the ambulance arrived immediately after i had called.

 they lifted olivia's  lifeless body on to the stretcher, and slid her into the back.

 seeing her like this; it made me sick.

 i jumped into the back of the ambulance and choked on a sob.

 her skin was pale as snow and her chest was barely moving.

i pushed a strand of hair away from her face then grasped her hand tightly in mine.

her chest rose and fell in a steady rhythm as her nostrils flared every time she exhaled.

the sound of her breathing was the only thing i needed to hear.

an iv tube was plunged into her arm, a clear liquid surging into her arm.

her finger twitched as we arrived at the hospital and i was forced out of the ambulance.

as the paramedic pulled her out of the ambulance, i saw the most glorious thing.

her eyes fluttered open, and she began choking on her breath.

 she looked right at me as tears slid down her face.

"why?" she whispered as they took her away.
