Chapter 26: Revival

The defending sound of a blade coming in contact with flesh echoes through the dark secluded streets of South Korea, the silver blades shining brightly under the moonlight.

The creatures knees fell to the floor with a loud thud, the rough concrete piercing through its pale disguise. The energy required to heal his wound was too much for him to bear and as the masked male expected, the human-like appearance of the demon melted away.

The demon clutched his wound, but it did little to nothing as its body was evidently turning into fine grains of dust. The demon made an attempt to shuffle away from another impending strike from the male but he was abruptly stopped when the tip of an arrow was placed at his neck.

"Taehyung may have been nice, striking you in the least painful spot...but I can promise I won't be the same." Yoongi tightened his grip on the handle of his replacement crossbow but no matter how many times he wielded it, it didn't feel the same. After many years with the Diligent crossbow, Yoongi had gotten used to how the handle sat perfectly in his grasp or how effortlessly it pierced through his target. His black-market replacement could hardly match up to the virtuous weapon. The grip was awkward and it took a few tweaks before the arrow was strong enough to even make a dent into a demon's flesh.

Pulling off his cat-like mask, Yoongi frown at the demon. "What do you want hunter? I thought you all went extinct a year ago." The demon's cheeky statement caused Yoongi to apply more pressure to the demon's neck.

He didn't like talking about his past, especially when it was with a creature as sinful as a demon. "What are you all planning?" Narrowing his eyes at the creature, Yoongi glared at the latter.

"That's for me to know and for you all to find out." The demon chuckled, the brief replies had Yoongi growling in anger. "Kill me, there are plenty more like me out here anyway. And there are plenty more out there who hold greater then I do." The demon tilted his head tauntingly to the side and awaited Yoongi's next move. "The sins are coming and you can't do anything to stop them."

.

Today had been long and stressful. Your co-worker had called in last minute with a cold so this meant you had to manage all the orders and the shop by yourself. You would think, after over half a year of working in this shop rearranging flowers meant you would be good at the art of Ikebana. You had both hand and eye coordination on the battlefield, however, a bouquet or vase of flowers was a completely different story.

You had only been able to create presentable and sellable displays with the guidance of Soomi but it seemed without her you were as useless as an Imp on a battlefield of fallen angels

You hard tried getting help from Soomi over the phone but her blocked nose and corse throat made it near to impossible to understand her. You had only managed to stick two gardenias into their rightful spots before you frustratedly threw a block of floral foam across the store. This was when you gratefully thanked Soomi for all her help and hung up the phone, leaving you alone to try and figure out the art of floral arrangements.

It didn't make any sense to you. You had been working for years on your fingers coordination at V.I.R.T.U.E. In fact, you had spent a good half-year focusing your training on mastering different knife tricks with your fingers. Maybe it wasn't the fact that you had terrible finger coordination but the fact that you had no eye for beauty.

You had been bought up by your father after your mother passed with no other female figure. This inevitably left you to figure out the horrendous task of makeup and fancy dresses yourself. You weren't all that bad at dressing yourself - the training gear you had to wear for V.I.R.T.U.R.E was considerably the only thing you used to wear - but after getting Zel's approval, she deemed you passed as a tomboy.  Although you had successfully developed a somewhat stylish fashion sense, the art of makeup still remained as a mountain you had yet to conquer. The last time you had tried to put on makeup, you had managed to draw a long black streak directly onto your eyeballs...that was enough for you to put climbing the mountain on hold. You had finally revisited the said mountain but ended up with pink eyeliner, green lipstick with blue eyeshadow. Let's just say Zel's never let you touch another makeup item again.

It was near closing time and you where still working on the arrangement from this morning. No matter how many times you had rearranged the selection of flowers, it didn't seem to look right to you. The blue didn't look nice with the whites and the red just ruined the aesthetic the client was after. Ikebana was doing your head in.

The time seemed to tick by in a matter of seconds and before you knew it, it was time for you to lock up shop. Although, your stubborn nature had come into play and where determined to finish this arrangement before heading home. The idea of meeting with Jungkook completely skipping your mind in the process.

It was only then the familiar ringing of the doorbell did it knock you out of concentration. You had looked up to inform the shopped that the store was closed for the day but stopped upon noticing a familiar male making his way over to you curiously.

"Sorry I completely forgot." You honestly admitted once he arrived at the table you were working at.

"No worries." Jungkook shrugged casually before shooting you a kind smile.

"Could you give me a second? I only have one flower left." After hearing him hum in reply, you turned back to your vigorous flower arranging. You had decided with replacing the red with purple but no matter where you put it, it didn't look right to you.

"You little shit."

The male had taken a seat next to you at the bench a few seconds after you let out a curse of annoyance. After seeing you struggle for another few seconds Jungkook finally decided to give a helping hand. Try putting the purple one behind the white one in the top corner." Jungkook suggested before he went to rest his head in his palm.

You followed his instructions and placed it where he had suggested, it looked better then you expected...dang how did you miss that spot? And with that, a joyful sigh escaped your lips.

"Thanks, you have no idea how long I have been working on this arrangement." Picking up the pot, you placed it on a shelf near the front of the shop and retreated behind the counter to remove your apron and grab your bag.

"All good, I didn't know Ikebana could be so frustrating." Jungkook chuckled after recalling the way you cursed at the flower arrangement a few seconds ago. "I had always thought the art of flower arrangement was for calming purposes."

"Trust me, there is nothing calming about arranging those little shits." Slinging your bag over your shoulder, you ushered Jungkook out of the store so you could lock up. "If you want calming go and watch the cars drive past at the top of the headquarters." It was so casually it had just slipped out. It took you a second to process what you had said but none the less you noticed your mistake. The playful bunny-like smile which plagued Jungkook's lips was replaced with a sad one.

"I wish we still could."

Jungkook you where a lot more similar then the two of you knew. The both of you had won the championships at a fairly young age which meant the two of you grew up amidst the bustling demon hunting agency. It was always quite a busy place and there was rarely time during your training sessions where you had time to calm down. The only place you found as an escape was the rooftop of the headquarters.

There was a long pause after Jungkook had spoken. It wasn't because you didn't know how to reply or that Jungkook didn't know what to say next. It was because both of you were too lost in the feeling of nostalgia.

It seemed no matter what the two of you talked about it always ended up being about both of your jobs.

"Do you miss it?" Stepping into a small puddle of water, you watch in bordem as little droplets of water fall onto the leather of your shoes.

"No." It was such an easy lie to make and he knew you knew he was lying. Of course, he did, he just didn't want to go back the same cycle he was in every day. Thinking about his past, wishing for the past, then getting off the couch to avoid talking about it when Minjin got home.

He had to move on. Move on from the family he had grown to love.

"Not one bit." He added before adverting his eyes from looking in front of him to look up at the pale sky. "I've moved on." Lying, again.

"Oh yeah? What are you doing now?" Tilting your head to the side slightly, you watched Jungkook closely. Funny his words sounded so convincing and you would have believed him if his posture hadn't been screaming the opposite.

"I am in the middle of writing up my uni applications." By writing up, he meant he had loaded the tab on his laptop and entered his name, that was technically not lying.

"Dang, what course you thinking of?"

"I~" He began, "Haven't gotten that far yet..." Before trailing off, his voice laced in guilt.

"At least you've got a plan." You say with the intention of comforting him. "I'm going nowhere," you ended before kicking the floor in self frustration.

"Don't worry, I think you're going to be a great Ikebana artist." His attempt to lighten up the atmosphere had you laughing.

"Jeon I think you're overestimating my skills."

"If you handle those little shits like you handle Imps, I'm sure you'll get first place in the next competition." He continued to joke. You didn't pin shy little Jungkook as a tease but it seems you where wrong.

"Or I will get myself arrested for bringing a rifle into the premises." You corrected.

Jungkook simply shrugged before halting himself in front of a tall grey apartment building. "This way." Gesturing you up the stairs, you hesitantly walked through the automatic glass sliding doors. The dodginess of the situation finally settling and it didn't help that Jungkook was leading you up a set of stairs instead of going up the elevator you had just walked past a second ago. "If you think this is dodgy, wait until you enter our apartment."

Okay, Jungkook is most definitely purposely siking you out and it's most definitely working.

The two of you arrive at a door a few seconds later, Jungkook is quick to swipe his key card and lead you down a lengthy corridor. It was the second last door in the corridor that you had stopped in front of.

"You have been warned," Jungkook mutters before pushing the door open.

You honestly had no idea what nonsense Jungkook was going on about but none the less, he succeeded in siking you out because as soon as you stepped inside you winced. You reaction caused Jungkook to chuckle.

Opening your eyes slowly, you fought an expression of shock from forming on your face when your eyes laid on the mess his apartment was in.

Dodgy was definitely one way to put the state of the apartment. Stacks of papers, books, binders where everywhere. The dining table was no longer a dinning table but instead a place for endless stacks of paper. Your eyes moved to gaze over a board pinned against the wall, there was just so much on there you had to take a few steps forward to see everything. UNconsciously, you pushed your glasses up the bridge of your nose and scanned over the countless sticky notes and papers pinned to the board.

A photo of you quickly catching your eyes.

"What..?" Your eyes followed the red string which was attached to your photo, it led you to a photo of your father and the director. That only lead to more connections, from director Kim it led to Jin, Namjoon, Ten the list goes on. "Did you do this, Jungkook?"

Jungkook too was also starring at the large board in bewilderment. The board has always been here but he never really looked at it up close before. It was only when he heard his name come out of your mouth did he snap out of his trance. "No, that women did." Pointing behind you, you slowly turned around only to find yourself face to face with a certain doctor.

"Cheese and rice!" Jumping back in shock, you quickly grab only Jungkook's hand for support. The sight of the sleep-deprived doctor made your face lose its colour and to cower behind the tallboy. It was only after a few seconds did you finally recognise who it was. "Minjin?"

"I'm just going to pretend you didn't just use cheese and rice as a replacement for swearing and cut straight to the chase." Straightening her posture, Minjin cleared her throat. "(Y/n), we need your help in reviving V.I.R.T.U.E."
