The Giant and the Imp - Part 2
The second part of my little flight of fancy, I hope you forgive me for such a silly little imagine, but I couldn't help myself. 😊
Arthur couldn't help but chuckle at his new little friend as the two made their way from her world, and back into the normal park, her mouth and eyes opening wide as she finally saw the true extent of what lay beyond the iron gates.
As discreetly as possible, Arthur tried to answer the multitude of questions that were bombarding him, as the little imp sat on his shoulder, staring in awe at the enormous buildings, and the other giants that populated his world.
"(Y/n)?" Arthur finally managed to ask, the tiny creature holding tightly to the lock of his hair, as they had their way up the mountainous flight of stairs.
"How long have you been on your own in that garden?" He asked, noticing that the imp's smile had turned a little sad.
"I'm not really on my own, I have the animals and the insects to keep me company; but I can't ever remember seeing another imp, or any other fairy folk. I've always been on my own, always looked after the garden, it's always been just me." (Y/n) said sadly, as she leaned against Arthur's neck.
"You are the first real friend that I have ever had." She said, quickly wiping away the glistening tear that rolled down her cheek.
Arthur couldn't help but feel empathy for the little imp; for all of his life he had felt alone, he knew the pain of loneliness, the pain of feeling unwanted, the pain of feeling that you were the only one; but whether (Y/n) was a figment of his imagination or not, he felt happy that (Y/n) thought of him as her friend.
"Cheer up little one, let's get you to my apartment, and show you what it's like in there. I know it's not much, and it's not as beautiful as your garden; but it's home." Arthur told her, trying to distract the little woman as they entered his building.

As night drew in, Arthur readied a little bed for (Y/n), watching with a smile as she yawned and stretched before rubbing her eyes.
"Can you show more tomorrow, show me more of what you called the city?" (Y/n) asked, as Arthur tucked her into the makeshift bed.
"Well I would, but I have to go to work tomorrow." Arthur said apologetically, as (Y/n) sat up, curiosity in her eyes.
"Work? What is work? Can I go there with you?" (Y/n) asked, fluttering up in front of Arthur's face.
"Well." Arthur began, rubbing the back of his neck as he tried to work out the best way of explaining payed employment to an imp.
"You see, in my world, I have to do a job to earn money so that I can pay for this apartment and bills, it's a little hard to explain; and I don't think that would be a good idea for you to come, what if people were to see you, and there are some not so nice giants where I work." Arthur tried to explain.
"But you said that you would look after me." (Y/n) said, dropping back down on her bed, and showing Arthur he swollen ankle.
"And I want to be with you Arthur, you're my friend." (Y/n) told him, pouting slightly, and giving him her best puppy dog eyes.
Despite wanting to leave her safely in the apartment, Arthur couldn't help but give in to her request. "If that is what you wish little one, then that is what we will do." Arthur promised, smiling to himself as (Y/n) closed her eyes.
Arthur slide under his covers, half not wanting to sleep as he peered over to where the tiny woman was laying, fearing that if he did he may wake up to find that his beautiful new friend was all a dream, a wonderful figment of his imagination.
"Giant." (Y/n) suddenly said, bringing Arthur back from his thoughts.
"Could I sleep with you? It's cold here, and there are no sounds of the insects to lull me to sleep." (Y/n) asked, as Arthur chuckled.
"Of course, lit..........." Arthur began, but before could finish (Y/n) was lying on his chest, humming happily as she listened to his heartbeat.
"Good night Arthur." (Y/n) said with a yawn as she closed her eyes.
>>-------------------------------<<
Gary couldn't help but stare at his friend as he peaked into the empty locker room to see Arthur who seemed to be talking happily to himself, waving his arms around dramatically as if talking to someone else.
"Are ya feelin alright?" Gary asked, finally coming up to his friend.
Suddenly Gary was alerted when he heard a tiny little squeak, and then something dart as quick as a flash inside Arthur 's jacket.
"What the hell was that?" Gary asked, furrowing his brows in confusion as Arthur began to look a little shocked.
"You....... you mean that you can see her too?" Arthur asked, as Gary continued to look at the spot where the little thing had disappeared to.
"See what too? What the hell was that Arthur?" Gary asked, his eyes growing wide as (Y/n) poked her head out from inside Arthur 's jacket, laughing slightly as Gary stumbled backwards, unable to believe what he was seeing.
Suddenly popping out from her hiding spot, (Y/n) fluttered around Gary. "Are you fairy folk? You're not a giant like Arthur, you look more like an earth dweller, not as though I've ever really seen one of those." (Y/n) mussed, as she came to rest on Arthur's shoulder.
"(Y/n) I would like you to meet my friend Gary; Gary, I would like you to meet (Y/n) the Imp." Arthur said, as (Y/n) flew down and stared at Gary's face.
"Are you going to eat me?" (Y/n) asked, looking at the still dumbfounded Gary.
"Well even though you look very tasty, I am sure that you might be a bit too crunchy for me." Gary said eventually, smiling as the little woman flitted off to search the locker room.
"How?...... Where?.......What's goin on?" Gary asked, looking up at Arthur, who wasn't sure whether he was relieved or not that Gary could see the little lady.
"I must admit that I am still not quite sure myself, and it's a little hard to explain; but I found her injured and offered to watch over her until she recovers, and she insisted on coming with me." Arthur tried to explain, to his confused little friend.
"She's quite a beautiful little creature." Arthur mussed, as he watched his little imp flit from one object to another.
"Giant!" (Y/n) called out alerting the two men, Arthur coughing uncomfortably as Gary smiled.
"Giant? Really?" Gary chuckled, watching as Arthur began to blush slightly.
"Yes, giant." Arthur told him, shrugging as he walked off to find (Y/n).
>>-------------------------------------<<
As Arthur danced around the children's ward, he couldn't help but notice that out of all the children, only one seemed to have noticed the tiny little creature that had come along with him; he watched as (Y/n) sat down on the little girls bed, and spoke to her, showing the girl her leg, and pointing at Arthur, the smile on the child's face growing wider as (Y/n) spoke.
As Arthur's performance finished, and (Y/n) landed back on his shoulder, he couldn't help but let his curiosity get the better of him, as (Y/n) waved at the little girl, as they left the ward. "(Y/n), how was it only that one girl could see you, and what were you telling her?" Arthur asked, becoming slightly confused as (Y/n) began to giggle.
"Arthur, you're funny. Only special people, or those that truly believe, can see fairy folk." (Y/n) hummed happily, as she held onto the curls of green hair sprouting from Arthur's wig.
"And Jessica said that she was sick, so I showed her my leg, and said that you were looking after me, and that you could look after her too, because you are the best." (Y/n) said innocently, as Arthur felt as sense of pride flow over him that (Y/n) would think so highly of a simple clown like him.
>>----------------------------------<<
As the days passed, the imp and her giant became closer; every day Arthur would show her the city or take her to work, making sure that (Y/n) was protected from the prying eyes of everyone but Gary; as night fell (Y/n) would sit happily listening to Arthur talk, or would sit, perched on his lap, as she and Arthur watched the people inside the TV, and as sleep called them to bed, (Y/n) would curl up on Arthur's chest falling asleep to the calm thump of his heart.
Arthur was beginning to grow dismayed as every day that passed (Y/n) got better, and he knew that sooner or later he would have to return his little lady back to her garden. He didn't like the idea of leaving her there all alone, leaving her again in a life of solitude, and he had tried to think of any way to get her to remain with him, but he knew that she didn't belong in his world, that sooner or later others would find out about her, and that she may be hurt; but that didn't mean that he didn't wish that she could remain with him. He had to admit that he had grown to love the sweet little creature, even though they had only known one another for a matter of days he found himself wishing that she was real and that she could be his.
"What is it little one?" Arthur asked, as (Y/n) let out a huge sigh as she looked out of the window and into the starry night sky.
"You'll be taking me back to my garden tomorrow; my leg is better, and I should be back there, but I don't want to go, I want to stay here with you." (Y/n) said, fluttering over and taking a seat on his lap.
"I love my garden, and the animals; but I like the apartment and the city, I like listening to Gary's stories, and I like sleeping with you, if I go back to the garden I will miss it all." (Y/n) lamented, as she curled up into a ball, Arthur brushing her hair softly with his finger.
Arthur tried to think of something to say, something that would ease her mind, assure her that all would be well, but there was nothing; all he could do was show her he cared until the two had to part.
As Arthur lay in his bed, he looked out of the window, the giant moon seeming to send its bright rays down onto the slumbering creature on his chest; he didn't want tomorrow to come, he didn't want to lose the special little woman that he had found, and he found himself doing something that he hadn't done since he was a child. Tightly screwing up his eyes, he made a wish; a pure, sweet, simple wish that tomorrow would bring something other than losing his little lady.
>>------------------------------<<
As Arthur tightly scrunched his eyes, the first rays of the new morning sun shining harshly through the window, and the usual noises from the street below, forcing him to wake, he couldn't help but moan. Despite all the wishing and praying he had done the night before, the new day had come, and the inevitable was facing him.
As he moved slightly, he felt a heavy weight, as what felt like an arm wrapped itself tightly around his midsection. As his eyes flew open, he was shocked beyond words to see (Y/n), not his tiny little lady (Y/n), but a full grown woman, snuggled closely to his side, her warm body enveloping his. There was part of him that was overjoyed, overjoyed that she might stay with him; but another part was afraid of what (Y/n) would think and do when she woke.
"(Y/n)." Arthur said hesitantly, trying not to make the situation too obvious, too soon.
"Good morning giant, can we.........." Before (Y/n) could finish her sentence, she opened her eyes, coming face to face with Arthur, her eyes widening as she looked at him and then down at her hands. With a squeal, she fell from the bed, landing on her bottom with a thump, her hands reaching around, frantically looking for the wings that once sprouted from her back.
"I'm....... I'm so sorry (Y/n), this is all my fault, I shouldn't have wished, I shouldn't have prayed that you could stay with me, I have ruined everything for you." Arthur said, falling down by (Y/n)'s side and looking onto her shocked face.
"You........you wished for me to be like this? You wished that I could stay with you?" (Y/n) asked, a small smile coming to her face as she looked at the apologetic looking Arthur.
"Yes, but I didn't know that this would happen, I.........." Suddenly Arthur found himself flat on his back, as (Y/n) placed little butterfly kisses to his face.
"Thank you, thank you, thank you." (Y/n) cooed, as she held on to him tight.
"Can I stay here now; can I stay with you?" (Y/n) asked excitedly, as Arthur finally began to smile.
"I could think of nothing I would like better than for you to stay with me (Y/n), and at least now I can do this." Arthur said, summoning all his courage, and taking her face in hands, kissing her softly.
As the two parted, (Y/n) looked into Arthur's eyes, and the pair couldn't help but smile. No matter how big she had got, to Arthur, (Y/n) would always be his imp, and to (Y/n), Arthur would always be her giant.
