baz".
