Baby its cold outside - Part 6 - Arthur x Reader
Arthur absentmindedly pulled the broad brush down his cheek. The white paint spreading out in a thick line over his face, as he looked beyond his own image in the mirror. Last night, he was sure that he had floated home. That instead of walking, he had drifted along on a cloud not noticing any of the journey. In truth, it all seemed a little too good to be true. He had got to his age and never had any luck with women. Been completely ignored by the fairer sex if he were to be honest. But over the last couple of days, all his dreams and prayers seemed to have been answered. A woman..........a real live woman had not only been on a date with him, but also wanted another. Wanted him to stick around. Now admittedly, he had pinched himself a couple............well, a few times on the way back to his own apartment just to make sure that he wasn't dreaming. In one case, so hard that he was sure that he had drawn blood. Thankfully finding though, that he wasn't just having a wonderful dream, and this whole thing was real. And the fact that he had woken that morning with the scrap of paper that (Y/n) had scribbled her phone number on still gripped in his hand, had just affirmed that.
"Hi Arthur." A voice suddenly came, causing Arthur to jump and send the brush full of face paint right up into his hair.
"How did last night go...........?" Gary continued with a soft chuckle, as his friend pulled some tissues from a box and tried to wipe the white makeup from the strands of his hair.
"Oh, hi Gary. It went...............it went well............." Arthur replied quietly, a small smile pulling at the very corners of his lips, as he threw the dirty tissues in the trashcan and dipped his brush back into the white paint.
"So...........? Are you gonna she her again..........?" The little man continued, as he hopped up onto the seat next Arthur.
"I........I'm calling her tonight. She..........I mean, (Y/n), said that she would like to see me again.................."
"That's great, Arthur. She must have really fallen for your charms............" Gary replied cheerily. Smiling as he saw the brighter look on his taller friends face. A look that spoke of optimism; that spoke of hope, and happiness. Arthur unable to stop himself from chuckling slightly, as he recalled (Y/n)'s saying that she had already fallen for him once, thanks to the icy conditions.
"(Y/n) said something along those lines herself last night. She told me I was gallant. That I was really King Arthur and all I needed was a round table and Excalibur, and that maybe she might be my Guinevere.............."
"Gallant..........? King Arthur................? Well, it sounds like you really did make a good impression. Good for you Arthur, you deserve it." The little man replied. His tiny hand giving a reassuring pat to Arthur's arm before he jumped back down from the chair.
"Now, all you have to do is remember to call her............."
>>----------------------------------<<
"Now, all you have to do is remember to call her............." Gary's words had rung in Arthur's head all day. As if he would forget to call, when all of this could lead to something wonderful. As if he would forget to call, when a sweet, wonderful and beautiful woman said that she wanted to see him again. As if he would forget to call, when all he had been able to do was dream about it and think about talking to (Y/n) all day. When he so wanted to hear her voice again. Hear her laugh. The clown's hand now hesitating over the receiver of the phone. His mouth dry and his palms sweating as he picked it up, and straightened out the slightly creased scrap of paper that showed the phone number.
Carefully he dialed the number, his heart sinking into his stomach as the ring tone was heard. What if she hadn't meant it? What if (Y/n) had only been pretending and she was just being nice until she could get away from him? What if this wasn't even her number and she.............."
"Hello..........?" A voice came. Arthur's heart now in his throat, as he heard (Y/n)'s voice.
"H-h-hi. (Y/n). It..........its me Arthur................."
"Oh, Arthur, hi. I have been thinking about you. I was hoping that you really meant it when you said that you would call. I had the worst feeling that you were only being nice when you said you wanted another date." (Y/n)'s voice continued. The clown finding himself staring at the receiver in disbelief. Finding it hard to believe that (Y/n) was having the same kind of fears as he was. That they had both been worrying about the same things. And that just like he had been thinking about her all day, she had been thinking about him.
"I............I've been thinking about you too." Arthur replied, feeling his cheeks heat up. Sure, at this moment he must resemble a tomato.
"Well, it's nice to know I made an impression. Hopefully it was a good one............."
A good one? How could she have not made a good impression on him? She had pulled him from the freezing temperatures. Allowed him to spend the day with her so that he didn't get in trouble. She had listened to him. Not treated him like some kind of weirdo. Spoken to him like he was a human being. And then, she had gone on a date with him. Spending more time with him. Laughing at his silly jokes. Smiling as he had told her more about his life and work. And then.........then, at the end of the night, she had kissed him. He had felt her lips on his, and even though it had only been for a brief moment, he was sure that he could still fell them. Could still taste them.
"You made a very good impression............" Arthur told her shyly. A smile coming to his face, as he heard (Y/n) giggle. The clown getting the funniest feeling that she was flustered as he was feeling.
"Oh, that's good to know. I wouldn't want to make a bad impression on King Arthur, now, would I? I tell you what, why don't you tell me about your day and what you've been thinking, and then..........then we can talk about us going on that second date..............." (Y/n) added. Arthur finding himself taking a seat and carrying on from where they had finished the night before. Not noticing as the sky outside got dark, and filled with stars.
