He could hear fighting. Basil turned his head. Steve was locked in hand to hand combat with the Soldier. The gun having been knocked aside and another knife in the Soldier's hand. Steve's shield was knocked aside with a clang and Basil watched as the metal arm forced the knife into Steve's shoulder. The blonde cried out in pain but twisted the blade out of the Solider's grip and onto the floor. His knee landing a particularly hard blow to the Soldier's abdomen. Basil sighed as deep as he could with a bullet wound right through his chest. Steve was holding out better against the soldier than he had. Obviously there was a plus to super strength.

He rolled over with a groan. The whole helicarrier was shaking. Through the glass he could see the other two start to collapse midair. The computing systems of all three targeting each other. A groan echoed above them and Basil pushed himself to his hands and knees. He looked up just as one of the support beams began shaking. He managed to raise himself to his knees as it toppled down. The beam passed right through him but there was a scream and a cry of pain when it landed. He turned. The Soldier and Steve were no longer in sight. He used the metal beam to shove himself to his feet. Half using it for support as he shuffled to where they had been fighting. A trail of blood dripping across the glass behind him.

"Steve!" He called. "Steve!" There was a crack and he watched as one of the glass panes shattered and crumbled into sparkles as it fell through the air. "Steve!"

"I'm over here", Steve pushed himself to his feet. His arm was twisted and obviously broken in at lest one place. Just judging by the shape under his uniform, it was not good. He grunted in pain as he sat up and swung his shield onto his back. At lest three or four broken ribs as well. Basil looked around for the Soldier. He was a few feet away. The beam had pinned him to the glass. Crushing him under it's weight. Above them another explosion made the ship shudder. The whole structure listing to the side.

Basil staggered. Half falling for a moment as everything tilted. "We need to get out of here", he muttered. He looked over to the Soldier again. The man, Bucky, was desperately pushing at the beam pinning him. The beam was too heavy for him to lift alone, even with a metal arm. He glanced back at Steve. Outside, the two other helicarriers crashed into the lake. Theirs was the last one in the air and it didn't seem like it would stay there very long. It was slowly going down, one side hitting the shield building with a almighty crash.

Basil staggered towards the Soldier. Steve at his side. The blonde wrapped his good arm around Basil's waist, helping him move. The Soldier glared up at them as they approached. He thought they were going to kill him, you could see it in his eyes. The distrust. Then Steve was letting Basil go and slipping his hands under the beam. He heaved, grunting in pain as his broken arm crunched. The Soldier pushed too and the beam moved. He rolled out and the beam fell back with a clang. "You know us", Steve panted, sweat dripping from his brow.

"No I don't!" The Soldier charged at them. His right fist hitting Steve's face with a crack. The blonde fell back, knocking Basil back too. They hit the glass with a painful thud.

"Bucky", Steve pushed himself weakly to his feet. "You've known me your whole life". The Soldier swung out with his metal arm and Steve hit the glass. Basil made a whining moan. He couldn't watch this.

"Your name is James Buchanan Barnes". Steve slowly got back up. The punch had knocked his helmet askew and he pulled it off. The strap dangling broken.

"Shut up!" The Soldier screamed. He hit again and Basil heard a bone in Steve's face crack. He winced at the sound and slowly rolled over. He didn't have the strength to push himself to his feet again. The blood was covering his clothes. Everything hurt and his vision was dizzy. Still, he managed to somehow get his knees under him and he began crawling to where Steve was standing. It was only about four feet away but it took every bit of strength to move forwards.

"I'm not going to fight you". Steve let his shield drop. It fell through a broken pane and disappeared into the smoke below. "You're my friend".

"Steve", Basil wheezed. Steve and the Soldier looked down as he rolled over to sit next to Steve's feet. His arms behind him, propping himself upright as he panted. He grinned. Bloodied teeth, pale skin and dirt covered face. Around them, the helicarrier shook again as something else explode. The whole structure was crumbling.

"I can do this all day", Steve muttered. He looked down at Basil, eyes set grimly.

Basil sighed. "I'm you're doctor Steve. As your doctor, I can't let you die because you refuse to give up. You can do this all day, but I'm not going to let you". Steve frowned at him then his eyes widened as Basil grabbed his ankle.

"Wait! Basil! Don't"- he reply was cut off as he went intangible. He fell through the glass and dropped out into the air below. Basil watching from above as he hit the water. When he looked back up, the Soldier was staring at him.

Basil smiled. "Hi darling".

The soldier took a step towards him. "You're my mission", he stated firmly. Basil coughed more blood onto his lips and laid back.

"I know". He was weak and defenceless. He could feel himself loosing consciousness. Blood loss and shock beginning to set in. But still he chuckled weakly and smiled warmly as the soldier straddled him. The man took one of his own knives from the sheaths on his waist and raised it. The blade glittered in the sunlight as fire lit him from behind.

"You're my mission", he repeated quieter. He looked beautiful. Terrible and beautiful.

"I know", Basil whispered. He wasn't going to defend himself. He didn't mind dying here if this was the last thing he'd see. He beamed and raised a shaking hand to his dog tags. The blood soaked pieces of metal slick in his hands. Names on the pad of his thumb. "Tell me a story Sarge", he murmured, eyes half shut as his vision blurred. Green eyes as bright as jade. "Tell me a story Sarge. Cause I promised you that I'd stick with you and Steve to the end of the line. For as long as I loved you Bucky". A shaking breath. "Tell me a story Sarge to help me sleep". Then his eyes slid shut.

The soldier watched, breath heaving as Basil fell limp under him. He still had the knife raised. The blade above his head. "Tell me a story Sarge". The words were familiar. Slowly, the blade lowered. His right arm dropping to hang limply at his side. Only the metal one holding the blade. He stared down at the dying man beneath him. The man was dying. If he didn't get medical help soon then he was good as dead. Was that mission accomplished? No, there was still Steven Rogers. "I'm with you to the end of the line pal", that voice was familiar too. Slowly the metal arm dropped until it too was hanging limply. The blade slipping out of his fingers and clattering against the glass.

"Parrish". The name falling from his lips came as a surprise. He didn't know where the name had come from. Rising from the depths of his mind. "Jahi Basilton Parrish. But my friends call me Basil". The soldier stared down at the man. Basil Parrish. His skin was pale and metal gleamed through the blood coating his chest. The metal seemed familiar, calling to him. The Soldier reached out his right arm and tugged the metal from the man's hand. Army dog tags. Two names. James Buchanan Barnes and Jahi Basilton Parrish.

The soldier let them go, mind spinning. Above them something else exploded. Another beam crashed down and the glass underneath them caved as the metal gave way. The Soldier grabbed hold as he slipped, dangling from a sticking out bar as the man slipped out from under him and fell. Limp form seeming to hang in the air for a brief moment before dropping. The Soldier watched as he slipped through the air. The sun catching on golden tinged skin and deep bronze tipped curls. Then the water swallowed him and he disappeared from sight.

The Soldier wasn't sure if it was a conscious or subconscious decision to let go of the bar. But as he fell through the air, he realised with surprising clarity that he didn't want the man to die. Why? He wasn't sure yet but there was something, a voice in his head, a distant feeling, a forgotten memory that made him want this man alive. The man had loved him. Bucky. The man had loved Bucky once. He had loved him back, once. Once, in another life. He hit the water and plunged down deep. Beneath him, he saw the tinge of golden skin and he kicked down.

Basil was light in his arms as he trudged up the muddy shore. The man's head resting on his shoulder was he walked. The man stirred as they left the water. Eyes flickering behind his lids with pain at the jolting movement. A half slurred murmur falling from is lips. "Sarge". The Soldier paused on the fresh grass of the bank. He blinked then walked further up so that they were a few feet from the water. Then he gently bent down and laid the man at the foot of a tree. Green surrounding him, head resting on soft moss. The brow, which had been furrowed in pain, relaxed slightly as the Soldier's hand gently brushed the soaked curls back. The action without thought.

The soldier stood and took one last glance at the man at his feet. He turned and glanced up the bank. Quite a distance away, a blue uniformed man was limping out of the water. He had his back to them and hadn't seen them yet. The Soldier looked back down at the man at his feet again, metal arm rubbing the white lines just below his elbow for a second. Then he was turning and walking away. Figure disappearing into the trees.
