31: SkyPainter Contest Entry
Ah, this is way late. Well, technically I'm not actually late, but I sure waited a long time. Anyway, let's get right to it! This is an entry for my dude Air, who months ago started a contest pertaining to her closed species, the Painters. The task was, put simply, to make a Painter for her to potentially use in her upcoming story, Saving Skies.
(Please note that SkyPainters, CloudPainters, BreezePainters, and all the lore that goes with them belong to Air-row exclusively. The Painters are a closed species, and outside the contest, I have her permission to own the Painters I already have. Please respect this and don't go making one without her permission! Thank you!)
With that out of the way... here she is!
So, Air, allow me to introduce Meadow Mist, a SkyPainter mare in the Dawn Sector!
//Personality//
Meadow has a pretty mellow and down-to-Earth personality, making her great at solving conflicts. Her friends know her to be a peacemaker, due to her level head. This, coupled with her sharp wit, have gotten her out of many sticky situations. She's usually very pleasant and loves to laugh, but she does sometimes struggle with feelings of inadequacy, which affects her mood at times. (She can be a bit of a grump when she feels like she isn't living up to her expectations of herself.)
//A Bit of Background//
Meadow is her parents' second child. Her parents are both Painters; her mother was born to a Painter family, and her childhood best friend became a Painter through her. (And later, he married her.) In addition, though Meadow's older brother didn't become a Painter, he eventually discovered his talent was instead in SkyPaint Crafting. These things are what give Meadow her motivation; she strives to make her family proud.
From the moment it was apparent that Meadow's talent would indeed be in SkyPainting, her parents began teaching her everything they knew. And then, at 11 years old, she finally earned her cutie mark and her markings. To this day, eight years later, she regards her induction ceremony to be the best day of her life.
//Quirks and Fun Facts//
-- She has trouble staying still, especially when nervous or uncomfortable. She feels that she needs to be constantly moving (i.e. tapping her hoof, pacing, bouncing in place). It helps her think.
-- Though she is skilled at painting the sky, the same unfortunately cannot be said about her artistic skill on paper...
-- She likes to sing while Painting.
-- She has a fear of total darkness, as well as small spaces.
-- Her SkyPaint leg gear, while primarily is meant to hold her pigments, doubles as a brace. Her front left leg is juuust a bit weaker than the rest; its a very subtle thing and doesn't impair her movement, but it does make that leg more prone to injury. The brace serves as a precaution and allows her the peace of mind to be able to move freely without fear of hurting herself.
There, almost done! The final part of the entry is a short little passage written from Meadow's point of view, so here is that!

I am up before the sun, rising early each day to prepare for its first rays. I am the morning, the first birdsong. I am...
"...Late!" I groaned, scrambling about my home. "Sol! Did you move my SkyPaint brace? I can't find it. The sun is going to come up any second, and I'm certain I left it on its hook..." As I called to my brother, Winter Solstice, I made my way to his room. Poking my muzzle into the doorway, I heaved a sigh of relief.
There it was, laying on Winter's desk. He was wearing his specially made SkyPaint handler gloves, so I could only assume he was refilling my pigment pouches. He looked up as I entered the room. "Oh, hey Meadow. Sorry for making you worry, I was just refilling your pigments. Here, I'm all done!" He closed up the last pouch and handed me the brace, quirking a smile.
This was one of the best things about my big brother being a SkyPaint Crafter; re-supplying my SkyPaints was so much easier. I returned his smile and hugged him, pulling back to speak. "Thanks, Sol," I said gratefully. Then, pulling the brace onto my front left leg, I stood up and flexed it to make sure it was on properly. When I was sure that it was, I grinned and turned toward the door. "Gotta dash now. The sunrise isn't going to paint itself!" After a quick wave, I trotted out of the room and through my front door. Looking up, I could already see some other Painters from the Dawn Sector at work.
With an inward smile, I spread my wings and gave a powerful leap. And then I was airborne. I quickly flew up to join my sector, pigments at the ready.
And then, as the first rays of sun emerged over the horizon, I painted the sky.

There! And now, if I'm not mistaken, that should be all. I'm super excited for this! Even if I don't win, I'm so glad to have made this character. I love her to pieces, and I hope you guys do too!
Well, Air, here's my entry. I look forward to seeing the results!
