Another Life (2/3)
Aru woke up the next morning. And she was TIRED. Like, I'm almost dead tired. And that is never a good type of tired.
The Sleeper, A.K.A Aru's and Kara's father, was back from his mission. He and Kara had noticed right away at the morning updates. "Are you okay?" Kara asked. "Yup. I'm good," Aru said. Then she almost fell asleep with her eyes open. "Kara, I think your sister needs some rest," The Sleeper said, eyeing Aru carefully, "Why don't you take her to your room for the time being?". Kara nodded at the suggestion and slung on of Aru's arms over her shoulders. She practically dragged Aru away.
At the room, Kara started peppering her with questions about last night. "I don't know what you're talking about," Aru said, yawning. "Fine, if you're going to be that way. I heard Dad's giving us a mission today," Kara said. Aru sat up immediately. "Really?" She asked her sister. Kara nodded and said "If you tell me what happened yesterday, I won't tell Dad that you aren't mood to do anything,".
"What is this? Blackmail?" Aru said. Kara nodded. Aru scoured her head for a convincing lie. "Well, I sort of met this guy in dad's army..." She started, immediately peaking Kara interest. "Tell me everything, right now," She demanded. "Uh, bit aggressive, aren't we?" Aru said. She flopped back down on the bed. "I got his number, and I was texting him last night," Aru said, hugging a pillow to her chest for extra effect. "What's his name?" Kara asked. "Aiden," was the first thing that came to mind. Something flashed in Aru's brain. A boy. Was that Aiden?
"What's he look like?"
"Dark brown hair that falls over his eyes, and his eyes! They're so... dazzling!" Aru said, trying to sound lovesick. It... wasn't actually hard.
"That sounds like an apsara! There's only a few of them in the army!" Kara squealed. "Relax, you sound like..." Aru paused, feeling a sense of familiarity. From whom, she didn't know. "Nevermind," Aru said. Kara didn't pay attention to it and said "I'll tell Dad that you didn't get enough sleep last night because you were up reading,". "Thank you." Aru smiled.
A knock sounded from the door. "One second!" Kara called out. She pulled Aru up off her bed. And then she kicked Aru in the stomach. Hard. But not too hard. It wasn't like, "oof, now I'm coughing up blood" hard, but more like "ow, that hurt, but now my whole body's awake and I want to kick you back" hard.
Aru held her stomach where Kara had kicked. That was probably going to bruise. "What was that for?" She almost shouted it. "You're awake now, aren't you?" Kara might've smirked, but she was looking the other way, so Aru couldn't see it.
Kara opened the door to Takshaka, one of The Sleeper's second in commands. "Your father would like to know if you both are fine to come back to the meeting," He said. "Yes, of course. One minute." Kara closed the door. She motioned for Aru to come. Aru walked over and the sisters walked back to the meeting.
When the sisters got there, their father sent a reluctant Takshaka away. "Father," they said, sitting down. "I'm sure you've heard about the mission," The Sleeper said. Aru and Kara nodded. "We're ambushing the Pandavas and I want my best working with it. And that just happens to be you two."
Aru smirked, glowing from from the praise as sparks flew off of Vajra. Sunny shined brighter from Kara's fingers. "Who's our team?" Kara asked. "I'll have Takshaka overlook this, along with with a team of 20," He said.
"20?" Both of them asked at the same time.
"That seems like a bit too little." Kara had said that.
"That's a lot of people for just..." Aru quickly counted on her fingers "5 people, two of them being like, 5. If you count the naga, 6." Aru said that.
"Arundhati." Aru bit her tongue to stop herself from correct her father. She hated when he called her that. "You underestimate them." He pulled up a holographic map of the Otherworld, straight out of the table. Aru jumped back, only to be pushed forward again by her sister.
How come I never knew that was there? Aru asked herself I sneak around here all the time.
"And Kara, you overestimate them. And underestimate yourself. " He zoomed in on the Night Bazaar.
Wow, way to play favorites, Aru thought.
"You both have the strength and power of 50 of my soldiers, maybe even twice as much. According to my sources, the Pandavas will be here in a couple hours." He zoomed in at one of the entrances.
"The both of you will split up, taking 10 soldiers each. Kara, Takshaka will be with you."
Aru let out a silent breath.
"Both of your teams will attack at the same time, but not you two. Wait until all the soldiers have been killed by the Pandavas. Then you strike." The hologram had displayed the plan perfectly. But Aru was concerned about one tiny piece.
Aru scrunched up her face. "So we're just going to sacrifice their lives for this?" She asked. The Sleeper looked u at her. "They know what they're here for, and if they aren't willing to sacrifice their lives for our cause, then they shouldn't be here at all," Kara said, putting a hand on her sister's shoulder, but Aru brushed it off. "But that's just cruel!" She exclaimed, anger bubbling in her.
"Sometimes, you have to be cruel to get what you want. How else do you think I got where I am today? And if you aren't willing to go on this mission, I could always give it to someone else," The Sleeper said, his blue and brown eyes piercing through her . Aru took a breath and shook her head. She had been working too hard to finally get a mission, and she wasn't about to give it up.
"I'll come. And I'll make sure it's a success."

Aiden didn't know what to expect when he entered the Night Bazaar with the rest of the Potatoes. Apparently there was something going wrong, and the Potatoes needed to fix it.
But when they got there, the place was empty. No one was in there. "Where is everyone?" Brynne asked. Nikita and Sheela weren't there with them, so it was just Mini, Aiden, and Brynne.
"I... don't know," Mini said, taking Dee Dee out of her backpack. She flipped it open. Her eyes widened. She looked at Brynne, before she had the same reaction.
"Behind you!" Brynne called out to Aiden. Aiden whirled around, unsheathing his scimitars and blocking a Rakshasa's attack. There was a good 10 Rakshasi, and they were surrounding them quickly.
They were closed in. Their back were against each other. "It was a trap, wasn't it?" Aiden said. Mini and Brynne nodded. "You wanna see who can take down the most?" Brynne asked. "You always want to turn everything into a competition, Brynne," Mini sighed, gripping Dee Dee harder. Brynne had been noticeably more upbeat since they had got the news about Shah last night.
"Why not?" Brynne said. "Sure," Aiden said. Guess he was in the mood too. "You two are idiots," Mini said.
It all happened in a second. One moment, the trio were back to back, surrounded by Rakshasi, the next, they were bombarded by 10 more from above. It was so sudden, Mini barely had time to summon a shield over their heads, trapping 4 inside with them. Aiden dodged an attack from one of them. Two of them were ganging up on Mini, making the shield flicker slightly, along with more banging on the walls.
Aiden parried a strike from the Rakshasa he was fighting, falling into a roll as his scimitars clashed against their sword. He regained his ground quickly, slicing forward. It scraped their arm slightly, and they wasted no time attacking back. Aiden was pushed the ground again, but the Rakshasi was knocked to the side, Brynne standing behind with GoGo on her shoulder. "That's two for me," she smirked, holding out her hand. Aiden took it, glancing at Mini, who had one of the two down on the ground, unmoving.
Aiden and Brynne attacked the last demon inside the dome. Mini kicked the Rakshasi towards them, and they succeeded with knocking them out.
"That one counts for me," Aiden said as the three backed up, back to back, in the middle of the shield. Brynne rolled her eyes. "Whatever."
"On three, I'll take down the shield," Mini said. The other two voiced their agreements, and Mini started counting.
"0."
Mini gripped Dee Dee in a proper battle stance.
"1."
Brynne held GoGo in front of her, ready to attack any demon beyond the shield.
"2."
Aiden hands wrapped tighter around the hilts of his scimitars, awaiting the battle before them. He was liking the odds.
"3."
Right on cue, the purple barrier disappeared, and the Night Bazaar dissolved into chaos.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Aru could not watch the battle . 10 of the soldiers were either knocked out or dead on the ground of the Night Bazaar. The way they were just unnecessarily sacrificing, no, wasting their lives, made Aru want to vomit.
"Arundhati?" Takshaka's voice boomed in her ear. Aru winced. The mic Aru had trained with had a volume setting for responses, unlike these ones. And it was loud. "Yes?" She whispered in response.
"It's time."
Aru froze. She looked down at the battle displaying below her, and saw that there were only 3 left fighting. How'd they...? Aru shook it off.
It's either a success, or I die trying. And I don't want to die.
"On it." Aru said. She took the mic out of her ear and dropped it. It broke on impact with the ground Anything that ran on electricity in a one mile radius was deemed unsafe.
Now of course, the Otherworld was powered on magic, but there was science behind it, okay? There was the occasional cell phone tower, and this happened to have three surrounding it, one of which Aru was at the hanging off of at the moment.
It was around a good 50 feet tall, and Aru was at the top, trying not to fall as she shuffle towards the cords. Vajra sparked, and Aru held it away from the wire. Not yet!
Aru waited for the cue. If her timing was right, it would happen in 5...4...3...2...1...
BOOM!
The pure force of the explosion itself nearly knocked Aru off the tower, her feet slipping off the bar they were on. She pulled herself back up, silently counting down from 60. That's how long Kara and Takshaka had to get out of the perimeter. With Sunny, they would get out in thirty seconds minimum.
The explosion was made of a sonic blast, pure force, and then a paralysis toxin. The Pandavas would be stuck, and on Aru turn, she would electrocute all the living things in the area, therefore knocking them out, severely injuring them, and maybe even killing them in process.
And if they weren't dead, they'd take them back to base, and get some info, and then kill them.
Kinda harsh if you asked Aru. But her opinion didn't matter here.
Aru held Vajra to the cord. The light dimmed for e second, and then it's lightning spreading across the wires like wildfire. And then it shot through, looking for any organic matter for it to conduct through. Aru's hair frizzed up again, like always.
After 10 seconds, the electricity retracted back to the cords, and Aru went to collect the bodies. She could only pray they weren't dead.
Aiden only remembered getting paralyzed, and then getting knocked out with a jolt. When he woke up, he was not happy to see... nothing.
There was a blindfold over his eyes and a gag in his mouth. He could tell Brynne was beside him because of the constant moving, kicking and muffled yelling. Mini was probably on his other side, muttering slokhas, prayers to the gods.
"-ourse they're still alive! They're fucking Pandavas!" Aiden could barely make out the words. It had a venomous twist to it. "Stop being so sour about that! It had to be done!" Another voice said.
"Of course you agree with him! I'm Kara, and I'll do anything The Sleeper says, even if it costs the lives of 20 living beings, because I'm just a huge SUCK UP!"
"My gosh, you're going to have to get used to it if you want to go on more missions!" Aiden was pretty sure that was Kara.
The door opened, and the three of them immediately stopped moving.
Light footfall surrounded them. "Are they breathing?" One of the voices said. "Yes. They were active just before you both came inside." That wasn't one of the voices from before. Were there people watching them?
"Leave."
"But Ma'am-"
"Now." That was Kara.
"Of course." Footsteps led themselves away from the room and the door shut. Aiden felt his hair lift up slightly.
A flash of heat went across his face and the gag and blindfold was burned away. Two hooded figures stood in front of him.
"You are going to answer all our questions, or they-"One of the figures pointed towards a knocked out Brynne and Mini "-die."
