Chapter 8: Laconic
"To think all this time I thought my trainer was pulling textbooks out from her ass." Completely tuning out Zel's very unnecessary comment, you stepped out of the elevator with your mouth agape. It was not that you loved studying, in fact, you hated it. Just the thought of the countless number of textbooks sitting on your desk at home ready to be read brought on an incurable headache. But it was that inside a demon hunting agency - which you had been working at for 2 years now - was a basement library. When Ten mentioned a library, you had imagined a small room with a couple of shelves of books, not an entire room filled to the brim with never ending shelves.
Inhaling the scent of books of old and new, you allowed yourself a moment to take in everything that was happening around you. Polished white shelves occupied three out of the four walls in the room, extending up to what seemed like oblivion.
You had never seen so many books in your life...then again you were living in the most technologically advanced era. It made you wonder why V.I.R.T.U.E still opted for physical textbooks.
Multiple step ladders could be found floating around the sides of the room, allowing visitors to climb up and explore the countless number of books out of reach from the polished marble floors.
The middle was just as breathtaking. There were a set of stairs running around the entire room which lead you down into the area decked out with tables, chairs, sofas, stools. All of the pieces of furniture matched the slick marble flooring, their white glossy coats glistened in the white lights.
The fourth wall was built of large filing cabinets, each with small individual labels ranging from categories to dates. You were already dreading the idea of searching through this place. And there didn't seem to be a librarian so you guessed you would have to figure out the layout of the library yourself.
You and Zel had wondered off your separate ways and agreed to meet up at one of the tables in the middle of the library.
Arriving at the first shelf to your left, you immediately got to work and scanned through the countless number of books. After only reading about five titles you were quick to realise the library was categorised in alphabetical order. Holding a finger up to your chin, your mind went through the possible letters the book you where after could be under. The Seven Virtues, Divine weapons, weapons, Virtue, the 5th dimension, origins of The Seven Heavenly Virtues, there were so many options you would be here searching all day.
"Are you after anything specific?" Hearing a very unfamiliar voice from behind, you pivoted your foot around to meet with a blonde headed male. He smiled kindly at you once he noticed he had caught your attention. His grin reaching his eyes, causing them to turn into two small crescent-like moons.
"A book about The Seven Heavenly Virtues." You responded with hopes of him being able to help you.
"Hmm." Moving his head slowly from left to right, the male finally decided on the right and gestured for you to follow. "Is there anything about them specifically you wanted to know?" His voice was silky smooth and reminded you of the lullabies you listened to as a kid to help with asleep.
"Their weapons." You say simply as a grin makes it way onto your face. It seems today was your lucky day because he seemed to know exactly where the book you were after was.
"Why are you so curious?" He asked whilst his eyes scanned the shelves for his desired book.
"Just looking to learn more about them. They seem to be the talk of the building ever since yesterday." You say.
"Well here is a book on the 5th Dimension." Halting his steps so suddenly caused the soles of your shoes to emit a high pitched squeak. You looked down to see if your shoes had created a mark on the expensive looking floors, however, your view was quickly blocked by a thick book.
Extending your arms out to take the book off the male, you couldn't help but let out a small 'ooft' when he placed it in your arms. It was heavier then you anticipated.
"Thank you..." Pulling the book up to your chest, you looked up and shot the male a thankful smile.
"Jimin."
Bobbing your head again as thanks, you finally noticed the lone book sitting in his right hand. "To think..I thought you were the librarian." Mumbling under your breath, you mentally read the title of the book he had picked out: Othello by Shakespeare. The site of the name quickly brought back childhood memories of studying a Shakespeare text in school. A memory you were trying hard to suppress. Shakespeare's style of writing sure was amazing but it was something you had trouble wrapping your head around as a kid.
Your statement caused him to chuckle softly. "Hahaha if only my life were that peaceful." There was something about the way he said those words did it make it seem like bore a much deeper meaning. But you brushed it off as you overthinking things again.
"So you're an operative?" You didn't want to seem like a creep but after looking at him closely, his attire didn't scream librarian nor did it scream scientist or weapons engineer. His wore a simple pair of blue jeans and a black t-shirt.
He simply shrugged before replying with, "you could say that."
Opening your mouth to say something in reply, you were suddenly reminded of the heavy book he so easily found. "Then how did you know where exactly this was?" You say before gesturing to the book in your hands.
He seemed to have hesitated before replying. "Let's just say I've read that book before."
Jimin was a mysterious man and his brief answers were slightly frustrating you. But on the other hand, you were thankful. He was just trying to help and his kindness was greatly appreciated. "Then could you sum up the context of the book for me? This book looks like it will take me a year to complete." He chuckled before nodding his head.
You were slightly shocked he agreed but none the less you shot him a thankful smile.
Finding a large table to sit down at, you opened the book dramatically. A small tinge of dread surged through you when you scanned through the table of context. There was so much you didn't know where to begin. You guess you did come to the library in hopes of helping Zel answer her never-ending questions about the origins so you had tostart somewhere. Dragging your finger down the table of context, you arrived at your desired topic and flicked to the designated section.
"What do you want to know?" Placing his book down into the table, Jimin propped his elbows up onto the table top.
"About the origins of the weapons and how they work." You murmured as you skimmed the context of the page only to come back with nothing. You should have known the information in the book was brief, the information given left a lot for the reader to assume. If the agency was so secretive about the secret unit then why would they have a book in their basement with all the answers?
"I can tell you now you're not going to find much in there." He replied nonchalantly, his head now resting on the palms of his hands.
"Then why did you recommend his book?" Voice dripping with slight annoyance, you looked up to the male in bewilderment. If he knew you wouldn't find anything then why recommend it? One minute he was practically dripping in sweet honey with his kind smile, melting your heart in the process. The next minute he was brief, mysterious and somewhat disinterested...to simply say you were confused by this Jimin would be an understatement.
"It's the only book in this library which relates to your topic. Information on the Seven Heavenly Weapons and Virtues are scarce." The tips of his lips perked up when sensing the annoyance in your tone.
Tilting your head to the side slightly, you eyed his figure suspiciously. He seemed to know an awful lot about the Virtues. "You seem to know a lot about this huh?" You say slowly and carefully.
"You could say that." His brief answers only made you even more suspicious. Who was this man and what was he hiding?
"Care to share?" Closing the book in front of you, you then proceeded to push it out the way before raising an eyebrow at him.
"My knowledge only consists of rumours." You nodded and gestured for him to continue. "Well, the Seven Heavenly Virtuous weapons are rumoured to embody powers of the seven Archangels of the 5th Dimension. After the first war the seven was left severely weak and in the last attempt to save their powers, concealed themselves inside their weapons. "
"Then how did they get here?" You thought aloud, now fully engaged in the conversation.
"A demon or angel probably opened a portal. To be honest, the reason they are in the 3rd Dimension still remains a mystery."
"Shit, if rumours get out to the public that we are using weapons from the enemies dimension we would be done for." You thought aloud after processing what Jimin had said.
"And what do you know about these?" Flipping to the next section of the hastily, it landed on a page with seven large images.
"The symbols of each virtue?" Jimin questioned after taking a better look at the images displayed in the textbook.
"Ye. I know they are supposed to represent the virtues in some way but I just can't put my finger on it, doesn't this here look like an eye, tale and nos~"
"JIMIINIEE!!"
"(Y/NNnnN)!"
Two voices harmonized, both equally loud and obnoxious but contrasting in tone. You quickly recognised the higher one to be Zel and the other was much much deeper. You turned to Zel with the intention of scolding her for shouting in a library only to find her not looking at you but at the other male who had called out Jimin's name.
You followed Zel's gaze and met with a tall male with vibrant blue hair. He wore a light button up shirt with the front of it slightly tucked into his black pants. A pair of circular framed glasses occupying the bridge of his nose, the frames heavily resembling yours.
"Why do you look so familiar?" Zel spoke bluntly once the two of them arrived at the table you were sitting at. Her claim only made the latter frown with confusion before allowing his eyes to eye Zel up and down. And that was when Zel's confused expression morphed into one of disgust. "You." Voice gaining its volume again, Zel stuck her index finger out and pocked Taehyung's chest roughly. "You're that cocky operative who stole our kill."
Blinking thrice, Taehyung's bottom lip jutted out as he tried to recall the incident he was so suddenly accused of. It only took a few seconds before his boxy grin transformed into a smirk. "Oh, I remember now."
That's right, this man standing in front of you was one out of the other seven Virtues; Patience. Now you remember, how could you forget?
"Yeah, you remember? I don't get how V.I.R.T.U.E could choose such an egotistical person as a Virtue weapon wielder." Scoffing in disgust, Zel retracted her finger and wiped it on her shirt as if she had just touched a piece of garbage. You were just about to scold her but it seemed Taehyung beat you to it. This girl really didn't have a filter on her mouth.
"If I remember correctly your only a trainee." He spoke before diverting his attention to the blonde sitting in front of you. "Director Kim needs our assistance."
"Okay." Was all Jimin said before jumping up from his seat. Both of you exchanged small smiles just as the pair disappeared behind the glass doors.
Now with them out of the way, you hastily turned around to face a speechless Zel. "Zel watch your mouth. You could get in trouble for talking to a Virtue like that." Picking up the now useless book, you stood up from your seat and traced your steps back to the origins of the books.
"I don't give a flying crap. " Completely ignoring your warning, Zel followed behind you in anger. "Just because he is of higher class doesn't give him the right to be douche about it."
As soon as you placed the book back into his rightful place, you turned around and latched onto Zel's tense shoulder. "Relaaaxxxx." You say before messaging to them, her scrunched up features immediately relaxed. "How about we go for a snack break?" She was quick to hum in agreement.

Although it may be too early for you all to choose I have a very important question for you all. Since this is a ot7 x reader there is no set love interest for the main character yet. Unlike my other books where I have pretty much only explored one BTS member in detail this book is different. We get to explore each member in-depth and we get to see her relationships develope with each member. So the all-important question is: who do you want the main character to be with romantically or do you not want a romantic relationship at all? Let me know
