Special Agent - Part 8
"Good afternoon Agent (Y/n)." A happy voice said, greeting her as she came up to the guard's cage to hand in her gun and badge.
"Jack, what are you doing here?" (Y/n) said, smiling as she signed the visitors' book.
"Just my turn on the roster I'm afraid, it's nice to see you back. It's a shame what happened to Doctor Jackson isn't it?" Jack said, moving his head slightly indicating to the other guards in the room.
(Y/n) gulped, as she scanned Jack's slightly concerned looking face; growing wide eyed as she finally realised that Jack was how Joker had got his message out.
"Yeah, it was such a shock; terrible way to go." (Y/n) said, smiling slightly as she gripped the older man's hand momentarily, feeling terrible that he had been dragged into this whole terrible episode, and knowing that it wasn't just Joker that she had to protect, but also her guardian angel.
"I'll let the guards upstairs know that you are on your way up." Jack told her, nodding a little as (Y/n) made her way to the elevator.
As she made her way to where her interviews were normally held, a face she didn't want to see again suddenly appeared from around the corner, barring her way to the room.
"Ah Jesus, what the fuck do you want?" (Y/n) groaned as Detective Green stood in front of her, his arms crossed.
"I don't agree with you being able to talk to that freak." Green said, trying to look intimidating.
"I don't give a shit whether you agree with it or not, it has absolutely nothing to do with you; this is between Arkham and the FBI. Now, if you don't mind, I would like to get past." (Y/n) said, moving to walk by, but stopping as Green reached his arm out to completely fill the corridor.
"I don't care what you or Murray thinks, I know Fleck was involved in that murder somehow, and I am going to prove it." Green growled, as (Y/n) began to laugh.
"If I didn't know better, I would say that you have a crush on Arthur, because you are completely obsessed." (Y/n) mocked, laughing all the more as Green grew red in the face.
"If you think that he is involved then put your money where your mouth is and prove it; don't come in here thinking that you can stand there and intimidate me, because I assure you that it won't work. I have sat across from some of the most dangerous and sadistic men that this country has to offer, and if I'm not intimidated by a man that horrifically murdered over 40 women, then I'm definitely not intimidated by this pathetic attempt at machismo posturing. Now, I am going to promise you two things, Detective Green; firstly, if you continue to bother me, I will ensure that I inform your superiors that you are hindering me in the course of my work, and that your continued appearance and intimidating tactics are verging on harassment. Secondly, I am going to advice Arthur to procure the services of a lawyer, and I will provide them with a sworn affidavit that will say that you are fixated on Arthur Fleck, and that despite any and all evidence, you continue to focus all your attention on a person that was locked up in one of the most secure buildings in Gotham at the time of the victims death." (Y/n) said, coming up to Green so that the pair were standing face to face.
"Now get out of my way, or I promise you, you'll be singing soprano." (Y/n) told Green, as the man finally moved out of the way so that she could thankfully meet the guard that was waiting to unlock the door to the room where Arthur was waiting.
"Well don't you look beautiful darling." Joker said, smiling as (Y/n) sat down on the chair across from him.
"I think you should threaten Detective Green more often, it brings a certain twinkle to those glorious eyes of yours." Joker chuckled, as (Y/n) shook her head, smiling as she got her files out of her bag.
"I especially like to part where you threatened to neuter him yesterday, I think I would pay money to see that." Joker told her, taking in a deep gulp of smoke, as (Y/n) leant back on her chair.
"I've dealt with guys like Green plenty of times before. I'd say he grew up in a household with a domineering father, probably ex-military; Green joined the force to not only get a feeling of power that he probably never had growing up, but also to make dear old dad proud, which I doubt he ever did. I'd say he's divorced, marriage was rocky, especially at the end; and she probably took him to the cleaners, and I would put money on it that she is happily remarried, whereas he lives in some roach infested apartment eating cans of cold beans in his underwear. I should imagine that his kids never talk to him, and he drinks and smokes waaaaaaay too much. I think he's pissed at the fact he's not really achieved as much as he thought he would by this time in his life, I bet that he thought he'd be chief of police by now; I think he also gets jealous of people that he views as having done better than him, but are less deserving of their position. I'd also say that his obsession with you comes with the fact that you achieved what you did by doing "wrong" whereas he has always tried to do right and has achieved nothing, and he doesn't think that's fair. Well it's that or he's got a tiny dick and can't get it up." (Y/n) said, smiling at a clapping Joker.
"Darling, you are quite perceptive. I was impressed when you seemed to be able to read me like a book, but to read Green so well, even after only the few times you have met, is quite remarkable. Now I want you to give me your thoughts on someone else." Joker said, smiling as he leant forward as close to (Y/n) as he possibly could get.
"The point in me coming here is to ask you questions, not the other way around." (Y/n) told Joker, as she leaned forward herself, so that the two were only a breath apart.
"Quid pro quo darling, quid pro quo." Joker said, moving so that his hands were gripping hers, their noses almost touched.
"But I haven't asked you any questions yet." (Y/n) said, shaking slightly as Joker licked his lips.
"Ah, but you asked me questions yesterday, and I answered all of them, didn't I?" Joker asked, smiling as (Y/n) simply nodded.
"Well then love, I want you to tell me your thoughts on the person that killed our dear Doctor Jackson." Joker said, watching as (Y/n) let out an exasperated sigh and leant back, pulling her hands away from his.
"You really want to go there?" (Y/n) asked, not sure whether Joker wanted to hear her real thoughts, or whether he wanted her opinion on his unspoken confession.
"Tell me." Joker seemed to growl, taking back her hands, and squeezing them tight.
"Alright! I think that two people were involved in the killing of the doctor; given what I know now of his reputation, I would suggest that a female was initially used to lure Jackson back to his home with promises of sexual favours. At some point she was able to grant access to her male accomplice without the doctor knowing, and it was at this point, or soon after, that the crime was committed. The crime was sloppy and brutal, and I think the man that held the blade wanted to impress the one that was actually behind the crime, the mastermind." (Y/n) began, as she and Joker stared into one another's eyes, a strange unspoken battle for dominance ensuing, (Y/n) fighting hard to not show any weakness.
"A mastermind?" Joker asked, smirking as he felt (Y/n)'s fingers tighten around his hand.
"Yes, a mastermind. The man that really wanted the death of the doctor; the man who felt the doctor had insulted him, had harmed someone that he is becoming to believe he cares for, someone that he believes cares for him. But if I could speak to the mastermind, I would give him a word of advice." (Y/n) said, shuddering as Joker's hand began to gently move up her arm.
"And what advice would that be?" Joker asked quietly, his hand finally reaching up to her cheek, his thumb softly brushing over her cheekbone.
"You see killing someone with a knife, especially the way that doctor Jackson was dispatched, is a very messy crime; and one, if not both of the people present at the time of the doctors death, must have been covered in a large amount of blood; and even in a city like Gotham where no one sees anything, someone will have seen this. There is also the fact that given the large amount of blood, the killers hand is likely to have slid down onto the blade itself, due to losing grip on the handle, cutting the perpetrator as he stabbed Jackson, any forensic scientist worth his salt will find the different blood sooner or later. If I was to give the mastermind any advice, I would tell him to make sure that all his tracks are covered, and the two killers are somewhere that they can't be found." (Y/n) told Joker, as his eyebrows furrowed.
"Are you suggesting that the brains behind the crime have the two killed." He asked, letting out a deep breath as (Y/n) shook her head.
"No, not at all, I would never suggest is that. What I would suggest is that the pair be sent a long way away from Gotham, possibly to a country without an extradition treaty; given a new life, a new identity, under strict instructions that they never return; and given the power that I believe the mastermind has over these people, they would probably do anything he tells them. Green maybe a sack of crap, but he is out for blood, and if he finds the two, the mastermind could find himself in even more trouble than he already is." (Y/n) said, as she nuzzled he cheek into the hand of the Joker that was now cupping her face.
"And what do you think of the mastermind and the woman he had Jackson killed for, how do you think that relationship will progress?" Joker asked, now more sure than ever that (Y/n) was not going to tell anyone what she knew about the crime, and more sure than ever that if she wasn't on the right side of the law, she would make an excellent criminal.
"I think that it is a complicated relationship, given what she is, and what he is it was never going to be easy; but that said, I think the woman cares a great deal about the mastermind, and has done for some time, some may say that her feelings even bordered on love. But there is part of her that is afraid that he doesn't really care that all this is an elaborate ruse to get her to do things she wouldn't normally, that he is using her to achieve his own ends." (Y/n) said, as Joker brushed away the single glistening teardrop that was falling slowly down her cheek.
"And what if the mastermind reassured the woman that his intentions were true? Assured her that from the first moment she sat before him, and spoke as though she could see into his very soul, how she seemed to understand and empathise with what he had done, how she seemed to care for him more than anyone has ever before, from that first moment he had found himself falling for her, and that when he discovered what Jackson had done to her, he wanted to show her how he could protect her, and that despite his current situation, he would always protect her, then what do you think she would say?" Joker asked, as (Y/n) noticed that the cocky twinkle that was usually in his eyes had gone, and had been replaced by something soft, something needy, something desperate to be loved.
"Then I think that she would tell him that she loved him. That she hated the idea of having to leave him when her job was done, and that she had already tried to think of ways so that she could stay, even though they can't be together, and probably never will be able to. She would tell him thank you for what he did, despite everything she believed, and had been taught, she wouldn't be able to believe that someone would do such a thing for her." (Y/n) told him, watching wide eyed as Joker rose to his feet, shuffling closer to her, the leg shackles restricting his movements, as he drew to her side.
(Y/n) stood from her chair, walking backwards until her back hit the wall, as Joker came to stand before her.
"Then if she loves him, why is she walking away from him now?" Joker asked, as he brough his cuffed hands up, his fingers softly combing through her hair.
"Because, when all is said and done, the man she loves is still a killer, and there is still a part of her that fears what he can and will do." (Y/n) said shakily, struggling to swallow the large lump that was forming in her throat.
Joker raised his arms, placing them over her head, and moving them down so that they were around her waist, capturing her between his cuffed hands.
"She has no need to fear, the mastermind would never hurt her. It's true that he has killed, that he is a killer, but with her he is so much more." Joker said, moving so that his lips were hovering over hers.
"You can stop this if you want (Y/n), call out for a guard, have me dragged away, never see me again, go back to Quantico and just move on; but if you love me, then prove it." Joker said, forcing her back against the wall, his body pushed up against hers.
"How?" The question came out barely above a whisper, but Joker heard.
"Kiss me." As the words left his mouth, (Y/n)'s lips were on his, her hands gripping gently onto his hair.
There was something about this kiss, something that (Y/n) had never felt before; she wasn't sure whether she was kissing the poor, sweet, innocent Arthur, the killer clown, or a mixture of the two, but whatever the case was, she didn't care.
Joker melted into the kiss, the feel of her soft lips on his making the butterflies in his stomach flutter uncontrollably. Despite all he was, all he had done, she was still kissing him, putting her life and job on the line to kiss him. He knew then, that somehow, he was now going to have to get out of Arkham, somehow, he was going to get to be with her.
Reluctantly he pulled away, but only far enough so that he could rest his forehead on hers.
"Do you trust me?" Joker asked, smiling as (Y/n) nodded and rubbed her nose against his.
"Then continue to love me, and I will make this work." He told her, chuckling slightly as he heard her protest as he pulled his arms back over her head and shuffled back to his spot at the table.
"Now darling, I believe we still have an interview to get to, I can't have you going back empty handed, can I? We have to show your bosses what a truly gifted agent you are." Joker said, smiling softly as (Y/n) sat back down.
"So, where should we begin today?"
