Chapter 7: Gossip

Feeling something sitting in your grasp, you opened your eyes to a small bunch of purple lilies. The once beautiful flowers you used to buy every month wilted within seconds right in front of your eyes. The vibrant purple petals and green stem were quick to soon disappear into ashes.

Opening your hand in astonishment, you flipped your hand around to see the flowers now nowhere to be seen.

An expression of confusion soon formed as you finally looked up from inspecting the palm of your hand. The first thing you were greeted to was fire. There was fire everywhere, your gaze lingered on skyscrapers, apartments, grocery stores...none where intact.

What's happening?

You automatically reached for the spot your trusty rifle always sat only to find it gone. You hastily turned around in search for the sash which usually secured your weapon gone along with it.

A male holding tightly onto his child then quickly caught your attention. You only saw it you didn't hear it. The only thing you could hear was an increasing high pitched sound that gradually began to become louder and louder as you continued to take in the situation.

The child which was being held by the man was crying with his index finger pointed towards a pair of tall gates.

Immediately recognising the dark green gates you frantically ran towards it, desperately grabbing onto the bars you began to shake it roughly in an attempt to get them open. Although it was no use, they wouldn't open.

Turning around to the now ruined city, you pushed through the panicked citizens. Walking in the opposite direction of all the bystanders, you were pulled back countless times by many. One even grasped onto your shoulders and began yelling something. However, it was rendered useless as you couldn't hear a word they where saying. Once realising you where unresponsive they left you.

Unaware of what was going on, your first instinct was to head to V.I.R.T.U.E headquarters.

The high pitched sound seemed to have finally stopped as a loud crash graced your ears. You immediately whipped your head in the direction of the sound and to your horror, you watched a fireball hitting the apartment complex next to you.

Being an operative, your first instinct was to grab whoever was near you and yell at them to duck. You hastily engulfed a male and female next to you and pulled them to the floor before retracting your arms and holding them on top of yourself to shield the falling derby of the building. You winced your eyes shut and~

"Shit!" Losing balance on the slim bench, the small flinch you had done in your sleep caused you to fall face first onto the floor.

"Geez (y/n) are you okay?" Hearing Taeyong's worried call, you sat up from the floor and blinked rapidly. You gave your eyes a few seconds to readjust to the dim lights of the training deck. Taking a look at your surroundings, you found the room to be intact and your rifle sitting on the floor next to you. It only took a few seconds to realise what you had just witnessed was a dream. It must have been the result of your lack of sleep and restless thoughts about the tattoo.

You would think finding out the meaning of the tattoo would put you at ease. After a whole night of tossing and turning, that was what you desperately needed but it seemed it only made you even tenser. So tense it had somehow haunted you in your sleep.

"You look exhausted, here." Brows knitted in concern, Zel analysed your pale face before handing you a red apple.

All your sense where slowly beginning to come back to you after your intense dream so you took the apple off Zel. You finally acknowledging the three worried figures looming over you. The three seemed to back off when seeing you responsive to Zel's calls. You looked very dishevel after waking up from your sleep state so they decided to leave you alone a bit so you could collect yourself.

"Thanks." You took a bite out of the only healthy food Zel seemed to have picked up from the convince store. A loud crunch joined the symphony of potato chips being chewed. Your gaze remained glued to the lines on the floor as you mindlessly shook your left leg restlessly.

You and Ten had a night patrol scheduled for tomorrow night so you would just have to wait and see. It wasn't that you were eager but ever since Taeyong had broken the news the feeling of dread still did not pass.

You couldn't help but think that there was something you all where missing in the puzzle. Something you all maybe have overlooked. You hated the fact that you tend to overthink things at times. It made your personality very timid. You are constantly blaming things upon yourself when something doesn't go well and over-analysis missions or patrols.

Adverting your gaze from the floor, you lazily looked around the room. Wanting to distract yourself from the mass amount of thoughts running through your mind, you decided to draw your attention to your surroundings. There was nothing new. Zel and the others were still perched on the benches, mouth full of various junk foods. The window revelling the outside corridor didn't show much. The training rooms were beginning to empty as the time slowly continued to tick towards lunch time. All the operatives seemed to have finished up their training sessions and heading up to the cafeteria with their friends. Now you saw no one through the large glass window on the sliding door.

Taking another bite out of your apple, you were about to continue to look at your surroundings until your eyes landed on a familiar set of hair. However, their name was at the tip of your tongue and you couldn't seem to remember where you had seen it from. That was until he turned around to sling his backpack over this shoulder.

Champion Jeon Jungkook. Tilting your head slightly to the side, you watched his unfamiliar shade of purple hair hastily disappear out of sight. It reminded you of what you saw when arriving at the headquarters this morning...now seeing him in the corridor, it only made your theory even more possible.

Turning your gaze from the door, you were about to turn to see what the others were up to until a hand roughly came in contact with your thigh. This frightened you nearly out of your seat and resulted in you swatting the hand away.

"Stop shaking your leg, it's driving me nuts." Gesturing to the packets sitting now on the floor, Zel pointed at them dramatically.

Realising what your anxious state had caused you immediately stopped your shaking and sent her an apologetic smile. "Sorry."

"(Y/n), are you okay?" Repeating Taeyong's question, Zel swiftly picked up the chip packets and looked at you with worry.

Blinking twice at Zel's odd question you shot her a puzzled expression, "I'm fine? Why?"

"Well, you see." Zel began. "You woke up quite abruptly, did you have a weird dream or something?"

Sighing, you clearly recalled the scene you had just witnessed in your sleep. "It must have been or something because it defiantly didn't seem like a dream." Ten was also worried about your state so he took a seat next to you on the floor.

"I must have been worrying about the tattoo too much." You shortly replied. You were not one to usually voice your concerns or worries. In - much - contrast with your good friend Zel, you preferred to keep things to yourself. "But my subconsciousness took it to a whole new level." The drop of your tone when you had said the last sentence made Zel shiver.

"Well while you were sleeping we were discussing The Seven Virtues." Zel said after recovering from her shiver. Her tone now much more light and playful. You knew she was trying to change the subject to distract you.

"Discussing? More like gossiping." Taeyong chuckles before sending Zel a knowing smirk.

"I'm not even going to deny it." Zel says whilst holding her hands up dramatically.

"No shame." You tutted as your head shook in disapproval.

There was no doubt that Zel loved gossip her gossip. She really had no shame when gossiping about others. She was such a loud mouth and often could care less if the person she was gossiping about so happened to walk past and overhear. You often would often fall victim to being held captive for a few hours on the phone as she ranted about what had triggered her recently online. You would simply listen and occasionally add in a response such as: yep, oh really, okay...let's just say you weren't much of a fan.

"Okay, but you can't blame me. There is hardly any gossip within V.I.R.T.U.E. So when the director confirmed the existence of the unit it was like Christmas had come early!" Jumping up from her seat dramatically, Ten watches in horror as multiple chips from her chip packet fell to the ground.

"Stop wasting food." He bluntly said which quickly caught Zel's attention. She gasped loudly before picking up her now spoilt snacks off the floor.

"Don't you dare put that in your mouth." Shooting her a warning glance, you watch her pout.

"My hard earned money wasted." Moving to put the chips into the bin, Zel quickly pivoted around and sat cheerfully back onto the ground. She was such a child. "Anyways, let's go back to the topic of The Seven Virtues." Tuning out as soon as you heard the word 'anyways ' escape Zel's mouth, your mind drifted off to ponder upon the idea of Jungkook being one of the Virtues. You weren't usually the one to stick your nose into anyone else's business but all this talk about the secret unit has even got you all riled up.

"(Y/n), got anything?" Bringing you back from another one of you long trains of thought you turned to face the direction you name was called in.

"Hm?" Looking up at Zel curiously, you blinked twice signalling for her to repeat what she had said.

A low sigh escaped the female's mouth before saying, "have you heard anything about The Seven Virtues?"

Finally processing what Zel had asked, you let out a long 'oOoohhh.' "Jungkook?," was the only word you managed to get out of your apple filled mouth.

"What about him? Is he a Virtue?" Practically leaping out of her seat in shock, Zel leaned in towards you with anticipation.

"I mean, he might be?" You began after swallowing your food. "And he might not be. I just saw someone training in the training deck this morning that resembled his fighting style...then again he could have been anyone." Now that you had finally said your theory out loud it started to make less sense. Considering the fact that the director had trained a few agents in the past, there was a high chance it was someone else.

A long pause of silence fell on the group as they all contemplated the likelihood of your theory.

"I can see it." Ten voiced earning a head tilt from Zel in response. "I mean he is a champion, he would qualify."

"Then why isn't (y/n) a Virtue?" Zel added with a puzzled tone.

"I think it has something to do with the weapons?" Taeyong answered, his tone questioning his own statement.

"Have you met (y/n)? She is pretty much the embodiment of Chastity."

Whipping your head in Zel's direction, you opened your mouth to respond but soon closed it. You didn't know how to respond to that. Where you suppose to feel offended or pleased with Zel's statement?  "Chastity is more than just being innocent minded Zel," was what you decided to reply with.

"If you guys want to know more I'm sure the V.I.R.T.U.E library with have the answers you are looking for." Ten said casually as if it was normal for a demon hunting agency to have a library within their headquarters.

"Wait...we have a library?"

.

Little Jungkook running off to join Jimin for breakfast lol. Hahaha anyways, hello loves! Do you think Jungkook is a Virtue and if who which one?

Sorta a filler-chapter but still had a few important hints, I hope you guys liked it. My holidays are coming up in 2 weeks so hopefully, I will have time to write more, look forward to some more updates :)
