AEAI 13

It’s during dessert that I lean back in my chair and look over at my stunning date. The whole night has been amazing. The conversation is as fluid as the champagne. We’ve been laughing and talking like we’ve known each other for years. The waiter has been really great about being around when we need him, but not too much to where we can’t enjoy our time together. And Henry; he’s been smiling all night.

His smile does something to my heart.

“Why did you kiss me out there?” It comes out of my mouth without thinking. I just feel like I need to know. This wonderful man in front of me has been timid the last week or so, but tonight he took charge. So, I clarify, “Not that I’m complaining.”

His cheek only pink slightly as he answers, “I’m not sure.” He looks down at his dessert, “I just kept hearing them say I was your boyfriend. But then I heard one of them say I was just another fling or something and I just wanted to prove them wrong.” He looks up at me from under his eyelashes, “At least, I hope so.”

“That guy was wrong,” I nod and lean closer to him. “I really want this to work.”

He nods, sitting back in his chair, “Can I tell you something?”

“Of course.”

“It’s just that,” he sighs and scoots his chair closer to the table. He extends his hands towards me and I take them without question. He trails his thumbs over my knuckles, looking there instead of up into my eyes, “I told you before that I’ve never wanted to be with anyone.” He swallows loudly, but doesn’t look up, “Well this is all terrifying for me because now… I do.”

Henry’s eyes then trail up to stare into mine. He does look scared, but also like he’s decided something.

I’m quick to shake my head and turn our hands so that I can intertwine our fingers, “Since you told me about not wanting to be with anyone, I’ve been thinking about it a lot. I think about you a lot,” I admit with a shrug. “But, if I’m honest,” I look straight into his eyes, “I understand that more than I first thought. Where you meant you didn’t have the urge to be with anyone at all; I’ve never wanted to stay with anyone.” I sigh and shake my head, “I’m no good with words, Henry, but try to hear me out.”

He smirks and nods for me to continue.

“Before you came around, I was all about the fast life. I never really thought about it because I never really cared about the people I was with,” my eyes shoot open at my own statement. “I mean-”

My date chuckles and shakes his head, moving his hands back so he can hold onto mine again, “You’ve told me who you were. I’m not going to run now.”

Then I get an idea, “You want to go for a walk? We can just walk back to the apartment. If we leave out the back, the paparazzi won’t know.”

He nods his head and says, “That sounds nice.”

I quickly get our waiters attention and pay the check. When he returns with my receipt, I ask if we can sneak out back. He tells us we can and to wait a few minutes so he can grab a manager to help us. True to his word, a female manager shows up minutes later and escorts us out.

“Shit,” I stop as we get to the back door. Henry raises an eyebrow, but I turn to the manager, “Is there any way you could tell our driver that we don’t need him anymore?”

“Of course, sir,” she says with a smile. “Is that anything else?”

I dig my wallet from my back pocket and hand her a hundred dollar bill, “Give this to him as a tip. I’ll call him to let him know we don’t need him as well so he doesn’t get suspicious.

“Very well, sir,” she nods and takes the money. “You two have a lovely evening and please come back and see us.”

“Thank you,” My boyfriend waves as she walks away. “Do you think she’ll keep that money?” He asks when she’s out of earshot.

I shake my head as I pull out my phone, “No, these are good people here.”

It only takes a minute to let the driver know we don’t need him and then we’re out the back door.

Henry and I link our finger as soon as we’re outside. The late spring weather is perfect for taking a stroll. And since no one knows we left the restaurant, we won’t be bothered. It’s dark and no one really notices faces. Even with big city lights, everyone is too preoccupied with their own lives to notice anyone else.

The walk is slow enough that we get to talk for a while. And just like every time before, the conversation is easy. But no matter how long we actually take, we get home too soon. I think I could have spent hours with him just walking and holding hands and talking and just being us. He makes life seamless.

As soon as we get into the flat, I lightheartedly call out to our roommate, but don’t receive an answer. The second time I don’t get a response, I find a note of the counter. It makes me laugh when I read over it:

Blenry,
I took the time to give you guys a couple name. You. Are. Welcome.
On a less awesome note, Maya and I decided that you shouldn’t be the only ones to have fun. We left you - at least for the night. Okay, only for the night. We’re having a girls’ night. Feel free to be as loud as you want. We won’t be home until late. You’ll probably be going to work as we come home.
(This means you can have loud sex.)
I love you both,
Ella

Handing it off to my new boyfriend, I take off my jacket and drape it over the back of the closest couch. As he reads it over with a smile on his face, I unbutton my cuffs and push up my sleeves.

He finally gets done with it and places it back on the counter, shaking his head, before taking off his own jacket.

As he places his next to mine, I snake my arms around his waist and look up into his eyes, “I would ask you if you wanted to watch a movie,” I throw in a wink, “but we both have to work in the morning.”

I continue to hold on as he unbuttons his own cuffs.

He chuckles as he wraps his arms around me, pressing me to his body, “Truly unfortunate.” He fakes a sigh and shakes his head, “What if we never see each other again?”

“Mm,” I agree and place my lips on his quickly, “I can’t let that happen. I’m just going to have to keep you with me so you can’t escape.”

He laughs again, “Is that right?” I nod as he continues, “What are you going to do – sit at the end of my bed?”

“Better,” I comment.

Henry tilts his head slightly, “And what’s better than that?”

“You’re just going to have to sleep in my room with me.”

He doesn’t even miss a beat as he pretends to consider it, “I guess it would have its advantages.”

“I agree. Do share yours.”

“Well,” he starts as he trails his hands up my back and then down my arms until he catches my elbows, “you would be able to keep an eye on me – make sure I don’t run away.” He moves my hands up so they’re around his neck and then looks down at me with a hitched eyebrow, “I won’t have to use cell phone minutes if I have a question.” That one makes me smile. He starts to trail his hands back down my side, “There’s safety in numbers.” As I chuckle, his fingertips find the curve of my butt and his palm rest on my hips, “And I can do this.”

In one swift motion, he lifts me off the floor and turns us so that my back is against the wall leading to our bedrooms. His lips find mine like they’ve always belonged together. He doesn’t hesitate. The kiss deepens immediately and I weave my finger through his hair.

I can’t even express how much I admire this side of him. It’s extremely sexy when he takes charge. It’s even more amazing because I know I’m the only one that gets to see it. This is the side of Henry only for Blain and to say it’s a turn on is an understatement.

Before I know it, he’s carrying me down the hall and we’re falling onto my bed.

When he pulls us up to the pillow and continues where we left off, I have to put my hands to his chest and push back, “Whoa, babe. I don’t want to take it too far.”

He sighs as he rolls off of me to the side. Running his hands through his already tousled hair, he turns to me, “I do.”

“You do what?”

Henry turns to his side completely and grabs my hands to pull me toward him, “I want to take it too far.”

“Henry,” I start to say, but I’m not really sure how to continue and roll to my back.

Luckily, he saves me from doing so, “No, listen.”

I do.

“I’m twenty-two years old and I’ve never had sex, but it’s not for lack of wanting.” The blonde moves so that he’s between my legs and staring up at me, “I’ve always thought I was weird because I couldn’t- I don’t even know how to say this.” He sighs again and says, “No one turned me on and that made me feel like something was wrong with me. Like in high school,” he grabs my thighs and makes himself comfortable. I place my hands behind my head and just listen, “I kept seeing all these couples kissing in the halls or I would hear these stories about people having sex for the first time. And I really wanted that, but there wasn’t anyone I wanted to have it with. I couldn’t feel what they were feeling and it was frustrating.”

He squeezes my thighs again gently as his upset frown turn to a smile, “But then I meet you. At first, it was the same as everyone else. I thought you were attractive, but I have some sort of brain blocker that won’t let me want more. And I knew you wanted me.” He chuckles at my shocked face, “I may not feel that particular emotion, but I know what it looks like.”

I let my left leg fall to the side causing him to lose his balance and roll off, “Jerk.”

He laughs again and choses to sidle up to my side. I turn my body to face him as he lies on the pillow next to me.

“Well, now,” he continues, “after we’ve spent so much time together and I can hardly stop myself from wanting to touch you all the time. I’m not sure why it’s like this, but I think it has to do with you taking the time to know me.”

I hitch an eyebrow, “You’re kidding, right?”

“No.”

“You say ‘taking the time’ like it was an effort on my part,” I clarify as I wrap my arms around his waist again. I make sure our faces are far enough away that we can still see each other, “I wish I had more time to spend with you. There’s not a thing that I don’t want to know about you.”

“Whatever you’ve done, you’ve gotten me to feel.” He takes a deep breath and closes his eyes to let it out. When he opens them again, he stares straight into mine, “It may seem silly, but I don’t want not feel again. I want to feel everything with you.” Henry gives me a pointed look.

“I don’t want to take your first time. It should be special.”

“First off,” my companion states, “you don’t have a choice about the first time thing. If you ever want to have sex with me, it will be my first time. I probably physically couldn’t do it with anyone else. And shouldn’t it me my choice who I want to give it to?”

“At least I don’t have to worry about you cheating,” I say it under my breath, but loud enough for him to hear. In return, he pinches my cheek – the one south of my equator, “Hey.”

He kisses my lips chastely, “Let me put it this way. Do you remember your first time?”

I close my eyes and shake my head, “Yea, it was horrible.”

“Exactly!”

“What?”

“No one’s first time is all romantic and good,” he chuckles. “This isn’t some lovey-dovey teen novel. This is the real world. Your first time is awkward and gross. You’re trying to figure everything out and it’s exciting because it’s new. Men don’t usually last very long and it’s something you spend the rest of your life laughing at.”

I can’t help the smile that comes over my face, “So?”

“So,” he drags it out with a smile on his face, “I want to have sex with you before I have sex with you.”

The statement makes me laugh, but I know exactly what he means. He wants to get the awkward out to the way before we get to the good part.

“Maybe we could-”

“Nope,” he interrupts me. “You’re not taking anything from me. You’re giving me something that one no else can. Something I don’t want from anyone else. You can do the romantic stuff later, but right now, I just want you. We're supposed to be together,” his eyes are so honest that it takes my breath away, "be with me."

I kiss his lips a little longer than just a peck.

Pulling away, my partner looks me over, “Is that a ‘yes’?”

“You’re mighty eager for a first date, Mr. Thomas,” I wiggle my eyebrows at him.

He responds by pushing me onto my back and lying on top of me. When he places himself between my legs, he hooks his hands under my knees and pulls me down to him. He claims my lips again with a haste that only makes me want him more.

Moving back just centimeters, Henry looks down at me, “Are you okay with this?”

“Are you asking me if I’m okay with sleeping with my extremely hot boyfriend who’s basically begging me for it?”

He chuckles, “I guess if you put it that way…”

“I do,” I nod, “put it that way, I mean. Also, I’m very okay with this.”

“Good.”

His smile is breathtaking as he swoops back down to take my mouth with his.

We’re kissing for a few minutes, really getting into it, when he pulls back to say, “So how do we do this?” and we both laugh.
