AEAI 14

A lot has changed lately in my life. For one, I got a new roommate. Then, I stopped having sex every day I wasn’t working late. I started paying attention to one person in particular. I wanted to be with only one person. But, by far, my favorite thing that has changed is waking up next to someone – Henry in particular. I’ve never, before today, woken up next to someone that I wasn’t related to or I only considered a friend.

This morning I open my eyes before my alarm goes off. That’s a miracle in itself, but when I feel his arm around my waist and I open my eyes, I can’t even speak. If there is some kind of Deity, He and/or She woke me up so I could see this.

He’s still sleeping. One of his arms is under his pillow propping up his head and the old drapes over my middle holding me in place. His glasses are still gone and his lips are parted slightly. He looks so peaceful and almost pure. If I wasn’t here last night, I could swear he’s an angel.

The smile on my face is the most genuine I’ve ever felt. I’ll never understand how this one person could turn my life around in just a couple weeks. He just walked into my apartment one day because of the ad and then walked out with my heart.

The most surprising part is that I don’t mind one bit. If this would have happened with anyone else or at any other time, I would have been so freaked out. But right now, I’m happily content.

When my alarm goes off, I can’t take it anymore. After turning it off and staring at him for a few minutes, I place my hand lightly on his cheek and my lips lightly on his. If it surprises him, he doesn’t show it. The arm that’s around my waist tightens slightly as he sucks in a breath and moves his lips with mine. A gravely, tired moan leaves his throat and seems to move straight through me.

“Good morning,” he blinks his eyes open and smiles down at me.

Somehow I’m laying half on top of him with his hands traveling up and down my back.

I peck his lips again and back away to look into his eyes, “Good morning.”

His smile does something funny to my insides.

“How are you feeling this morning?” I ask because I’m curious and worried. I don’t want him to run off, but saying as he’s still here in bed with me, I should be fine. “Are you alright?”

His deep chuckle makes me smirk, “I should be asking you that.”

I let my face fall into his chest as I laugh along.

“Sorry I kind of took over last night,” I hear him say.

“Kind of?” I pick my head up and raise an eyebrow. “First off, don’t apologize, it was amazing. Secondly,” I tilt my head, “you didn’t just kind of take over. You completely took over.”

“Sorry.”

I shake my head slightly, “Don’t be.”

Letting go of my body, he stretches his arms out to the sides and closes his eyes. I can feel the muscles in his chest tense as he turns his head to the side to yawn. It may me one of the most adorable things I’ve ever seen. How did I get this lucky?

“We should probably start getting ready for work,” he suggests as he wraps me back in his strong arms.

I place the side of my face on his chest again and agree, “Probably.”

“Or…” he drags the word out to nothing before flipping us both over, “we could have a little more fun.” His lips find my neck as he trails kisses down the side of it to my shoulder. He stops abruptly and looks up at me, “What time is it?”

Looking over at the clock on my side table, I curse, “Shit. I’m going to be late.”

He looks over too, “Dammit.” His eyes wonder back to mine, “We will continue this later.”

“We better,” I confirm as we both get out of bed. Grabbing new boxers from my drawer, I look over to see him putting his dirty ones on, “You want to shower with me?”

“More than you know,” his smirk is accompanied by pink cheeks. “But if I get in that shower with you,” he hitches an eyebrow as he picks his clothes up off the floor, “we’ll both be late.”

“Fine,” I chuckle. “Do you mind if I take the first one?”

“Go ahead, I’m still on time.”

Rolling my eyes, I leave him to get his stuff as I walk to the bathroom. I try to make it as fast as I can, but the warmth of the water feels amazing after our work out last night. Just when I’m about to get out, there’s a knock on the door. And then Henry’s voice, “Babe, you’re going to be late.”

Just one singular word, like the person it came from, makes me smile, “I’m coming.”

He gets in the shower as I get dressed. As soon as I’m done, he’s in the kitchen in his basketball shorts.

He smiles when he sees me walking in, “I made you coffee, but you should get going. I don’t want you to be late.”

I see that he’s right when I look over to the clock on the oven.

Nodding, I take the coffee mug from his hand and my keys from our bowl on the counter. Setting my item on the island, I hold my arms out to him, “Give me a kiss.”

He walks up to me and puts his hands on either side of my face. The kiss is innocent and sweet until I push his back into the counter behind him. He chuckles lightly as he continues to kiss me.

Just as my hands find the curve of his ass, the front door burst open. We pull apart, but I leave my hands. The next noise we hear is, “Aww,” perfectly synced between two women. Ella and Maya.

“You guys are so cute together,” El squeals as Maya shuts the door and turns the alarm off. “You’re adorable!”

Our curly-haired friend laughs as she grabs my best friend by her biceps, “As much as I agree, she needs a bed. And water.” They stop as the fridge for a second to grab a bottle, but continue on afterward.

Once they’re gone, Henry turns back to me, “You need to go to work.”

“Mm,” I agree as I lean forward to press our lips together again.

“I mean it,” he says between kisses. Backing me up, he directs us to the door still locked at our mouths. “It’s not going to be my fault,” kiss, “that a killer get away,” kiss,” because my,” kiss, “boyfriend,” smirking kiss, “can’t keep,” kiss, “his hands to,” kiss, “himself.”

As he says the last word, my back hits the small portion of wall next to our front door.

“Do you have everything?” He asks as he opens the door.

I shake my head, “Nope.”

“What are you missing?”

“This,” I pull his face back to mine and tangle our tongues together.

For a second, he seems to sink into it. But he recovers quickly and breaks away, pushing me out into the apartment complex’s hallway, “Go to work.”

He blows me a kiss and shuts the door. I contemplate going back in, but when I hear him turn the lock, I just chuckle.

With a smile on my face, I start to make my way to the stairs, when I realize I really don’t have everything. Tapping on the door, I call out his name.

“Go to work,” is the response I get from him.

I knock again, “I really did forget something.”

“Oh yea?” He doesn’t sound convinced.

“Looking on the island, dear.”

I hear him laugh and then a few footsteps. He opens the door as hands me my stuff, “Go to work.”

“You’re cute,” I tell him as stand up straighter to reach his lips for a quick peck.

Then, without more argument, I go to work.

As luck has it, Sanders and I get a case. And I just know that it’s going to be a late night. When it gets to be eight at night, with no end in sight, I decide that I should probably let Henry know that I’m going to be late. Just in case, you know, he’s making dinner or something.

Letting Sanders know that I’m going to take short break, I walk over to one of the interview room and dial up my boyfriend.

He answers on the third ring as I sit down in one of the chairs, “Hello?”

“Hey, it’s me.”

“Hey babe, where are you?”

“I’m working on a case.”

“When are you going to be home?”

“I’m not sure yet.”

“Have you eaten?”

I lean back in the small metal chair, “I don’t get a break. I just want to keep going.”

“Can I bring you something?” He pauses for a second, but then continues, “I made pulled pork, homemade fries, and corn. The girls and I already ate, but there’s enough for you and your partner left. Ella says she can bring it up if you’d rather her do it.”

I can hear her in the background agreeing, but I shake my head, “Why don’t you bring it up with her? She knows where the squad room is and everyone knows her.”

“We’ll be up soon,” I can hear the smile in his voice.

About a half hour later, I hear Ella down the hall before I see them enter the room.

“Hey guys,” I jump up from my desk along with Sanders to greet them.

As I hold onto Henry, El gives Sanders a big hug and says, “It’s been forever, Uncle Sandy.”

“You’re hopeless,” he tells her, but he’s smiling.

Turning to them both, I place my hand on my boyfriend’s back, “Henry this is Sanders. Sanders this is our roommate,” I smile at him, “and my boyfriend, Henry.”

They shake hands, “I’ve heard a lot about you.”

Henry’s face turns pink as he look uncomfortable, “Good things, I hope.”

“Since the day he met you,” Sanders confirms with a nod as I shoot him a glare.

My newest roommate looks over at me confused, “Really?”

“You brought food,” I duck the question and smile at him.

He shakes his head, but hands over the bag. It smells delicious. I motion for them to follow me over to our desks and offer Henry my chair. Ella takes Sanders’ without prompt; he stands behind her.

“Henry’s an amazing cook,” I tell the man I share my work with. “I hope you’re up for some barbecue.”

“It smells amazing,” he comments as I hand him a container.

Each of the two containers is filled with a heaping plateful of food; one for me and one for Sanders. Ella probably told him to package them this way. But Sanders is right: it smells delicious.

As I place my food on my desk, Captain Walsh walks passed, “Sanders, Ashton, if you two are going to have visitors, take it to the break room. Otherwise, out,” he points over his shoulder to the exit of the squad room. A smirk comes to his face, “And good to see you, Ella. And who I presume is Henry,” he waves over his shoulder as he continues through the room without another word.

I look over at Sanders with a raised eyebrow, “How does he know about Henry?”

“Captain knows everything,” he shrugs his shoulders, not looking up from the container he’s opening.

“Alright guys,” I look between my two roommates, “you heard the man.”

Henry stands from my seat a little awkwardly. He puts his hands in his pockets and looks at me with big eyes.

Seeing Ella giving Sanders a hug behind him, I decide to show mercy. My hugs snake around his waist between his arms and body. Lightly, I press my lips to his for a second before pulling away, “I’ll see you when I get home.”

He kisses me again chastely before I pull away.

“Hey,” he turns just before he leaves the room behind El. He looks over at her, “Go on, I’ll catch up. I forgot to tell Blain something.”

She waves to me before saying, “You two a little lovebirds.”

He walks up to me and leans to speak softly in my ear, “Toby sent me a text. He wants us to Skype him without Ella knowing about it.”

Ignoring the shivers running down my body, I ask just as quietly, “Why didn’t he text me?”

“Said he did,” was the answer, “you didn’t answer, so he tried me. Apparently it’s a time concern; wants to talk to us tonight.”

“I’ll be home late.”

“He doesn’t care about the time.”

I pull back to kiss him on the lips again, “Alright, I’ll call you when I’m on my way home.”

“What about-” he nods over to where Ella was standing.

“Make brownies when you get home and serve it to with warm milk. Warm milk is like her kryptonite. She’ll get really tired right after that,” I smirk and peck him on the lips yet again, “If that doesn’t work, tell Maya that you need Ella out of the house. She’ll probably know why because she talks to Toby almost as much as I talk to Brie.”

“You’re amazing,” he steals another kiss before he turns and walks away.

When I return to my desk, Sanders is looking across our work surface and smiling.

“What?” I question.

He just shakes his head and puts another bite in his mouth. As he chews he points down to his food with his fork, “This is reason enough to keep him. Don’t mess it up.”

I've been soo busy lately, sorry guys!! I wish I had more time!

Let me know what you guys think!

And I did a little switching of song. I moved Ho Hey here and Sweet Disposition to the last chapter. It fit better.
