Chapter 28: Rain
The day was gloomy but maybe that had to do with what time of day it was. It was six in the morning and you were up early, already out and done with your first task of the day. It was supposed to be summer but the birds weren't chirping and the suns warming rays no were to be seen. The dark clouds floating in the sky drown out any chance for the sun to make its appearance and lighten up the gateway you were leaning against. You suppose seasonal depression was true. Ever since your run-in with the doctor and Jungkook you hadn't gotten a wink of sleep. Your nights had been spent tossing and turning at home with multiple questions floating around in your mind.
Wanting to clear your mind from your worries, you thought that perhaps going to pay a visit to your mother would help but alas, it seemed the world had other plans. Heaving out a sigh, you allowed your gaze to wander over to the lock, preventing you from going inside and to see your mother. You contemplated whether or not to just kick it open. The lock was old and rusty, the chain that came along with it was in no better condition. You had to shake off the thought, as you hear a car drive past the desolate roads behind you. There were no cars this early in the morning, making the atmosphere around you seem eerie. You knew it wasn't a very smart idea to be wandering around this early in the morning with the gloomy clouds, the weather was perfect for demons to be wandering around freely. Frankly, you didn't care, you just wanted to clear your mind. It was pointless anyway. For some reason, the gates were locked today so there was no way of seeing her.
Your eyesight wasn't that great but by squinting your eyes, you could pinpoint exactly where the smooth marble plague with your mother's name engraved on it stood. She was so close yet so far.
Drawing your lips into a thin line, you mindlessly stared at the concrete footpath and began to shuffle the weight of your body from left to right as you allowed your mind to slip back to the memories of that day.
It was much like today in fact. It was right at the peak of a heatwave and the humidity was becoming unbearable. But thankfully, your little self was tucked away inside of the headquarters building with your parents as they worked mindlessly. You remember whining about how bored you were to your parents, only to get brushed off and asked to go and entertain yourself by sorting out the nuts and bolts case.
At the age of four, you had no idea the importance of your parent's jobs let alone what they were doing. You tried to pout cutely in hopes of maybe hitting their soft spot and gaining some of their attention but on that day it just didn't seem to work.
You remember giving up on gaining their attention and turning to plop yourself back onto the smooth floors. In front of you laid a box of carefully sorted nuts and bolts of all shapes and sizes. You had sorted them so many times that day the ordering and size of the metal objects were still ingrained in your mind to this day.
Going back to examine the nail for the fifth time of the day, your attention was cut short when out of the corner of your eyes you spot a pale hand reaching out to grab a nail but in a different size.
Thinking it was your mother or father, a childish grin took over your pouted features as you looked up. But what you were greeted with was not your mother or father. Starring at the figure curiously, you remember the distinct features of the creature to a tea. His eyes were silver in colours which complimented his hair and a pair of black feathers wings was folded behind his back.
"Why is she staring at me like that?" Tilting his head to one side with curiosity, the male looked directly into your eyes. "Can you see me little girl?"
You were expecting a creature which looked like that to speak with ill manner and for his voice to be coarse. Similar to if you were to drag a set of long fingernails across a chalkboard...but it wasn't. It was quite the opposite, in fact, his voice was soft.
"Yes, can't everyone?" Tilting your head and mimicking the way his head tilted to one side, you discard the nail to one side now with all your attention on the mysterious figure sitting in front of you.
"Not unless your special." He smiled kindly at you before raising his finger and tapping your nose. His act caught you off guard and you crunched your nose because of it.
"I'm nothing special." You began. "But you are!" Pointing to the large set of wings sitting behind the males back, you eyed them with much admiration. "You've got wings."
"They aren't that special." Following your finger to his wings before he fluffed them out slightly, earning a gasp of excitement from you.
"But then you don't need to walk and you can fly anywhere you want." You retorted. "Can I see them?" Jumping up from your position on the floor, you shot the demon a pleading look. He shook his head at first but once he realised how excited and fascinated you were he reluctantly agreed. Standing up to join your side, you momentarily witness his eyes wander to gaze upon your parents and then to yours. A nervous smile gracing his lips in the process but of course, you were too young to notice that.
"How about I show you outside? It's too tight in here." Grabbing ahold of your small fingers, you nodded eagerly and allowed his fingers to intertwine with you so he could lead you out of the room.
Snapping back to reality, you feel something wet fall onto the bridge of your nose. The water droplet which was resting at the tip of your nose caused you to lookup. Feeling another droplet fall onto your eyelid, you closed your eyes and let out a shaky breath.
You never knew if that demon was a figure to your imagination or if it was real as when the accident happened the ambulance found you passed out in the middle of the corridor. But if it wasn't for him, you may not be here today.
The rain was slowly getting heavier, reminding you that you needed to get going.
Of course, whenever there were dark clouds there was rain. You didn't mind though, the rain was soothing to you. You liked the sound it made when it would hit the roof, it was calming.
"(Y/n)?" Cutting through the silence of the rain like a knife cutting through a stick of butter, you looked up. Your eyes widened as your eyes focused on the figure standing in front of you who had called your name.
"Jungkook?"
Why does he seem to be everywhere you go?
.
The water droplet continued to fall as the masked figure sat perched on top of a tall pole, watching over the cemetery in caution. The sky was dark and the raining didn't seem to be giving up anytime soon, perfect weather for demons to be lurking around, especially in a cemetery. Turning his attention his partner with the intention of catching his attention only to find him distracted by two figured standing at the front gate.
"Jungkookie?" Readjusting his position on the pole, the lion masked figure looked closely at the figure. "(Y/n)?"
"Concentration Tae, what we are doing is as illegal enough as it is, if we are spotted talking with them w~"
"I know." Drawing in a deep breath, Taehyung refocused his attention on monitoring the cemetery in front of him. He knew Yoongi was right - he~they couldn't be seen talking to the two of you. It was difficult enough for him and Yoongi to get a confirmation from the government to allow them to continue living together but if they were to be spotted with the two victors it would stir a new mountain of trouble.
Although Taehyung had said to Yoongi that he would refocus his attention back to surveying the cemetery, he was anything but alert. "Taehyung eyes up!" It had only taken a meer second for Taehyung to react but unfortunately, it was not fast enough as he was knocked to the group with a thud, causing him to release a loud grunt. "For Overworld's sake." Yoongi cursed before jumping down from his pole and pulling out the dagger hidden under his jacket.
As soon as Taehyung came to, he had realised the situation he was in and quickly tried to kick the demon where the sun don't shine...but it didn't appear to affect him at all. The demon simply chuckled at his weak attempt and grabbed ahold of both of Taehyung's arms, pinning them back and preventing him from moving.
"Not so tough now without your weapon, huh Virtue scum." The demon taunted before moving forward, "your soul smells wonderful." But before the demon could go any further, Yoongi stabbed the demon in the back and drew his blade down, creating a large gash. This caused the demon to let out a loud cry and advert his attention to behind himself. "Hahaha, we are no what we are not what we used to be precious Diligence." Eyes widen in horror, Yoongi quickly pulled the blade out from the demons back as it healed in almost an instant. That was near to impossible, demons of use low class should not be able to heal that quickly.

Hi bubs, a lot of you were asking me to update and I was trying my very best and here it is. I hope it didn't disappoint. I'm soooooo sorry it was such a long wait, updates are going to be exceptionally slow now as I said in my last update. For some reason, I don't find as much inspiration from writing or joy. I've been going through this phases where I randomly get inspired and that's when I'm able to smash out a chapter.
I have been working on a new story and its a completely new genre from Ascendant and Hitlist. I know a lot of you love the sci-fi genre but I really hope you guys will love the new genre. I think apart of my lack of inspiration is that Ascendent has been in writing for over 2 years and although I love this story and the characters, I find it really had to connect with a story I plan over 2 years ago. I am hoping that writing with a clean genre or slat will help me get my mojo back. I don't wanna set a release date for the new book and I don't want to make any promises as of yet. But I am trying my best to make it happen.
ALSO thank you all for all the lovely messages, you all are always supportive and that's what makes me want to continue writing. I can't thank you all enough for the support.
But that's enough from me. Dam that was a long author note, until the next update. Stay safe and I love you all.
