I need to stop taking my sketchbook places
Lmao I took my sketchbook to the DIA and my family literally had to abandon me because I took too long in each room because I wANTED TO DRAW EVERYTHINg
But I regret nothing
There was this cool choir stall that they had in the first room we went in but I feel like I couldn't really do it justice
Like lOOK AT THAT
Walmart vs Gucci
I was trying to go quick, because I only had 2 hours to get over the whole museum (which I still couldn't do but shhh)
(I tried to write what the thing was and its origin on the side and I hope y'all can read my crap handwriting)
(^^^ that dagger was cool asf but I forgot to get a pic :/)
^^ I forgot to write down what that sword was, but I'm pretty sure it's an African ceremonial sword (I don't know what tribe, sorry)
^^ this mask thing was HUGE, I couldn't really portray it much in the drawing but
It got cut off in the picture but it just keeps going
Also, why do all Medieval mothers in paintings look so angry?? It's a mood.
I was dying fmsndosnekd like look at these
"For what does thine child looketh like an earthworm?" "It is just my style, sire, halt thine criticisms"
I also tried to draw a couple paintings, too, but I felt super self conscious trying to copy a bunch of literal masterpieces while a bunch of fancy people with degrees in classical art swarmed around me in the room
^^ this one is called Judith and her Maidservant with the Head of Holofermes by Artemisia Gentileschi (who was a total boss by the way, look her up). Basically, the story behind the original painting is that General(?) Holofermes conquered Judith's town or something and Judith was having none of that, so she went to the the General's tent, got him giggling drunk, and just fkcing cut off his head. Hnhjandksn I love her so much, we stan a Queen. (That was a super simplified summary of the story, but you get the gist)
I'll probably try to redo it on digital when I get the chance
The original:
Yeah, my redraw doesn't hold a candle to the original, but it's okay
And then I tried to draw The Glade by Julius Stewart but I feel ridiculously self conscious with it sitting in my sketchbook
That's a lot of boob
The original:
Idk how people can paint that good, like I can barely draw decently but to do it that realistically??? With no eraser?? How??
Anyways, I definitely recommend this exercise to any artists who need help/Inspiration, and even if you can't go to a museum or a park, usually the things lying around your room do just fine. Like, that lamp? That tree out your window? That Waluigi amiibo figure sitting on your desk? All fair game.
I'll leave you with part of another painting I saw in the DIA
Apparently Dutch Weddings in the 1800's were lit
