Thad obliterated the barrier refusing to stand down..  It wasn't as simple as a force field to prevent the boy, it was a dimensional obstacle. 

Thad took a deep breath before he raced towards Barry, hugging him." Thank you for...for being a better man, a better father figure then my own..the greatest influence I could have asked for..."  He pushed him away immediately.
