*MAKE-READY THE DELIVERY
1. what is the main advantage of a chain delivery? Drop the copy straight on top of the stack intend of siding across the other sheet and scratching it and good for high speed.
2. what is meant by the term "jogging"? keeping the bundies neat and tidy the jogger move back push a copy together to make them neater.
3. what are the 2 main variables that determine the need to adjust the "sheet release"? if it release paper to fairly can cause the paper scuff. if it late could smash into the stopper speed of the stock + weight of the stock.
4.how does antis set off spray "minimise set off? Is how the operator separates the sheets(with cardboard) and allows the ink time to dry.
5.t he transporter drum takes the printed sheet from the impression cylinder to the delivery pile.
6. what is the purpose of the rear and side guides? Keep the paper centre.
*PLATE CYLINDER
1.the pate and blanket cylinders have a recessed or undercut area. Why is the surface of these cylinders undercut? To let us use different thicknesses of plates and blanket and to help apply pressure.
2. there are two basic kind of manual plate clamp. List each of these and supply an advan and dsadvan of each? Clamp 1: quick action cam adv:fast to use;disadvan:keep clean. Clamp 2: series of bolts adv:strong grip; disadvan:take longer.
3. the prints image requires moving around the cylinder. List 2 method oddoing this? 1front lays, plate cylinder adjustment;2 move plate clamps.
4. what does the term "offset"mean ? transfer the image(ink) from the plate to the stock via a blanket.
5. list another important operation performed by the blanket cylinder? Transfer the image , quality to conform to substrate, plate lasts longer, break impression.
*IMPRESSION
1. 2 main function of imp-cylinder? Provide back pressure, transfer the stock.
2. why do most modern machines have imp-cylinder without bearers ? for easy adjustment of pressure for different thickness of stock.
*INK
1. the amount ofink the reaches the plate is determined by the ink keys and the ink sweep.
2. 3 things ink sys is required to do/ transfer ink to the plate, control the amount, thin the ink out.
3. why do ink sys contain both hard and soft rollers? Can't put the pressure, damage roller.
4what function do the oscillator roller perform? Across , latria or side way, giving the rollwr an even coating of ink.
5. what happens to the film as it passes from roller to roller? Thin out.
*DAMPENING SYS
1. list 3 factor that may affect the amount of solution carried by the fountain roller to the rest of the sys? The speed of rotation or amount of sweep - the level of solution in fountain - the surface condition of the fountain roller - roller setting.
2. 2 adv of conventional dampening sys? Hold water - relatively cheap .
3. 3 disadvan ? dirty - recover - lint of fibred, flute hair - reset due to wear.
4. what is one precaution to follow with "shrink on " dampener cover? Make sure not to cut the shrink on- dampener cover too short ,secure overlap .
5. fountain solution : water 97% - fountain concentrate 3% = gum.
6.what happen too much water : wash out, faded image .
*INK AND WATER. NEVER MIX
1. why is water necessary on a lithographic plate? Regal ink from non image area. How much: min amount.
2. Explain what is mean by the ink and water balance : least amount of water and ink but still getting a good print.
3. how do find the min water lv ? bring down until catch up just start then increase a small amount.
4. how do u know what density to run the ink at? Proof, PMS , previous print, customer/foreman ok, sample, colour standard.
5. how many sheet to get a correct ink and water? 50 to 80 on GTO.
6. what happen if ink and water incorrect? Scumming, catch up, wast out, set off.
*PLATING UP.
1. 4 thing shout be check: plate thickness - condition image and un-image area - plate damage
2. what may cause a plate to buckle? Incorrect technique when fitting or swinging a plate.
3. what condition should the image area be in ? free of gum steak, image complete and as a copy correct plate.
4. what should the back plate check for? Should be clean of every thing
*PLATE CARE
1. gum helps to prevent oxidise of the non-image area.
2.gum attract a water from adhering to the non-image area.
3. another purpose of gumming a lithographic plate is to clean the non-image area.
4. do not leave gum on the image ad it may cause gum blindness
5. gum is only effective when it has been thoroughly buffed.
6. gum Arabic should not be applied to an dry plate.
*MAKE READY FOR PRINT
1. what is the purpose of the make ready book? Is to restrict the use of good stock during press preparation and to save it for the customers job.
2. "setting up"sheet may also be termed waste sheets.
3.name 2 other step in preparing a job tto be printed the must be ok: position+register+colour
4.wast sheet should ideally be the same size thickness and colour of stock as the job to be printed.
5. how many wast sheet should be run before colour ok? 120 sheet.
