Ch 14
A/N: Hello everyone! Hope you guys liked the last chapter. So finally, Narcissa and Lucius have seen Hermione in Draco's room. Do you think they will support their marriage? Read the A/N at the end to find out when the next chapter will be out. On with the chapter!
"Hermione Granger?" The Malfoy matriarch gasped.
"Mudblood Granger girl?" Lucius' jaw dropped.
And Draco dropped the cup of his coffee that he had picked up from the table when Hermione had been busy removing her ring-
-On his wife's legs.
The muggle born witch screamed as she felt the hot coffee burn on her leg and immediately started punching the blond wizard's arms.
"Oww-Gra- Ah wait." The Malfoy Heir grabbed her hands using one of his, and used his other hand to quickly clean her leg using a wandless Scourgify and cast a soothing spell on top of it as well.
When he looked up from her legs to her face, he found tears brimming in her eyes because of the burn. The coffee had actually been very hot, and Draco had taken a lot of time in healing that burn.
He just kept causing her pain again and again.
And this is why the Slytherin wizard was convinced that he was not at all good for the Brightest Witch of Her Age.
And no one was going to convince him otherwise, not even Hermione herself.
"I am sorry, Granger." Draco sighed, hesitantly wiping the non shed tears away from her brown eyes, which were definitely the most beautiful eyes he had ever seen in his whole life.
"It is not your fault, Draco." His wife shook his head and smiled at him. "You did not drop the coffee on me on purpose after all. I am fine."
"You are sure that you are okay?"
"Yes, Draco." She continued smiling at him. "I am fine. And well also, thanks for healing the burn. Using that soothing spell was a good idea, honestly."
"You should hate me, Granger." He sighed again, this time looking away from her face as well.
Salazar knew why she was being this friendly and nice with him.
Weren't they supposed to be some kind of enemies?
And enemies hated each other, instead of calling each other by their first names and smiling at them every time.
"Been there, tried that, and it did not work." Hermione shrugged. "Besides, hate is a really strong word, Draco-"
"It is still Malfoy to you." He reminded her. "Do not act like we are friends, Granger, please. I don't want to deal with this stupidity, specially when you consider the way I have treated you over the years."
"We will need to have a separate conversation about that." She muttered to herself. "Right, so as I was saying, Draco-"
"Malfoy to you, Granger."
"Fine, Malfoy, happy?" The Gryffindor witch rolled her eyes at him. How stubborn could her husband be? "Hate is a strong word, okay? And I never really hated you, I just disliked the way you treated others. But anyone with a brain could understand why you actually behaved like that. And I know why you hate muggle borns like me and even called us a Mud-"
"Don't, Granger, please." Draco closed his eyes. "I haven't used that word even once since the past few years and I don't want to listen to it again. I used to hate muggle borns, Granger. I don't hate them, nor do I believe in the Blood Prejudice crap anymore. I know you don't believe me on this-"
"I think I do." His wife cut him off. "Any wizard who hates muggle borns, specially me, would not jump in front of the Cruciatus Curse. My point remains the same, Dra-"
The Slytherin Prince glared at her.
"I mean, Malfoy." She sighed. "I still stand by what I had said a few hours back to you. You are not a coward, Malfoy."
When he still did not say anything, Hermione hesitantly reached forwards and placed her hand on top of his, hoping for a reaction.
As expected, Draco's head immediately snapped towards her and the muggle born witch had to suppress her laugh as she continued, "You know, Malfoy, sometimes the real world can be like a movie scene, but in this case, definitely not. In movies-"
"Mo- what?" The wizard blinked in confusion at her. "What the hell are you talking about, Granger? Speak in a language I can understand. What the hell are mooviii?"
"Movies." She corrected him. "I will explain that to you later. For now, just consider them as moving pictures, like a story is going on in front of your eyes using moving pictures. Anyways as I was saying, in movies, there are generally two characters, a Hero and a Villain. And more often than not, it is the Hero who wins, while the Villain is simply portrayed as a bad character. He is supposed to do bad works, and in the end, he will loose. That is how a movie works."
The witch stood up and faced him as she continued, "But every story has two sides, Malfoy. Every damn story. And we mostly ignore the second side, the side which made the person who is he today. The side which is the reason behind why that person does whatever he does, or if he is forced to do such stuff. Who knows? What I mean to say, Malfoy, is that it is not necessary that there will just be a Hero and a Villain in every case. No side is perfectly good, everything and everyone has their flaws. Flaws which make the whole difference. And-"
"Oh shut up, mudblood." They heard someone say.
Hermione and Draco frowned as they turned towards the door and found his parents standing there. Oh shit.
They had actually forgotten that they were not alone in their room at that moment.
What was happening to them?"
"Father-" Draco stood up as he addressed his father but was cut off by him.
"I do not care about whatever you have to say, Draco." He coldly said. "I just want you to do one thing, and we can talk about all of this later on."
The Malfoy patriarch even ignored his wife's glare as he stared down at his son's wife.
"Throw this mudblood witch out of our Manor right now, Draco." Lucius glared at Hermione, who was still standing next to his son.
Oh Lucius, you really should not have said that.
Well, Narcissa Malfoy was going to make sure her husband understood why he really should have not used that word again in front of her.
-------------
Meanwhile....
"Hurry up, Pansy." Theo chastised her.
"I am running as fast as I can."
"Then run faster, Pansy."
"Stop yelling at me, Theo."
"Pansy, you are not getting the point here. Luna is-"
"For Salazar's sake, shut up, Theo!" The pure blooded witch hissed and grabbed her friend's arm. She turned him around and slammed him into the wall next to them.
Before the wizard could say anything, Pansy took her wand out, and pointed it at his neck. "Be quiet, or else I will hex you."
"Has Blaise gotten it all wrong?" Theo mumbled to himself. "He thinks Weaselbee is acting all suspiciously. But actually, I think it is Pansy who is acting like that."
"You do know that I can hear everything you are saying, right?" She rolled her eyes, but didn't lose her grip on the wand.
Theo ignored her.
"I mean first, Pansy shows up unexpectedly at the Order of the Phoenix's Headquarters, and when I ask her for an explanation, she does not even answer me, her own friend. Can you even believe that?"
The Slytherin wizard continued, not paying any attention to the witch in front of him. "Then she proceeds to yell at me, quite badly in fact. Like, why would anyone even shout at me? I am such an innocent, and a very nice wizard. If Pansy really had to yell at anyone, then it should have been Blaise, her very idiotic boyfriend. Well, he would be facing her wrath anyways, so we can ignore that."
"And if not Blaise," Theo shook his head, "Then Pansy can yell at Draco, or what she once used to call him, Drakie-poo."
The said witch had to snigger when she recalled the horrified reaction of the Malfoy heir whenever she had called him by that name.
"Dear dragon was actually the one who told us not to tell Pansy anything, and now we face to face her wrath, specially me. Oh you poor Theodore Nott Jr."
Wait, she hadn't known that.
Draco Lucius Malfoy, be ready to face your friend Pansy Parkinson's wrath as soon as she is done with this mission.
The mission which was interrupted by the Nott heir's ridiculous ramblings.
"And now, Pansy slammed me into the wall, and even pointed her wand at me." Theo dramatically sighed. "What has this world come to?"
Pansy shook her head. "I really do not have any clue as to everyone else deals with this stupid wizard. Well specially Luna-"
It was as if whatever trance Theo had been, broke when he heard his girlfriend's name.
"Luna!" His eyes widened. "My dear Luna. Oh my moon. Pansy, why are you wasting so much of time? We need to find her right now. Salazar knows what condition she would be in. Or if she is even alive-"
"Shut the hell up, Theo!" Pansy pulled him a little forwards, only to slam him into the wall again. "Just shut up! Your constant worrying of her is not going to help her, not in any case."
It was then she noticed the unshed tears shining in Theo's light brown eyes.
"Oh Theo." The witch whispered and immediately pulled him into a hug. "It will be alright, Theo, okay?"
"I... I can't lose her, Pans." The Nott heir shook his head, burying his face in the crook of her neck to hide his tears. "Luna- My moon... She is my everything. She is the reason I am still alive... I can't... I can't lose her. I will die-"
"Theo!" The Slytherin witch pulled away from him and grabbed his cheeks, which had become wet because of the tears that had finally started escaping from his eyes. "Don't you dare talk like that, you understand me? Never ever talk like that again. Do you think you don't matter to any of us? Hell Theo, Draco will never forgive himself if something happens to you. Our dragon loves you like a brother, even more than that. Blaise can never survive a day without you, no matter how much he constantly complaints about how irritating you are. Narcissa and Lucius think of you like their son. And Luna? What will she do if she got to know that you were thinking like this?"
"And what about you?" Theo tried to weakly chuckle, he had definitely missed the ferocious nature of his friend which had seemed to vanish after they had lost the Battle of Hogwarts.
"I will kill you with my bare hands if you even thought of leaving us, all of us." Pansy tried hard, but when it seemed that she had lost her control on the tears, she buried her face in his chest.
"I am not going anywhere, Pansy." The wizard tightly wrapped his arms around her. "I just... I need you in my life. And Draco, Blaise, Aunt Cissy and Uncle Lucy... And my Luna."
"We will find her, Theo, I promise you." She allowed him to wipe her tears when she leaned back and nodded to herself. "We should search the Dark Arts shop that Luna had told you she would be going to before visiting the Diagon Alley. We need to be careful while we are roaming around in the Knockturn Alley."
"Agreed." Theo nodded. "We should go now."
Just as they had turned to walk towards the shop, Theo felt someone pointing their wand on his back.
"Not so fast, Nott Jr." A Death Eater named Fawley spoke.
-----------------
"Zabini- don't you dare! Listen to me- Zabini, no!" Harry's jaw dropped.
Blaise Zabini had not just done whatever the Boy Who Lived thought he did.
The Slytherin wizard had not just drunk a whole vial of an unknown potion that they had found at the local wizarding shop they had been visiting in the Magical Alley of Italy.
"Potter?" Blaise frowned.
And then he looked at the empty spot next to the other wizard. "Another Potter?"
This time, it was Harry's turn to frown. "Are you kidding me? There is no one here except us, Zabini. You do remember why we chose this secluded area in the Alley right?"
"Oh wait, there are a bunch of Potters now." The Italian wizard's frown turned into laughter as he swayed on his feet. "Why are there so many Potters?"
Harry did not know how to deal with a drunk Blaise Zabini.
Godric, why did that stupid Slytherin had to drink that unknown potion?
"Zabini-"
"FLIPENDO!"
Harry's eyes widened as he ducked and looked sideways at the Slytherin wizard who was pointing his wand at the spot where the Chosen One had been standing.
A Death Eater laid there on the ground, his head which had a huge gash on it, leaning on the wall behind him.
Blaise did not look like he had even been drunk just a few moments back.
He had been the one to cast the spell.
Blaise had saved Harry. His enemy.
Just then, the Gryffindor wizard heard footsteps approaching them and immediately stood up, only to notice a bunch of Death Eaters coming towards them.
Nodding to the other wizard, Harry quickly took his wand out, and started firing whichever spells that came in his mind, on them.
The Death Eaters were more in number, but it seemed as if they had never really received a proper training in the Dark Arts.
Though, their number was definitely an advantage for them.
When the Death Eaters started forming a circle around them, Harry and Blaise, without actually realising it, stood back to back and started fighting ferociously, using the secluded area to their full advantage.
Within a few minutes, the young Gryffindor and Slytherin wizard had managed to overpower the Death Eaters, and eventually, the last Death Eater fell down on the ground.
The two wizards then quickly obliviated them, and Harry took his Invisibility Cloak out to drape it on himself and Blaise.
"What the heck was that?" Harry gasped as they left the dark Alley. "One moment you are drunk and the other you... Well you-"
"I saved you, Potter." He rolled his eyes. "It is not that hard to speak. Or are you still in disbelief about what I did? Maybe you should change your glasses-"
"I know what I saw, Zabini." The Chosen One narrowed his eyes at him. "And my glasses are working perfectly, thank you very much. What I want to know, and can't understand, is why did you save me? Don't you hate me or something?"
"No wonder everyone calls you oblivious, Potter-"
"Nobody calls me oblivious, Zabini-"
"Each and every person you know, including me, calls you that." Blaise rolled his eyes at him once again. "And if you have not noticed anyone calling you that ever, then it is just further evidence of you being oblivious."
"Stay in your limits, Zabini-"
"Anyways, back to your question." He cut the other wizard off. "Of course I had to save you, Potter. I am an Order member now too, have been for a while, actually. And then again, the only person who can finally defeat the Dark Lord is you, so how can I not save you?"
"But I thought you all Slytherins hated us Gryffindors-"
"And you all call us Slytherins prejudiced." The Italian wizard sighed and shook his head. "In reality, it is actually the whole wizarding world who is prejudiced against us. You see a Slytherin, and you automatically assume that the person is evil. Why so? Is it written anywhere that we can only be evil and nothing else."
"I didn't mean to-"
"It is not just you, Potter. It is everyone else. You all at least get a choice in deciding which side you want to be, but we don't. We have to do as the Dark Lord says or we risk getting our families hurt. Yes, some of us are prejudiced against muggle borns, but only because we are taught to be like that since the very beginning. And we just can't suddenly go against everything we have believed in, everything we had to believe in. But at the same time, nobody forced you all to think that we are evil, or that no good can come from us. You did because you wanted to, it is as simple as that. People are made to be evil, Potter. And the faster you try to learn that, the better."
Harry sighed and nodded. He knew that everything the Slytherin wizard had just said was nothing but the truth.
The Chosen One himself had believed the Slytherins to be nothing but a house full of every dark wizard which had existed in history, only because Ron and Hagrid, whom he had met just a while ago at that time, had told him.
Maybe it was high time that the raven haired wizard started to change his thinking skills.
"Zabini-"
"We can have a lengthy talk about this later, Potter."
"Okay." Harry nodded again. "Just tell me why were you acting like a drunk person?"
"I saw those Death Eaters standing in front of that house a few minutes back, and they had already seen us, so I didn't ask you to put on the Cloak. Before I could warn you, they suddenly disappeared, but I knew that they were here somewhere only, just waiting for their chance to attack us. So I picked up a discarded vial lying here, and put it near my mouth to drink it, which you, and the Death Eaters thought I had done, whereas actually, I just vanished the potion inside it discreetly, and simply pretended to be drunk. Like this, the Death Eaters thought that they would have to fight only you, and so, they didn't waste any time in coming here."
"I hate to admit this, but that was actually brilliant, Zabini." The Boy Who Lived was actually shocked.
"I am brilliant, Potter, you just refused to accept that." Blaise smirked at him and then looked at the house in which they had to go in. "You are sure that this is the real Amelia Marie Romano's house, right Potter?"
"A hundred percent sure." Harry nodded. "I had checked the address in that register, and even verified it with some of the local Aurors."
"I don't know about you, but I certainly know what the presence of those Death Eaters in front of her house means."
"Are you thinking what I am thinking?" This time, the Gryffindor wizard was not being the oblivious person like he is.
"Definitely." Blaise nodded. "It simply means that the real Amelia is a witch as well-"
"A witch who loves the dark arts, and would love to join You Know Who's army as well, if she hasn't already joined, that is." Harry finished the thought for him.
-----------
At the Malfoy Manor.....
Draco immediately stood in front of Hermione when he heard his father say those words. He was not going to let anyone throw the witch out of this house.
And how dare his father call her that word again? Specially after all that she had done for him, for this family.
The blond wizard noticed his wife slowly stepping around him, but not enough as he still had his arm in front of her.
She was brave.
But even brave people were allowed to have weaknesses.
And the Malfoy Heir could see that although his wife held her chin up high, her right hand was covering the scar that had been given to her by his deranged aunt Bellatrix in this very house of his.
So Draco did the only thing that came in his mind then.
He hesitantly pushed his hand back, touching her fingers and when she didn't move her hand away, he laced his fingers with her, reminding her of his promise once again.
He would not let anyone harm her.
And while his father was busy glaring at his wife, the Slytherin Prince quickly put the charms back up on the door which had automatically closed after his parents had entered his room, unannounced at that.
He made sure to include an extra strong Muffliato in the enchanted spells.
"Lucius!" The Malfoy matriarch gasped. "How dare you say that word again? I had warned you to never use that word and now-"
"Look how our son is acting, Cissa." Lucius glared at the wizard, all the while ignoring his own wife's glare. "He is trying to protect that mud-"
"She doesn't need anyone's protection, Father, much less mine." Draco answered him. "But you definitely need to stop saying that word."
"How dare you talk like that to your own father-"
"My dragon is right, Lucius." Narcissa told him. "Say that word once more, and I swear to you, you would not like being at the receiving end of my wand right now."
"But Narcissa, you know I-"
"Enough." She interrupted her husband's protests, shot him a glare and turned towards her son. "Draco, you need to tell us each and every single detail about this. Right now."
Her son sighed and looked at the muggle born witch who was standing beside him. The latter nodded after a few seconds, an unspoken conversation going on between them, and turned towards the older Malfoys.
"Mr and Mrs Malfoy," Hermione spoke, her voice showing no sign of fear, although she was still holding on to her husband's hand, "Please take a seat."
Lucius tried to scoff and say something, probably to dismiss her like she was a servant, but one intense glare from his wife was all it took for him to follow her and sit down on the couch near the bed.
Draco looked at the Gryffindor witch, and together, they sat down on the bed, on the side which was facing the couch, hand in hand.
When neither of the young witch and wizard spoke for a few minutes, Lucius hissed, "Are you two going to speak or do you want me to go and tell about this to the Dark Lord-?"
Narcissa sighed. "Lucius, just give them a chance-"
"As well as Amelia." The Malfoy patriarch continued. "You do remember who she is, right son? Or have you forgotten about your wife whom you married just a few weeks back all because of this filthy scum who is sitting right next to you?"
Draco stayed quiet.
"Fine." His father got up from the couch. "I will simply go and tell Amelia about this-"
"You do not need to go anywhere to do that, Father." Draco looked at his father directly in the eye, challenging him to do anything to his wife. "You want to tell Amelia about this, right? Very well. You can do that in this very room only."
"The heck you mean by that-"
"What I mean by that, is Father," He looked at the witch beside him, "Amelia Malfoy née Romano is sitting right in front of you right now."
Lucius and Narcissa's eyes widened as their face shifted towards the muggle born witch sitting on the bed. The latter was the one to break the silence. "Hermione Granger is Amelia?"
"No, mother. Amelia is Hermione Granger. The pure blooded witch named Amelia does not even exist. It was merely a disguise."
Oh Draco, you are so wrong there.
Amelia Romano does exist, and she's definitely not good for their plan.
Hermione's eyes flicked towards the blond wizard, who was looking back at her. This was the first time he had called her by her name.
Hermione.
And of course, Lucius Malfoy had to break their moment.
"You better explain everything to us right now, Draco." The Malfoy patriarch spoke, choosing to sit back down on the couch after his wife stomped her foot on his.
"That hurts, Narcissa." Lucius whispered to his wife.
"It will hurt more later on." She narrowed her eyes at him. "I had warned you several times not to say that word in front of me again, but of course, you didn't listen to me. Just you wait, Lucius, just you wait."
Before Lucius could react to that, Draco spoke, "Do you remember how I had told you both that I was going to be a spy for the Order of the Phoenix?"
When his parents nodded, he continued, "When I had told Kingsley Shacklebolt about an important information, which might have helped the Dark Lord win the Battle of Hogwarts, he made an important decision in the meeting later on."
Hermione continued for him, "Kingsley did choose Dra- I mean, Malfoy," She corrected after her husband squeezed her hand tightly, "To be the spy for the Order. But Malfoy, at that time, didn't know any information about Horcruxes, so he could not do the work of destroying the remaining horcruxes all alone. And so, he had to choose someone who had a lot of information about them, and was familiar with the Horcruxes as well, as another spy."
"And that's why he chose Granger." Draco said. "She knew everything about them, and has also destroyed one of them, the Hufflepuff's Cup to be exact. And thus, we became spy partners."
"But that doesn't explain why this mud- I mean this girl," Lucius corrected when his wife nudged his ribs, "came to become Amelia Romano and married you in a disguise, Draco."
Hermione and Draco looked at each other once again and explained everything, from Kingsley's plan of making her act like Blaise's step sister, to the wedding ring on her finger which actually helped her with the disguise.
When they were done, Narcissa stood up and walked towards them. "You two have been risking your lives to save the world and didn't think of disclosing this to us? Answer me, Draco. Why didn't you tell your own parents?"
"Mother-"
"What if someday you needed our help and we didn't know how to help you both because we weren't aware of this?" She continued.
"Don't tell me you approve of this, Cissa." Lucius interjected. "Our son married-"
"It was not a real wedding, Father-"
"- a scum, and ruined the Malfoy bloodline. You cannot be serious when you say you do not have any problem with it, Cissa." He said.
His wife glared at him over her shoulder. "I will deal with you later on. And you, Draco, be prepared to face my wrath afterwards."
"I didn't even do anything, Mother-"
"You hid this from me for almost a month now." His mother said. "Therefore, you need to learn not to lie to your parents. Lucius, let us go now. We have some work to do."
The Malfoy patriarch tried to say something more, but Narcissa shook her head, grabbed his hand and led them out of their son's room.
After Draco had locked the room, he turned towards his wife, who was looking away from him. "Granger-"
"It is late. We should sleep." Hermione stood up from the bed. "I can sleep on the couch if you want-"
"No, it is fine. I will just transfigure the couch into a bed." The Malfoy Heir sighed and headed towards the enjoined bathroom.
On any other day, he would have gladly accepted her offer of sleeping on the couch, but he knew that facing his parents had not been easy for her.
Specially his father, who had called her that cruel word again and again.
Draco Malfoy could be nice to others.
------------
Next morning....
"Granger-"
"Where is that list, Malfoy?"
"Here it is. And Granger-"
"Did we write everything we know about the Horcruxes on it?"
"Of course we did. Listen, I need to talk with you-"
"And what about the ways we can destroy the Horcruxes-"
"SHUT UP, GRANGER!" Draco snatched the list away from her, putting it on the bookshelf, and took a seat next to her in the small library. "We need to talk about what happened last night."
"Nothing happened last night, Malfoy-"
"Silencio." The blond wizard, after using that spell on her, checked the strength of the Muffliato spell that he had already cast around them and turned back towards her. "Granger-"
Just then, he noticed her hand going towards her wand, and immediately accioed it towards him. "Oh no no, you need to hear what I am trying to say, Granger. I will remove the spell afterwards, because we both know that you will not let me speak."
"Granger," Draco continued, "I need to apologise to you for the way my father acted last night, how he called you that cruel word and the way he spoke about that. Granger, you need to know that I no longer believe in that bullshit. I no longer care about blood purity, it means nothing to me. I have seen lots of bloodshed, and trust me, I do not find the blood of muggles and muggle borns different from half bloods and pure bloods. There is no mud in the blood, Granger. We all bleed the same. And therefore, I do not think there is any point in believing all of this."
He took a pause and then twirled her wand between his fingers. "You are not unworthy of your magic, Granger, and I am sorry if I ever made you feel like that. You are a talented witch, and I cannot ignore the truth anymore. My father on the other hand, he does believe in this crap. But I am sure my mother will make him understand that this is not important. We need to win this war, Granger, and I promise you, I will not let anyone harm you, or disclose our plan to anyone else."
Of course, Hermione thought, he was only promising to not let anyone harm her because of the plan.
Draco didn't actually care about her.
He removed the spell from her, and gave her wand back. "Thank you." Hermione whispered. "It is good to know that you don't care about all of this."
"Yeah, and-" Suddenly, his eyes widened. "Do you remember how frustrated we were that we didn't get any further information about the horcruxes?"
When she nodded, he continued, "Granger, I know what we have to do in order to get it. We will have to act like a real couple, who is in love, that is. That means, we will have to kiss and act lovingly in front of everyone."
