Thanksgiving Dinner Part 2
Note: I looked up a lot of these Indian dishes online, at this website: https://www.masterclass.com/articles/all-about-indian-cuisine-the-most-popular-dishes-and-where-to-start#what-the-most-popular-indian-dishes
Aru sat down between Brynne and Mini.
"This. Looks. Amazing!" Aru said.
The table was heaped with steaming plates of biryani and kofta, bowls of chana masala and dal makhani, samosas, and naan, alongside glasses of creamy mango lassi.
On Brynne's other side sat Nikki and Sheela, next to Aiden - who sat across from Aru - and, finally, Rudy on Mini's other side. They had invited Hira as well, but she hadn't been able to make it. The Potatoes had a table to themselves; their parents and Mini's brother were eating in another room.
As they started to dig into the savory dishes, they talked about things like school and their latest projects. Aiden was working on a series of pet portraits for the school newspaper. Brynne had been working on inventing a new dish, while Rudy had been trying to show his family more about how he was able to hear stones and make magic with them. Nikki and Sheela had nothing major going on; their birthday was coming up in December, though. (I have no idea when their birthday is; I don't think it's mentioned in the third book, but I might have missed it, so please tell me whether this is accurate if you know.) Mini had been practicing for her school's upcoming talent show; she was thinking of doing a couple of magic tricks with Dee Dee. Aru, for her part, had absolutely nothing important to mention to them. She just ate and listened, occasionally voicing her opinion about one thing or another.
They all finished eating, and helped wash the dishes. Then the Potatoes flopped down in the living room and watched a movie that had just been released, called "Over the Moon". (I watched this movie recently and really enjoyed it :D) Aru thought about the Indian moon god, Chandra, and how his power grew and diminished, which caused the moon phases. Suddenly, she remembered Chandra's elevator and what Aiden said to her. She was fairly sure now that she had been dreaming about that. She glanced sideways at Aiden, sitting next to her on the couch. He turned to her and grinned, and Aru averted her eyes. There was no way he would actually have said that in Chandra's elevator, was there? She mentally dismissed the thought and focused on the movie.
