Narrator's POV

Joe parked the car. After shutting the car off Joe exited the car and he got out. He ran around the car and opened the door for Rebecca.
She smiled up at him as she exited the car. He offered her his arm and she happily took it.
They walk into Kay's and the place was lousy with DHS students including Renee, Jonathan, Ashley, Claudio and Colby having dinner before Renee's party.
"Look what the cat dragged in," giggles Ashley "She's actually dressed like a girl! Except she wore her stupid ass beanie."
Colby turned his attention to the door and his eyes landed on Rebecca and Joe. Could it be she was even more beautiful then she was when he saw her only thirty minutes ago?

Colby's POV

I let out a low whistle "Wow," I said.
" Damn, " said Jonathan "She cleaned up nicely.-"
Renee slapped the back of his head.
"-Ouch," said Jonathan " What was that for? "
"Eyeing the Quin girl like that."
" For fucks sake Renee, " I said "Her name is Rebecca! Quit calling her that Quin girl."
I stood up and walked over to Rebecca and Joe.
"Colby?" said Rebecca " What are you doing here? " she smiled at me.
"Having dinner but we haven't ordered yet. Do you want to join us?" I asked.
" Us? " she said.
"Yeah," I said pointing at the table " Us. "
She gave one look at the table and shook her head 'no.'
" I-I-I-I-I don't think that's a good idea, " she said "Come on Joe let's find a table."

Narrator's POV

Colby watched as Joe lead Rebecca away and to a table for two by brushing the small of her back. He stood there utterly defeated. He jumped when one of the varsity cheerleaders tapped him on the shoulder.
"Lopez?" she said smiling at him.
"Oh hi Trinity," he said smiling at her.
"You okay?" she asked .
"Yeah," he said shaking his head of the cobwebs " I'm fine Trinity. "
The petite teen smiled at him "You know Rebecca cleans up nicely. I don't think I have ever seen her in a dress. She is really gorgeous."
" Yeah, " said Colby his voice catching in the back of his throat.
"Are you sweet on her?" she asked her chocolate brown eyes dancing.
"No," said Colby avoiding Trinity's eyes " She's just my best friend, " he smiled at Trinity "Have a good night Trin," he put a hand on her shoulder.
"Yeah," said Trinity looking at Colby with concern " You too Lopez, " she put a hand on his shoulder "If she can't see how great you are. Then she doesn't deserve you."
Colby forced a smile "Thanks," he said walking away from Trinity and back over to his table "Renee I am sorry I am not feeling well. I think I am just going to go home," he shrugged on his leather jacket and put his ball cap back on backwards as he always wore it.
"Colby seriously?! I was going to set you up with my friend Mercedes. She is easy," said Renee .
"Maybe next time," said Colby "I'll see you on Monday."
Colby gave one last look at Rebecca and Joe before he pushed the door open he watched as Joe reached forward and brushed a lose strand of hair behind Rebecca's ear. Colby did his best to hold it together as he left but once he got to his car he broke down in tears.
Colby sat in his car for so long he saw Rebecca and Joe leave the diner. He watched as Joe opened the door and Rebecca climbed into the car. It took a little while longer before Colby pulled himself together and he finally drove off.
He went home and went to bed. He never saw Rebecca's two flashes when she came home after her date.
Rebecca went to bed truly heart broken because she wanted to let Colby know how her first date went.
