Studying for Midterms (Aruden)

I'm having midterms in a week, so I decided to attempt a story where the Potatoes have midterms... and chose to incorporate Aruden as well :D

"Uggghhhhhhh", Aru groaned loudly.

It was Sunday night, 6:07 pm, and she was desperately trying to study for her semester finals, the first of which - History, Algebra, and Physical Education (PE, or Pointless Exercise, as Aru liked to call it)- were tomorrow.

She banged her head on the table. She was wearing a fluffy sky-blue sweater over blue jeans, with Vajra on as a bracelet, and she currently had her History binder out, trying to cram all the significant historical events and dates into her brain. Aru honestly couldn't see the point of memorizing things she would never use as an adult. If she wanted to become a history professor, she'd need it, but Aru would rather poke her eye out with a marshmallow stabby thing, roast it... like a marshmallow... and eat it... than teach such a mundane subject.

Aru sighed. At least the Potatoes were coming over to study with her in a couple of minutes. That was the only thing that could make studying... somewhat enjoyable.

Suddenly her phone buzzed multiple times. She picked it up, and saw a text from each of the Potatoes except Aiden. They all said almost the exact same thing: "Sorry, I can't make it tonight. Have fun with Aiden ;P"

Aru was furious. They had set this up! She knew her sisters had been shipping her with Aiden for a long time, but...

Just then, the doorbell rang. It must be Aiden, she thought. Aru internally groaned, but at the same time, her heart did a little jump. She went over to the door and opened it.

Aiden was nervously fiddling with Shadowfax in the doorway. He was wearing his usual green hoodie and dark jeans, and he had his backpack on. He looked up when the door opened.

"Hey, Shah," he said.

"Hey, Wifey," Aru said. She let him in and led him to her room, where her studying materials were.

"Apparently - " he started to say.

"-The others 'can't make it'," Aru finished, using air quotes. She got out an extra chair for him.

"Yeah..." He had a funny look on his face.

"So, shall we make a futile effort to study for midterms, also known as excruciatingly painful and pointless tests?"

Aiden grinned. "I guess so."

They sat down and continued to uselessly stare at their books.

••••••••••Time skip•••••••••••

Despite the banal work they were doing, Aru was having a lot of fun. Occasionally she would ask Aiden to quiz her on the content from her notes, she would get everything wrong, and they would just laugh. She knew it was pointless to study, but simply sitting with Aiden was enjoyable. Every now and then, he would try to crack a random joke, Aru wouldn't get it, and it would get really awkward.

Aru checked the time. 7:32 pm.

"When did your mom say for you to be back at home?" Aru asked Aiden.

"Uhh, I think it was 7:40 or something."

"Oki doki."

Aaand then it was suddenly 7:41, and Aiden stood.

"I gotta go," he said.

"Oh... okay." Aru was a tiny bit disappointed, though she couldn't pinpoint why.

Aiden hesitated.

"...Yes? How can I help you?" Aru asked teasingly.

He didn't say anything. Then, before Aru could react, he swiftly leaned in and kissed her on the cheek.

"Bye, Shah. Thanks, and, uh... see you tomorrow." He quickly left.

Aru just sat there. What...just happened??  Then she realized...that little tug of disappointment was gone.

She stayed like that for a considerable amount of time, trying to process it, but then she heard the front door open, and Aru's mom called out, "Aru? I'm home!"

"Uh...be right there!" Aru yelled back. She suddenly couldn't stop grinning. When she got downstairs, she was still smiling stupidly, and her mom gave her a puzzled look.

"What's gotten into you, Aru?"

"Nothing," Aru lied. "Absolutely nothing."

Aaahhhh this is not very good...... but I wanted to see what you think I could do better so pleeeease comment :)

Also, probably all my Aruden stories will be a first-time thing...like, none of them will be at a time when they are already dating (probably), if you know what I mean.
