chapter two

"Little Lenny," Fred ran up, ruffling her blonde hair and holding the tips of it. "New color?"

The previous year it had been dark green and the year before that it was an ombre of pink to purple.

She had a somewhat ok relationship with the twins. It wasn't as awkward as her and Ginny's weird looks across the room. She mainly talked to them when they needed help with a prank or if they threw a party.

Selena shrugged, "Got bored."

"I keep trying to convince my mum to let us dye our hair bright yellow," George joined their conversation.

Theo had left to get himself a drink, and Callum stood next to Selena, propping himself up with his elbow on her head.

"You gotta preserve the red though," Selena laughed. "I think red will be my next color."

"The color suits you too, Callum," George nodded towards the slytherin boy.

"Thanks," he muttered. "I let Lenny do it, she's pretty much a natural."

She nodded her head quickly, causing Callum to lose his balance and almost fall. Selena let out a chuckle when he propped himself up again and told her stop moving her head.

"Anywho, drinks are over there and for little Lenny," Fred threw her a pack of cigarettes.

She gasped, "You guys are a lifesaver."

"We know," they said at the same time before turning away and talking to Lee Jordan.

Selena immediately took a cigarette out of the pack and lit it with her finger, a wandless and nonverbal spell she learned when she first started smoking in 2nd year. She took a drag of it with a sigh of relief.

Callum outreached his hand with a raise of his eyebrows.

"You're gonna kill yourself with those," she said mockingly while handing him one and lighting with her finger once more.

"Whatever," he rolled his eyes as he took a drag. "Is Luna coming?"

"I'm not sure," the blonde girl replied. "Partying isn't really her thing but she knows I'm here so we'll just have to see."

"What are we gonna see," an airy voice responded from behind them.

Selena jumped and turned her head behind her, causing Callum to completely fall flat on his face.

"Merlin, Luna! You scared the shit out of me," Selena said, hugging her twin.

"Sorry, Len. The wakspurts are making it hard to think properly."

"Of course, I just finally got rid of them," Selena nodded her head.

"Don't worry about me, I'm fine" Callum said, his face still smushed into the carpet.

"I'm glad, wouldn't want that pretty face of yours to get smushed, now would we," Selena said, helping him up.

"You shouldn't put your face so close to the carpet anyway," Luna stated. "The elves who clean them have billywhoppers."

Callum smiled, "Right, sorry Luna."

"No worries, just don't want my friends to go crazy"

"I'm gonna go get a drink, you want one Lenny," Callum asked, the smile never leaving his face.

"Yes fucking please," she sighed.

Her and Luna talked for a few moments before she left. Callum came back with the drinks a few moments later.

"Thank Godric," she said, taking a sip.

Callum on the other hand downed his drink in a matter of seconds and it refilled immediately.

"Don't drink too much, I'm not carrying you back to your dorm again."

"Theo will help me, I just need to drink my worries away."

"What worries do you have," Selena asked, concerned for her friend's health. See? She could be nice when she wanted to.

Not that she ever wanted to

"I-," he took a deep breath and looked towards Harry Potter, who was caught up in a conversation with a random hufflepuff. He shook his head," Nothing."

"Sure," she said, squinting her eyes at her best friend while taking another sip of her drink.

Despite what she said, her and Theo did indeed end up carrying Callum to his dorm.

The blonde girl now sat on the astronomy tower, having her last cigarette of the night. Well, last four cigarettes but that's not the point.

"Mind sharing?"

Selena's breath hitched, but she didn't stop looking straight ahead as she nodded, knowing exactly whose voice it was. She heard the person sit next to her, and Selena pushed the cigarette pack towards the person, taking a drag of her own.

The two sat in silence. Selena never looked towards the presence, but she could feel the person staring at them.

"Selena, at least look at me. You don't have to talk, just look at me please," the voice pleaded.

Selena sighed and looked toward the person.

Ginny Weasley sat next to her, legs criss-crossed with one hand in her lap and the other continually bringing her cigarette to her mouth. Her red hair blew slightly in the wind, pieces flying into her light blue-grey eyes every once and a while. She wore an orange knitted jumper with a big G knitted in yellow.

She smiled immediately when Selena turned to her.

"How have you been," she attempted small talk.

"Just peachy," the blonde replied sarcastically. "You?"

"Great," she took a deep breath. "I like your hair, it brings out your eyes- I mean your eye-," she took another deep breath, "It looks great on you."

"Thanks."

Ginny took a deep breath once again and whispered, "What happened?"

"I mean, we were best friends," she continued. "You went home one night after playing quidditch, and you were happy and smiling. But you never came back," her voice cracked.

"Look Ginny-"

"Didn't you love being friends? Didn't you enjoy all the moments we had? We may have been young but- but we were best friends and you just left! Didn't you value the moments we shared together?"

It all went quiet, despite the wind blowing through the thick silence. Stars sprinkled the sky and the moon dripped pale light onto the castle. The sound of rustling of trees and bushes echoed, as if taunting the two girls, trying to prove that no matter what, their surroundings nor minds would never be fully silent.

Selena's emotion filled voice cut through the noise filled silence.

"I can't remember the moments we shared together."

"What do you mean-"

"I lost my memory that night. That's why I never came back. I remembered you, but I didn't remember memories with you. I didn't remember what I felt towards you or what you felt towards me. I wasn't sure if you were my best friend or mortal enemy."

"How- how did you lose your memory."

"Same way I got this," she pointed at the scar on her face "A potions explosion. My mother died. My dad hated me. My sister stopped talking. My whole family was destroyed, and I wasn't allowed to talk to people."

"And that's why you never came back?"

Selena nodded, "Luna told me about a few memories, and I wanted so much to go and see if you were as lovely as she described you. And surprise surprise, you are," she laughed.

"Why didn't you talk to me when we got to Hogwarts?"

"Same reason you didn't try to talk to me, I guess. I was bloody terrified. I'm not the best with emotions. I couldn't handle the idea of trying to rebuild a friendship with someone I basically ditched."

"Maybe we could try again though," Ginny said. "I could tell you stories about our childhood. We can make new memories, ones you'll never be able to forget."

Selena looked into her eyes for the first time that night. Taking a deep breath, she replied, "I- that sounds nice."

*laughs in angst that is literally just going to get worse*
