Asymare, otherwise known as manic or psy, started as a regular old, passive nightmare. However, once he ate the apple, not only did it corrupt him physically but it also corrupted him mentally, and not in a way that would give him the advantage. The apples made him manic, and he began to hallucinate, have panic attacks, and attack himself and others on sight. He is an incredibly unstable person, so the residents of his village called authorities to take nm in, but he was clearly dangerous, so the medics took him into an asylum-type shelter.
However, his brother Dream was the top medic in psychology due to his aura, so he was assigned to nightmare as his main caretaker. Since Nightmare was physically violent, he was assigned to a padded cell and a straight jacket with a turtleneck, since he kept scratching at his neck with the buckles on his sleeves.
Dream felt terrible to see his brother this way, but there wasn't much he could do other than try his hardest to help him recover and leave the shelter.
This caused Nightmare to become very attached to Dream.
