Ok small rant coming up so just bear with me.

so I'm taking latin this year (well, I take ASL and Latin bc i got special permission) and a couple people I know irl have asked why.
For example: "Latin is a dead language, so why are you taking it?"
yeah, you don't speak it out loud. You're not just going to go up to someone and have a conversation about your favorite books in ancient Latin. The purpose is being able to read and comprehend it.
I'm sure most of y'all know latin words and root words make up HALF of the English language. 
Learning latin will help you understand the real meaning behind English words.
Not only that, but it helps you build a better vocabulary and excel in other academic classes, especially science and math.
I'm not trashing other language classes offered at school such as Spanish and French, it just really bothers me when people see Latin as a useless language just because it's not spoken anymore.
