H-403 (Raptor of War)

The picture above is the old design I used for H-403 in Raptor of War, seen in the first (and, later, second) draft. Also: FOR GOD'S SAKE DO NOT JUDGE MY DRAWING SKILLS OFF OF IT, IT IS SUCH AN OLD PICTURE EW! However, for the third and final draft, I decided to draw a small reference-esque picture of the main protagonist:

So, we have a close-up of the mechanical eye and foot, and his organic arm, as well as his head without the cybernetic enhancements.

Raptor of War is a story I've been working on since 2016 (that's when I started the first draft). It is about the use of Genetically Engineered Cybernetic Organisms in war, during a time in which humanity is dying out due to climate change and a resource crisis. It's a planned quadrilogy, and is basically a massive not-so-subtle allegory about animal exploitation, especially focusing on the concept of farming. While the first novel is relatively focused on just the war, the sequels will follow a mass-rebellion kickstarted by the events of the first novel. It essentially analyses and criticises speciesism, and will almost entirely be written from the point of view of the exploited animals. So don't be surprised by their strong views against humanity.

H-403 was originally nicknamed 'Huyse' in the first draft (which means 'hope' in Armenian. Yeah, not very subtle). However, for the second draft, I took out the concept of nicknames as it felt like it came out of nowhere in draft I, and was just an excuse to make it easier to remember who's who (though, ironically, I guess it would make things more difficult.). The third draft brings the nickname concept back (thanks to a reviewer mentioning that it's hard to keep track of names when they're just letters and numbers), though changes it to fit the story in a more natural way. This time, H-403 is called 'Helios'- the Greek God of the Sun. This name actually carries a lot of meaning, considering the fact that one of the most important characters in the planned sequels renames himself to 'Sol' (the Roman God of the Sun).

But yeah, the second draft ended up being over 300 pages long, but with how much is being added to the third draft... I'm honestly not going to be surprised if it goes over 500 pages.

(Draft II was about almost 80,000 words, so there's that as well.)

BONUS: Another old picture I drew for the first draft, which is essentially H-403 modelled after one of the posters for Ghost in the Shell- which, by the way, is a brilliant film/anime that needs to be seen by everyone (UNLESS you are young or sensitive. It's very philosophical, but also contains quite a bit of violence and A LOT of nudity).

(Also, I'm talking about the 1995 OG Ghost in the Shell, not the crappy 2017 Americanised remake. Blech.)
