Bonding
The second Nathan woke up, his stomach was in knots. Wednesday had come quickly for his liking.
Nathan rolled onto his side and looked at his clock. 8:30. Sighing to himself, Nathan sat up, causing the blankets to fall to his waist.
Placing his feet onto the cold wood floor, Nathan forced himself out of bed. He instantly walked towards his wardrobe and grabbed a plain black shirt.
After putting on his shirt, Nathan walked into his son's nursery, being careful not to wake the six-month-old. He instantly smiled when he saw Dylan still sleeping peacefully. Nathan hadn't realised how little sleep he'd gotten until Dylan started sleeping through the night, something he was very thankful for.
"Morning Nathan!" Ryan greeted, grieving Nathan a smile.
"Morning," Nathan greeted as he poured some orange juice into his glass and instantly drank it.
"Did you have a good night?" Ryan questioned as he took a sip of his coffee.
"Dylan didn't wake up, but I feel even more tired than I did when he was awake every hour," Nathan explained.
"Ryan, would you mind driving me and Dylan to town today? He has a doctor's appointment, I'm just going to quit while I'm there," Nathan questioned as he fiddled with his shirt.
"Sure, Kid. Have you considered learning to drive?" Ryan asked, taking a seat next to Nathan.
"I've never really thought about it. There's been a lot more things to worry about and I've never really had the money for lessons," Nathan explained.
"When do you have the next assessment for college?" Ryan questioned.
"Should be next week," Nathan answered, shooting Ryan a confused look.
"If you get an +A on that assessment, I'll pay for your driving lessons, If you don't you have to wait. Does that seem fair?" Ryan questioned, smiling at Nathan's confused look.
"Your serious?" Nathan questioned, barely able to form words.
"Of course I am. So, do you agree?" Ryan asked.
"Alright. No pressure. Thanks."
"Don't thank me yet, you haven't gotten the grade. What time's Dylan's appointment?"
"It's at twelve. We should only be around forty-five minutes as long as Tomas doesn't make a big deal about me leaving."
"He might. I don't doubt you're a good worker, Nathan. You're one of the few workers willing to go in and stay longer when he asked. Of course he doesn't want to let you go," Ryan explained.
"I still don't want him to make a big deal out of this. It's the last thing I need today," Nathan explained, standing up and putting some bread in the toaster.
"Are you not waiting for breakfast?" Ryan questioned.
"I'm starving and Scarlett likes to sleep in," Nathan explained and walked towards the stairs. "I'm going to check on Dylan."
"Hey Buddy," Nathan cooed, picking his waking son up. "Daddy's here," Nathan whispered, cradling Dylan in his arms.
"Did you have a good sleep?" Nathan cooed as he carried his son towards the changing table.
"Guess what? We're going to the doctor's today! You're having a checkup," Nathan explained gently as he changed Dylan. "You don't have to worry about it. It'll be over real soon, okay."
"I bet you're hungry," Nathan spoke gently as he carried Dylan downstairs. "Well, Daddy's food is going to be cold now. So I'm going to steel yours okay?" Nathan smiled, kissing Dylan's nose.
"I just put butter on your toast. Is that alright?" Ryan questioned as Nathan walked into the kitchen.
"That's perfect. Thank you." Nathan pulled Dylan's high chair and placed and strapped him in.
"You eat your toast while it's still warm, I'll feed Dylan," Ryan ordered as he took the baby food from the cupboard.
"Thanks." Nathan sat down and began eating his toast quickly, trying to finish it while it's warm.
"What time is it?" Ryan questioned, scooping another spoonful of baby food onto his spoon.
"Nine," Nathan answered, smiling when he saw a text from Lucas.
Lucas 8:48
Hey! How are you? Did Dylan sleep through the night?
9:01
Hi! I'm fine. He did, I really happy about that. I'm quitting today, can't be bothered with Tomas anymore.
Lucas 9:03
Good! You shouldn't have to deal with it, anyway. Have you heard anything about your interview?
9:03
Not yet, it hasn't even been a week yet. I just hope I'm going to get it.
Lucas 9:05
You will. You're better than all of them.
9:06
I wish I had your confidence.
"Morning." Erin smiled, turning the coffee machine on.
"Morning Darling" Ryan smiled, taking Dylan out of his highchair and kissing Erin on the cheek.
"How do you people like coffee?" Nathan questioned, a frown on his face.
"Good morning to you to Nathan," Erin laughed. "I don't really like it, but when you're exhausted, you'll drink anything," Erin explained.
"I wouldn't drink coffee if my life depended on it," Nathan declared, scrunching his face.
"I'll remind you of that when you're older." Ryan smiled.
Nathan smiled and stood up, opening his arms to take Dylan. The boy instantly held his arms out.
"Hey Dylan, do you want to play with Daddy?" Nathan questioned as he carried his son towards the living room.
"You have an hour, Nathan, then get dressed, okay? I'll look after Dylan," Ryan ordered, smiling at the pair.
"Okay, thanks."
Nathan placed Dylan in his plan pen. The second Nathan placed him down, Dylan instantly reached for his blocks.
Nathan grabbed a red block and placed it on top of the blue one, Dylan then grabbed another red one and placed it on Nathan's.
"Good Boy," Nathan praised, watching Dylan place another block next to the first one.
"No... Don't do that," Nathan lectured, stopping Dylan from attempting to eat the block.
"What's he doing?" Scarlett questioned, sitting on the couch, her red hair tied up in a messy bun.
"Trying to eat the blocks," Nathan responded, keeping an eye on Dylan.
"You might want this," Scarlett said kindly, handing Nathan Dylan's bunny.
"Dylan, what's this bud?" Nathan questioned Dylan holding the bunny out for his son.
Squealing with glee, Dylan snatched the bunny from his dad's hands and cuddled the toy close to him.
"Do you want to get ready now, Nathan?" Ryan questioned as he walked into the living room.
"I'll keep Dylan occupied," Scarlett offered, but her smile quickly faded when Ryan glared at her.
"I'll keep Dylan occupied, you can complete the course work that you said you would finish yesterday," Ryan ordered, giving Scarlett a disappointed look.
Nathan walked out of the room when Scarlett argued, despite knowing she would never win.
Nathan walked into the bathroom and turned the shower on before leaving it to get warm.
After spending ten minutes lost in his own thoughts, Nathan finally began washing himself.
"Are you almost ready? We should really go in ten minutes," Ryan asked as Nathan walked into the living room. He turned his attention away from Dylan, who was still playing with his blocks.
"Almost, I just need to get Dylan's things; I should only be five minutes." Nathan had already started walking out of the room as he spoke.
Just as he had predicted, five minutes later Nathan had everything he needed for Dylan's appointment. Ignoring the pain in his stomach, Nathan strapped Dylan in his booster seat and climbed into the passenger seat.
